Chapter 401: Chapter 376: An Explanation Must Be Given?

Seeing a situation brewing in the game, Lu Feng turned to Baguda and asked, "Are people still coming over from there?"

Baguda replied immediately, "After the first round of wages was paid, another wave of people started making their way over. But this time, Myanmar is bound to have noticed."

"After all, it’s too many people. No matter how chaotic things are over there or how unmanageable the situation gets, they can’t possibly ignore this, can they?"

"Right," Lu Feng instructed Baguda. "Have Dali and Hongxi get ready. If anything happens, they need to be prepared to respond."

In truth, it wasn’t that the Myanmar officials were ignoring it or failing to notice. It was because Xiaozhi was running interference.

The higher-ups could only see information about their rivals’ schemes against them; any reports about the disappearing populace were completely hidden from view.

It was precisely because of Xiaozhi that the Xuanfeng Alliance had managed to attract so many people from Myanmar over the past month.

"Understood, Your Excellency the Governor. I’ll contact them as soon as I get back."

"Go on, attend to your duties."

Baguda nodded and left Wind Manor.

Lu Feng went upstairs, found a room, and with a single thought, entered the game.

He appeared in the main hall of the East Suburb Fortress and saw Lin Jiao.

"Boss, you’re finally here! We have a situation." Lin Jiao saw him and immediately began her report. "The zombies that vanished are starting to reappear. They’re pouring out of a mountain forest. And when they do, their speed and strength are greater than before. Many have even evolved into mutant zombies. The Flame Emperor wants to invite you to investigate with him."

"I see." Lu Feng nodded slightly. ’This is it, the Hexagonal Beast crisis. The game world is about to be hit by the great cataclysm from the lore.’

Lu Feng accepted the Flame Emperor’s invitation. He sent a messenger to the City East Alliance with his reply, and they arranged to meet at a location in Celestial Sea City near the mountain forest.

When Lu Feng saw the Flame Emperor again, he thought the man looked more haggard than before. ’He must be feeling the pressure of this crisis.’

The moment the Flame Emperor saw Lu Feng, he got straight to the point. "Lu Feng, the survivors could be in big trouble this time. At this rate, the zombies are going to form a tide."

Lu Feng looked toward the mountain forest. Sure enough, he could see more and more zombies pouring out.

Mutant zombies were scattered among them, a common sight. The truly horrifying ones were the exceptionally massive zombies.

"Something has to be controlling them from behind the scenes, or it wouldn’t have reached this point." The Flame Emperor’s expression grew more grave as he spoke. "And it’s not just the zombies. I’ve noticed the Mutant Beasts seem to be gathering as well."

"Lu Feng, if something is truly controlling these zombies, it will definitely attack our City East Alliance. The City East Alliance will be their primary target."

"Ninety percent of the survivors in Celestial Sea City are gathered there. But if the entity controlling these zombies is intelligent, it will certainly target the East Suburb Fortress too."

"So, Lu Feng, I’m leaving the East Suburb Fortress in your hands. I’m counting on you to secure our flank so I don’t have to worry."

Lu Feng kept his eyes on the zombies in the distance. He felt something was off. ’These massive, bloated zombies... they shouldn’t be appearing at this stage.’

They were only supposed to show up after the City East Alliance in Celestial Sea City fractured into warring factions. These zombies were incredibly strong, and their charges were devastating.

Lu Feng didn’t say much more to the Flame Emperor before they parted ways. As for his request—Lu Feng didn’t need to be told. He would defend the East Suburb Fortress and solidify his control. ’Soon enough,’ he thought, ’everyone will have to listen to me. The alternative is starvation.’

Still, the zombie horde was deviating from what the background lore predicted. He felt he needed to make more thorough preparations.

’The single small nuclear warhead in my inventory might not be enough.’

So, upon returning to the East Suburb Fortress, he exited the game world with a single thought.

Back at Wind Manor, he made a call and summoned Feisen.

He hadn’t seen the man in a long time. Feisen was doing an excellent job as Minister of Foreign Affairs, having established friendly relations with nearly every surrounding faction. In the future, when the seaport fully opened, those connections would contribute to its economic prosperity.

But Lu Feng hadn’t forgotten Feisen’s original profession: arms dealer. He was the one who had helped procure the two small nuclear warheads before.

Now, he needed Feisen to get him two more. If not nuclear, they had to be weapons of comparable power.

Feisen arrived quickly. He was clearly living a more comfortable life now, especially with the Xuanfeng Alliance’s growing success.

Seeing Lu Feng, he immediately bowed respectfully. "Your Excellency the Governor, for what reason have you summoned me?"

He kept his head lowered, not daring to meet Lu Feng’s gaze, as a sign of respect.

He knew all too well how terrifying this man was. It was still hard to believe that Lu Feng had built such a massive power base from the meager beginnings of Dalat Town.

’To think, he defeated me, seized my power, and took my freedom...’ he mused. ’Perhaps it was my good fortune.’

Lu Feng got straight to the point. "Feisen, I need you to do something for me. I need two more small nuclear weapons, preferably like the last ones. If you can’t get those, any weapons of comparable power will do."

"What?" Feisen was stunned.

He never expected His Excellency the Governor to summon him for something like this.

’But those things aren’t easy to get ahold of.’

But since the Governor had given the order, he had no choice but to give it his all.

"Your Excellency the Governor, I will do my utmost." Feisen nodded in acceptance.

...

In Myanmar, a month had passed, and the chaos had finally begun to subside.

The reason was simple: one man named Duodoli.

Myanmar had previously been ruled by three powerful figures. In first place was Cai Caida, and in third was Sayer.

Duodoli was ranked second.

In reality, however, Duodoli didn’t command much prestige. Or rather, he had no desire to get involved in the power struggle between Sayer and Cai Caida. He only wanted to make the land he so deeply loved a better place; he would have helped whichever of them won.

But reality defied his expectations. Both Cai Caida and Sayer had died on the road to Boya.

He suspected it had something to do with the Xuanfeng Alliance.

But before he could address the matter, rebellion erupted within Myanmar, plunging the nation into chaos.

Fortunately, through skillful maneuvering, he peacefully resolved the conflict between the two main factions and secured control of their soldiers. Then, with the support of the merchants, he quelled several other pockets of rebellion.

Only then did he have time to assess the rebellion’s impact on the populace.

But when he received the report, he was dumbfounded.

People had fled from many areas. Some towns had lost more than half their population, and in some rural villages, everyone was gone.

’Could a rebellion cause this much harm?’

A secretary rushed in. "Mr. Duodoli, we’ve finished the tally! Nearly one-seventh of our population is missing. And they’re all from cities, towns, and villages near the border."

"How can this be?" Duodoli asked with a frown. "Have you found out where they’ve gone?"

The secretary spoke quickly, "We’ve found out. They went to the Xuanfeng Alliance. Over the past month, countless people have fled there. It seems someone has been promoting online how wonderful the Xuanfeng Alliance is, how easy it is to find a job, and how high the wages are."

"Perhaps because of that, when people compared it to the current situation in Myanmar, they chose to flee to the Xuanfeng Alliance."

"And people are still continuously slipping across the border, heading for the Xuanfeng Alliance."

"Damn it." Duodoli couldn’t stay seated after hearing the news. He shot to his feet and ordered, "We’re going to the border. We can’t let any more people leave! And this is definitely the Xuanfeng Alliance’s doing. They will have to answer for this."
