I Came to Divorce Him—His Whole Regiment Adopted Me
Chapter 69: Forbidden
Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Forbidden
Lu Zhengchuan naturally hoped for a transfer to the Capital Military District, but it required military achievements. It wasn’t something he could get just by wanting it.
But now, thanks to Su Wan and with the support of his superiors, the opportunity was clearly arriving much sooner than he had anticipated.
Lu Zhengchuan was in a hurry to get home.
On his way, he passed the service cooperative and saw they were selling dried sweet potatoes and dried tofu, so he went over and bought some.
"Wanwan..."
When Lu Zhengchuan got home, he first went into the kitchen to cook a pot of millet porridge.
Seeing it was getting late, he went to the bedroom to wake Su Wan.
Su Wan had slept very comfortably. When Lu Zhengchuan woke her, she was still a little groggy.
Hearing the nickname, she assumed it was someone else from the compound calling her. Her voice softened involuntarily, taking on a cute, wheedling tone. "Hm? What’s wrong? Do you need me for something?"
"You’ve been sleeping for a long time. It’s time to get up for dinner." Lu Zhengchuan’s voice couldn’t help but soften as well. "I made millet porridge and also bought some dried sweet potatoes and dried tofu."
"Dried tofu? The really fragrant, firm kind? I haven’t had that in ages." Su Wan rubbed her eyes and slowly sat up.
Her baby bump was starting to show now, and her movements were no longer as nimble as before.
Lu Zhengchuan couldn’t resist. He reached out, put an arm around her waist and under her arm, and helped her sit up properly.
"Yes. I know you’ve loved it since you were a child. I saw it just now and bought some."
"The dried sweet potatoes are just like the ones they make back in the village. You should find the taste familiar. They might have even been shipped from Yang Province."
Su Wan’s interest was piqued. She sat on the edge of the bed, getting ready to put on her shoes and get up.
But as she was putting on her shoes, she suddenly came to her senses.
"...Why did you suddenly change how you address me?" Su Wan turned to look at him suspiciously, her mind clearing considerably.
Lu Zhengchuan’s expression didn’t change. He even knelt to help her with her shoes. "Everyone else calls you that. I can too."
It was a rather assertive thing to say.
Su Wan was speechless for a moment. Finally, she managed a single word. "...Fine."
But when Lu Zhengchuan finished putting on her shoes, helped her into the main room, and even pulled out a stool for her, this meticulous care made Su Wan very uncomfortable.
"Lu Zhengchuan, what’s wrong with you? Did something happen today?"
His attitude was making Su Wan a little uneasy.
Seeing her defensive posture, Lu Zhengchuan finally, belatedly, realized something was off. "Wanwan, nothing happened today. I just suddenly realized that I haven’t been good enough to you."
"We’re husband and wife. It’s only right that I treat you well."
Su Wan shook her head. Lu Zhengchuan had said and done things like this before.
But his attitude today was completely different.
’If she had to put her finger on it, it felt like he had become much more intimate with her.’
’It was an emotional shift.’
"...Could it be because I saved you?" Su Wan racked her brain and came up with this as a possible reason.
The smile on Lu Zhengchuan’s face faded slightly. He retorted, "Does there have to be a reason for me to be good to you? Am I really that opportunistic in your eyes?"
Su Wan froze, not understanding why he had suddenly gotten angry.
"I was just asking casually." Su Wan, wanting to keep the peace, said placatingly.
"...Mm, but I did realize that our relationship has been too distant. That’s my fault, and I want to fix it." Lu Zhengchuan’s gaze was burning as he looked at her.
His stare made her cheeks burn, but her eyes were bright. "How do you plan to fix it?"
Lu Zhengchuan reached his hand out to her.
Su Wan was puzzled. "Hm?"
A towel appeared in his hand, and he used it to wipe Su Wan’s hands clean.
Su Wan just watched as he took care of her.
"Eat first." Lu Zhengchuan placed the bowl and chopsticks in front of her.
Su Wan didn’t understand what was going on, but she still picked up the spoon and slowly took a sip of the millet porridge.
With that first sip, she tasted something sweet.
"...What did you put in it?"
"Honey." As Lu Zhengchuan spoke, he had already picked all the meat from the crucian carp in the soup and placed it in front of Su Wan.
Su Wan saw that the fish meat in the small dish was completely free of bones.
She couldn’t figure out what Lu Zhengchuan was up to, so she decided to just go with the flow.
After dinner, it wasn’t quite dark yet.
Zhang Yun returned just then.
"Cousin, Sister-in-law."
"Cousin? Don’t move, I’ll do the dishes." Zhang Yun immediately rushed forward to take the bowls and chopsticks from Lu Zhengchuan’s hands.
Lu Zhengchuan didn’t let her, instead shooting her a look. "You’re back now? Is the matter with Zheng Zhizhi settled?"
"Cousin, it’s settled!" Zhang Yun’s eyes lit up. She waved her arms excitedly, ready to tell him in great detail how it was all resolved.
Lu Zhengchuan held up a hand to stop her. "You should be telling your sister-in-law. Why are you telling me all this? Don’t you have any sense?"
Zhang Yun was stunned by his words. ’My cousin is being so aggressive,’ she thought. She nodded subconsciously. "You’re right, Cousin. I’ll go tell Sister-in-law right now."
With a toss of her head, Zhang Yun put the thought of Lu Zhengchuan’s fierceness out of her mind.
She turned and ran into the main room, where Su Wan was sitting at the dining table, covering the leftovers with a food cover to keep insects away.
"Sister-in-law, let me tell you, Zheng Zhizhi and Gao Qiang have both been dealt with."
Seeing her excitement, Su Wan knew it must be good news.
Her curiosity was immediately piqued. "How were they dealt with?"
Zhang Yun pulled up a stool and sat down next to her. "Zheng Zhizhi is banned from the military compound."
"Huh?" Su Wan really hadn’t expected that would be her punishment.
"Why?"
"Because the leadership said that Zheng Zhizhi has made mistakes several times, and this time she targeted a pregnant woman. Her behavior was malicious. So, besides a verbal reprimand, and since she’s not a family member of any soldier in the camp, she’s naturally not allowed back in." Zhang Yun was overjoyed as she explained this. "It’s her own fault for not being married to Liu Lang. That means she doesn’t count as an officer’s dependant, so banning her is perfectly within the rules."
"This is great. Now you don’t have to worry about Zheng Zhizhi getting close to you anymore, Sister-in-law." Zhang Yun patted her chest, the worry she’d been holding in finally dissipating.
After all, she never would have thought Zheng Zhizhi was so crazy that she’d intentionally fall to try and knock her sister-in-law over.
’How did I never realize how cruel she was before?’
"Then with Liu Lang injured, it’s quite a coincidence that there’s no one to take care of him now."
Zhang Yun snorted at that. "If there’s no one to take care of him, so be it. As long as Zheng Zhizhi can’t get on the base, I’m relieved."
"That Liu Lang is no good either. If it weren’t for him, how could Zheng Zhizhi have gotten in?"
Hearing this, Su Wan touched her pocket. "Liu Lang compensated me with one hundred yuan."
"...For Zheng Zhizhi pushing me."
When Zhang Yun saw the money, her eyes lit up and her voice was filled with shock. "One hundred yuan! That’s so much!"
"...In that case, Sister-in-law, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise for you!" Seeing the money, Zhang Yun instantly changed her tune.
Su Wan was speechless. If she didn’t know that Zhang Yun was a bit of an airhead, she would have suspected her of not caring about her safety at all.
"Why did Gao Qiang target me?"
