Seeing the expression Night realized he had overdone it, so he quickly withdrew 50 Epic Mana Crystals, leaving 50 out.

The mana density in the store lessened considerably, but he felt even that was too much, so he removed another 40 Mana Crystals, leaving only 10 on the counter.

And no, he didn’t do this because he felt like trying to exchange millions of SC worth of Mana Crystals was too much.

Really...

The employee’s expression in front of him changed from shocked to stunned and then speechless when he saw Night put back the Mana Crystals.

The employee could see the profit disappearing in front of his eyes but didn’t stop him, because even the employee noticed the situation was weird.

More weird was a kid carrying so much wealth like it was small change.

The only thing that made sense was that this was not a child but a high level powerhouse pretending to be a kid.

It was weird but honestly the employee had seen worse and this was mild in comparison.

With a respectful voice the employee said, "Sir, how would you like to proceed with the exchange?"

Night pretended like nothing happened and replied casually, "I want to change it to lesser quality Mana Crystals, preferably Rare, Uncommon or even Common grade Mana Crystals."

The employee requested, "Can we examine the Mana Crystals first before giving the exchange value?"

Night nodded. "Yes, and also cut the transaction fees before telling me the value."

As it was said, what he couldn’t see didn’t exist.

He would pretend transaction fees didn’t exist. At least that would lessen the pain a bit.

...

Night looked at the building in front of him. Above the entrance a huge board hung that displayed the Conquerors Guild written in bold letters.

In the webnovel stories in his memories he had seen Adventurer Guilds, Hunter Guilds, Mercenary Guilds, etc.

The Conquerors Guild was new to him so he found it interesting. Besides, he felt a gaze on him for some time and the feeling grew stronger the more time he spent in this area.

He felt Blade in his Main Body’s hand buzz, like she was telling him he was close, this was the one...

That was quick.

I finally managed to draw its attention

But has the Devil been looking for me all this time?

Why?

Confused yet hopeful he entered the building.

As he got used to the constant stream of memories from Alzebeus, he was starting to like the feeling.

More things to devour meant more memories, and as the legends said: Knowledge is power.

Licking his lips, he didn’t notice his teeth getting sharper nor the slight flush on his cheeks when he thought about his new prey.

But his friends did, and they got worried.

Lucy looked at [Dream] who also had a solemn expression on her face.

"We need to find a solution quickly," [Dream] said. "If he gets really addicted, his personality might change a lot. I don’t know about you guys, but I know it is not normal for a seven year old to behave like this. Maybe if he was older I would not have minded since he can think for himself, but this is too soon."

Lucy agreed. She was a glutton but even she knew if this continued things could go batshit crazy. "But what can we do?"

Lucy had roamed the world when the monsters were still weak.

She had seen all types of people in her search for a partner, so she understood emotions keenly and being addicted to something being one of them.

One thing was common: addiction to anything never ended well.

The Conquerors Guild was not guarded, but a lot of banners and monuments could be seen as he walked up to the building.

The monuments showed a person’s name at the bottom and their accomplishments, while the banners had motivational slogans which suggested their desire to reclaim Earth...

Reclaim Earth?

From whom?

Isn’t Earth already theirs?

Night muttered it out loud. [Blaze] heard it and he immediately felt an itch to give some advice...

"What they want is to rule the planet Earth," [Blaze] said. "It seems in the past it was completely dominated by humans, and these people want to bring those days of glory back."

Night’s steps paused. Now he didn’t know if he wanted to enter the building anymore.

"If they want the planet all to themselves, then where are the others supposed to go?" Night muttered.

It was not that he didn’t understand. Because of Levi’s memories he understood perfectly where they were coming from, but the world had changed. It was no longer just the humans that were intelligent and capable.

Now the only way they could achieve their dream was by purging the other races, and it didn’t sit right with him.

[Blaze] was quiet for some time. "Maybe their goal is a little misplaced. I am guessing what they really want is a safe haven for humans."

Night nodded. Now this was a good reason. Anyway it wouldn’t hurt to take a peek.

The glass door to the building opened by itself. What he didn’t expect to see was the person behind the counter.

It was Rogan, and standing beside him was Jeffy and the other guard.

The hall was empty and only the three people could be seen.

Rogan looked at Night and squinted his eyes as if trying to recall where he had seen a similar figure.

He was still bald but without a cigar.

Beside him, Jeffy and the other guard went as stiff as cardboard as soon as they saw Night.

To the surprise of Rogan and Night, the guard summoned a giant hammer, and Jeffy beside him did the same while moving closer to Rogan to protect him, acting as if they were about to face a great enemy.

"Brat, did you trip and hit your head on the hammer, on the way to Dream City?" Rogan scolded. "Who raises a weapon against a kid?"

A small brown monkey peeked its head out from under the counter. Its eyes widened when it saw Night, as if it recognized him.

As expected, monkeys are smarter than humans, Night thought. No wonder they have stupid dreams about conquering the world...

Night didn’t look worried when he saw both of them ready to attack him at any moment.

"Shut up old man," Jeffy said tensely. "You have relaxed in the city for so long that your survival instinct is even lower than a lab rat."

"I hate to say it but I have to agree with that conclusion," Teffy added. "My best friend, it seems your father has started losing his brain cells along with his hair."

Rogan looked so incensed that he pulled out a cigar wrapper, crumpled it into a ball, and threw it. It hit Jeffy first, then curved and hit the other guy, striking both their heads with perfect accuracy using a single ball.

Cool

Night approved internally.

And there it is, the cigar that was missing, or whatever was left of it...

Jeffy and Teffy didn’t care and ignored him. Both of their eyes remained fixed on Night, especially on the small quantity of Blackish Purple Mist that kept drifting from his clothes.

Their pupils constricted when they noticed how that mist kept devouring the air, ambient mana, space, and even metaphysical concepts like karma, destiny, and fate as it made contact with the surroundings.

Just the thought of it touching them gave them both goosebumps. They both cursed Rogan for tricking them into opening a guild after Dream City refused to accept them as guards.

It was better to stay jobless than deal with shit like this.

The first person to enter the guild was a monster wearing human skin.

Night tilted his head in confusion at their stiff postures and ready to die expressions.

Trying to jog their memory, Night asked, "Jeffy, did you forget me so quickly?"

As he said that, his eyes drifted to the other guard.

For some reason this one gave him a sense of danger, and this was an achievement considering he hadn’t felt this much danger even when he had stood in front of Alzebeus and [Zethethoth].

After his Nightmare Mist became like this and he gained the Dream Aspect, for some reason he felt it was very difficult to die even if he wanted to kill himself.

Maybe it is the doing of [Dream] or it could also be [Blaze]. They must have done something so that I wouldn’t die accidentally, he guessed.

As soon as Jeffy heard the boy’s familiar way of addressing him, Jeffy tried extremely hard to remember if he had ever been stupid enough to interact with a monster like this, but he drew a blank.

Beside him Teffy shifted slightly. "Are you that kid we saw about two months ago outside Desert City?"

Jeffy’s eyes widened as he finally remembered too. But he was shocked because the feeling Night gave him now and in their first meeting was so different.

At that time Night looked like a harmless deer exploring the world for the first time. But now he looked like someone who had stared at Death itself and told it to get lost.

The intelligence in his eyes was clear for them to see.

Jeffy could only ask in shock, "What happened!?"

Hadn’t he asked the kid to go to his father and live there? So that he could live in peace...

Why did it look like instead he had been roaming the wilds and the Death Zones...
