I Just Wanted Friends, But My Summons Keep Eating the Bosses (ND)
Chapter 145: Plant on the Throne
Night said nothing and simply shrugged, but this time they didn’t seem to accept such a bland response.
Night assumed because now they saw him as a ’teammate’ they wanted to know more.
Night said blankly, "It is not that I do not want to tell you. Even I do not know."
He didn’t tell them he couldn’t use the System; it was not something everyone needed to know.
Rogan waved his hand tiredly. "Baa...Keep your secrets."
Night’s lips twitched.
I am not lying, Night thought
Anyways Night decided to get down to business. "So where is the location of this City Core?"
Jeffy and Teffy looked at each other and Jeffy nodded. Teffy said, "It is about a hundred kilometers from here, west, but the specialty of this city is its interesting location..."
Night guessed offhandedly, leaning on the chair, "Is it on a mountain?"
What he didn’t expect were the stunned looks he received.
Rogan, who was petting Rik, accidentally pulled a tuft of fur from shock. "How did you KNOW?"
Night leaned forward, raising his eyebrows. "Is it really on a mountain?"
Rogan recovered, giving the monkey an apologetic expression. "I also went to check some time ago. It is on a very big mountain, and hence there is no defensive structure, so it should be relatively easy to claim it."
Night got up and said, "Let us go then..."
Jeffy stared at him and asked, "Now?"
Night nodded. "Yes. Time waits for no one."
It was not him who said it, it was Levi and he believed it.
...
While one clone was preparing to conquer a City Core, the Night who went into the Exchange Store came out with 12,000 Common Grade Mana Crystals. The extra 2,000 were because of the rarity of Epic Grade Mana Crystals.
Suddenly his senses tingled, as his Nightmare Domain picked up many hostile auras.
[Dream] chuckled. "That is what happens when a kid is caught with a treasure."
Night didn’t look scared but amused. "More food," he muttered, causing [Dream] to narrow her eyes.
Night started walking to find a secluded place, which was difficult in this city, especially because of the new influx in population.
Night was not discouraged. He started running when he felt the number of people following him increase each second.
This caused them to stop being discreet and start running behind him in earnest.
Zora sent a telepathic message. "Do you need help?"
It seems he was not the only one who noticed.
Night replied, "No really." He didn’t sense anyone of high strength among them.
Then he asked, "What are the laws in this city for self defense against criminals?"
"_"
Zora was silent for a moment.
"Imprisonment, or they are sent to the dungeon to farm resources," Zora finally answered.
Night asked in annoyance, "No death sentence?"
"_" Zora
"It is a waste of resources when they are worth much more alive," Zora stated.
"To me they are worth more dead..." Night replied.
"_" Zora went silent again.
"Just do not kill too many of them..." Zora warned.
"I will try..." Night promised softly.
...
Somewhere in a hidden alley the Night clone that was being stalked by the Devil stopped.
He was now on the outskirts of the city. This area was filled with buildings, and each building was too close for comfort.
Suddenly the shadows around him darkened and people started climbing out of them.
Since it was an alley the whole place was covered in shadows, meaning he was surrounded by hundreds of people in seconds.
"What powerful stealth..." Zora commented in his mind.
Night replied, "Do you have nothing better to do?"
"_" Zora went quiet again.
He didn’t want to be rude, but he already had a Primordial God and probably other gods watching his life free of cost.
He felt like soon he would qualified to open his own Nightflix and start adding charges.
He didn’t like it, not because he was shy, but because of all the attention he had to be careful how much power he could show.
On second thought, it is better if people knew my true strength. It would save me some trouble... Night thought.
He looked at everyone. Most of them were wearing mundane clothes, while some wore armor and robes.
If he didn’t have his Nightmare Domain he would have mistaken them for normal people, but because of the Domain he could see that all their bodies were covered in strings, and their movements while appearing natural were a little stiff.
"Puppets," Night said softly.
One of them, wearing an old butler uniform, walked closer, bowing and said, "Greetings. I would like to invite you to my master’s abode."
"Who is your master?" Night asked.
The butler replied, "My master is Baron Wispr Noise. My master thinks you are special and has decided to grace you with their presence."
Baron huh? I need to be careful.
Night agreed after some thought.
In response the shadows in the alley became denser and covered him.
He could have resisted if he tried, but he allowed himself to be dragged because the possibility of finding this Devil by himself was very low, and considering even Zora seemed to be unaware of it, it was better to meet it since there was a chance he would meet the Devil itself and not another puppet.
...
Night looked around, only to find the surroundings were pitch black. It was not the kind of darkness that was the absence of light but something else, it was pure darkness.
He heard a voice. "Hehehe... I did not think you would dare to come here yourself."
As the voice echoed, an array activated.
He suddenly found himself frozen in place. As it happened he felt something try to drill into his body from the top of his head.
Suddenly Night had a confused expression on his face. He felt like he was forgetting something.
The voice sounded again laced with amusement. "Ohhh... you have a strong mind for a kid... no matter, I have dealt with worse."
Night found the voice irritating, but he ignored it and tried to remember what he was forgetting...
I came here to do something... What was it?
He heard a thought. What are you talking about? We came here by accident...
Accident? I should protect myself then... Night thought.
Another thought came. We are safe...
Really? then why is it so dark? I should be able to see even if it is dark right?
Then he heard a thought. What do you mean? It is dark. It is perfectly normal for us to not be able to see anything...
Yes, but I am stuck and if I release that ’thing’ I should be able to destroy the sealing array and move.
Another thought formed. What do you mean? We got caught in a sealing array. It is perfectly normal for us to be unable to move.
I guess so. Still why do I feel something tickling my head?
Another thought formed. It does not seem harmful. I think we should let it do what it wants.
Yes... If it is not harmful then I do not see any problem.
Another thought formed. Yes, now we should relax and lower our guard since we are stuck here anyway. We need to save energy for when we see an opportunity to escape.
Yes, energy, it is valuable. We should definitely save it...
As it happened, Baron Wispr stood in front of Night with a crazy smile. She had short pink hair, and she was about the same height as Night.
In Nightmare Castle, the Main Body of Night narrowed his eyes.
While his clone was being played like a flute and was about to be turned into a puppet, none of it affected the other bodies.
He could see everything with Nighmare Domain.
The girl felt familiar...
Her name is Pancy right?
If he remembered correctly, that boy Tony had said her name when he threatened him, the first time he went into the academy.
This girl was looking at Sage at the time and even gave him a sense of danger back then.
Did they make Pancy its puppet or was there never a Pancy to begin with?
I will find out soon anyway. Now though, it is time to experiment. Since the Devil is so close it would not hurt to test some things.
His mind defense was strong since the Devil had barely managed to scratch the surface, and this was after he was not even defending.
It seems Pancy aka Devil Baron Wispr also noticed this and her expression soon turned into one of annoyance.
In response the thing trying to drill into the mind of the clone became ten times stronger.
Night though, At this rate clone’s head will explode.
Knowing he might lose the clone at this rate, Night lowered his mental defence. Since clone carried part of his mind and soul. Losing them would not be life threatening, but it would definitely weaken him.
The something that was drilling into his mind rushed toward his soul and entered his Soul Space the moment the defence was reduced to minimum.
What greeted it on the othersied was a plant sitting on a throne.
Yes, sitting.
The plant leaned against the throne like it was relaxing, while its branches were like arms resting on the armrests, while the roots intertwined like the plant was sitting cross legged.
This was Wispr’s first time seeing a Soul Space like this, but it didn’t fluster her.
Already expecting the worst, Wispr prepared herself, but what happened next made her filled her with so much dread and she wanted to back out.
She didn’t want to do anything with Night.
The plant extended its branches and roots to bound her and she couldn’t do a thing.
In front of the plant she a Demigod felt like a mortal....
