I Dumped My Mate—Now Every Beast King Wants Me
Chapter 164: The Bear Clan Leader’s Son, Brown
That day, another severely injured male arrived at the Fuzu Tribe. No matter how the tribe’s doctor treated the male’s wounds, the bleeding just wouldn’t stop.
Left with no other choice, they notified Ophelia. Klein, who happened to be by her side at the time, insisted on accompanying her after hearing the news. He had only heard that the Fuzu Tribe’s wound medicine was incredibly effective, but he had never seen it with his own eyes.
When Ophelia arrived at the treatment room on the outskirts of the Fuzu Tribe, a burly male was standing at the door, constantly peering out. The moment he caught sight of Ophelia, he hurriedly rushed over to meet her.
“Ophelia, you’re finally here!”
“Bear Clan Leader?” Ophelia was somewhat surprised to see the middle-aged male.
“The one injured this time is my son. His bleeding won’t stop. Ophelia, you must find a way to save him!” The Bear Clan Leader’s eyes were red-rimmed, and his hands were covered in blood.
“Don’t worry, let me assess the situation first,” Ophelia said, not giving an absolute guarantee. After all, no matter how effective her antiseptic medicine was, it couldn’t bring the dead back to life or regrow flesh on bare bones.
“Ophelia, I’m not trying to force you. I just want to beg you to do your best to save him.” As they spoke, the two of them entered the treatment room.
The moment they stepped inside, a thick stench of blood assailed their noses. Klein frowned slightly as he looked at the blood-soaked male lying on the wooden bed.
“To think he’s injured this severely,” he remarked. In his mind, Klein concluded that this male wasn’t going to survive.
Ophelia stepped forward to examine the patient, finding the male’s features somewhat familiar. “Bear Clan Leader, who is he?”
“He is my son, Brown.”
Hearing the name, Ophelia remembered. Brown? He was the Bear Clan male who had gone so far as to cut in line for the sake of his family. To think he was actually the son of the Bear Clan Leader.
“Clan Leader, I’ve already used two bottles of antiseptic medicine and Hemostatic Medicine, but his bleeding still hasn’t stopped. I’m afraid…” The clan doctor glanced at the Bear Clan Leader standing nearby, unable to bring himself to finish the sentence.
The Bear Clan Leader’s face was ashen, but he gritted his teeth and said, “Ophelia, go ahead and treat him boldly. No matter the outcome, I am willing to accept it.”
Ophelia nodded. She was just about to step forward to check on Brown’s condition when Klein stopped her. He shook his head at her, his eyes signaling for her not to meddle. If someone died in her hands, it would likely cause a lot of trouble.
“Don’t worry, it’s fine,” Ophelia reassured him softly.
Seeing her determination, Klein could only stand guard beside her to prevent the Bear Clan Leader from losing his temper and doing something to hurt her in a fit of agitation.
Ophelia lifted the Beast Skin Gauze covering Brown to examine the wound on his chest. There was a deep claw mark across his muscular chest, and the flesh at the wound was hanging on by a mere thread of skin.
Ophelia carefully moved the dangling piece of flesh aside. But even though she kept her movements as gentle as possible, Brown still felt the pain.
Stimulated by the pain, Brown opened his eyes. Through his blurred and hazy vision, he made out a slender figure. “O-Ophelia.”
“It’s me,” Ophelia responded.
“I’m beyond saving. There’s no need to waste the antiseptic medicine on me.” Brown’s face was deathly pale, and his voice was laced with utter weakness.
Hearing his son speak like this, a layer of mist clouded the Bear Clan Leader’s weather-beaten eyes.
Seeing that Brown had lost the will to live, Ophelia realized this was a grave problem. A person who had given up on themselves and lost the will to live couldn’t be saved, even with spiritual pills.
She applied a bit more pressure with her hands and said in a deep voice, “Have you forgotten that you still owe me a Yellow Crystal Stone? Do you want to just die like this to get out of paying your debt?”
Seeing that Ophelia had misunderstood him, Brown hurriedly shook his head. “No, I don’t.” His sudden movement tugged at his wound, causing even more blood to flow out.
The Bear Clan Leader’s heart ached at the sight. He wanted to say something but was silenced by a sharp glare from Klein.
Klein understood Ophelia’s temperament and knew she wasn’t someone who haggled over every little thing. There was definitely a purpose behind her words.
“Since you don’t intend to deny your debt, then you better accept the treatment obediently. Get well soon so you can return the Crystal Stone to me.”
Brown agreed in a hoarse, frail voice before heavily slipping back into unconsciousness.
The clan doctor hastily stepped forward to check on him. “He’s just passed out. But if we still can’t stop the bleeding, he’ll truly be in danger.”
Ophelia leaned over to inspect Brown’s wound. The gash was very deep, and she could faintly see tiny fragments of crushed stone embedded inside. “There are stones inside his wound. That’s why he hasn’t stopped bleeding.”
“Then what should we do now?” the clan doctor asked.
“We need to pick out the crushed stones from his wound right now. Once we apply the Hemostatic Medicine and antiseptic medicine, the bleeding will stop.”
The clan doctor’s expression turned solemn.
“Then hurry up and pick them out!” the Bear Clan Leader urged anxiously, seeing that neither Ophelia nor the clan doctor was making a move.
Klein’s voice was as cold as frost. “Do you want to torture him to death with the pain?”
“Er…” The Bear Clan Leader finally realized the problem. “Ophelia, do you have any medicine that can make him feel no pain?”
Ophelia shook her head. She thought to herself that she did have some, but she had gone all-in with her Crystal Stones earlier to upgrade her farm space. Therefore, she didn’t have enough Crystal Stones left to buy fertilizer acceleration packs to quickly ripen the herbs.
Seeing Ophelia shake her head, the Bear Clan Leader’s face turned ashen. He staggered back, only steadying himself by leaning heavily against the wooden table beside him.
“Clan Leader Ophelia, I have a Mama Fruit here. I wonder if it can be used?” the clan doctor offered.
“A Mama Fruit?” She had never heard of such a fruit.
“Once consumed, this fruit will cause a person to pass out. If the juice is applied directly to the body, that area will lose all sensation for an entire day,” the clan doctor explained. “I was thinking, if we apply the juice of the Mama Fruit to Brown’s wound, he won’t feel any pain when we pick out the crushed stones.”
“Will this fruit worsen Brown’s injuries?” The Bear Clan Leader had never heard of the Mama Fruit either, and he was quite worried.
Klein stared at Brown’s paper-white lips, his voice icy and devoid of any warmth. “Right now, you only have two choices.
“Either use the Mama Fruit to treat him, and he might still have a chance of survival.
“Or give up on the treatment and take him away, which means certain death.
“Make your choice.”
Ophelia’s brows were tightly knitted. She hadn’t heard of the Mama Fruit either. She wasn’t sure if it would negatively affect Brown’s wound or if it had any side effects.
The Bear Clan Leader pursed his lips. Looking at his son, whose complexion was only growing worse, he thought it over repeatedly before making a decision. “Let’s try it.”
“Alright, I’ll go prepare the fruit right away,” the clan doctor said.
This was the first time the fruit was being used on a patient, so he was extremely cautious when extracting the juice. An entire fruit yielded only about a bottle cap’s worth of liquid.
Ophelia watched as the clan doctor applied the juice to Brown’s wound. “How long does it take for this fruit’s medicinal properties to take effect?”
The clan doctor shook his head. “I’ve never timed it carefully.”
Left with no other choice, everyone could only wait in silence.
About ten minutes later, Ophelia reached out and pressed the skin around Brown’s wound. At the slight touch, Brown’s brows furrowed.
“The medicine hasn’t taken effect yet. Let’s wait a bit and try again.”
Another ten minutes passed, and Ophelia touched Brown’s wound once more. This time, he didn’t react at all. Just to be safe, Ophelia applied a bit more pressure. Brown still showed no reaction.
“It worked,” the clan doctor said in pleasant surprise. “I just silently counted over a thousand numbers in my head.
“This should be how long it takes for the Mama Fruit to take effect.”
