I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 88: Fire Them All
Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Fire Them All
Evelyn Grant always acted like an outsider.
It felt like there was always something between them, a barrier he could never break through.
"It’s really nothing."
It wasn’t that Evelyn Grant didn’t want to tell him. ’But... how can I tell Ryan Sterling about this?’
’Am I supposed to tell him my colleagues suspect I’m having an affair with the head of the law firm?’
She just couldn’t bring herself to say the words.
"It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it. I won’t force you."
Besides, he had other ways of finding out.
After the prenatal check-up, they left the hospital.
Maybe she was just exhausted, or maybe it was because she could truly relax by Ryan Sterling’s side.
Evelyn Grant actually fell asleep in the car.
He turned his handsome face to look at her. Without waking her, he gently and slowly reclined her seat.
Listening to the sound of her steady breathing, Ryan Sterling ended up driving around the city several times, unwilling to park and wake her.
During this time, Ryan Sterling set his phone to silent.
Little did he know, this was about to scare the life out of Mr. Shaw!
He had been busy all day without a moment’s rest. The second he received Ryan Sterling’s message, he rushed to the law firm to ask around.
At first, no one would talk. But after asking around from multiple sources, he finally learned that there were rumors circulating in the firm about him and Evelyn Grant!
This... this was a death sentence!
If Ryan Sterling found out, he’d be a dead man.
Steeling himself, he finally managed to dial Ryan Sterling’s number. But he called twice, and no one answered!
Countless scenarios immediately flooded his mind.
He was truly on pins and needles.
Fortunately, about an hour later, he finally received a call from Ryan Sterling.
"Mr. Sterling!"
"Yes."
"I know what happened with Ms. Grant, but... when you find out, can you please not be angry? I’ll handle it as quickly as possible and make sure there are no loose ends."
Hearing this, Ryan Sterling paused for a moment before replying, "Speak."
"...Here’s what happened. At the firm, I made a point to check in on Ms. Grant, since I was worried she might be under a lot of stress. But another lawyer, a woman, saw it. She even took a picture, and then... ran around the office spreading gossip to everyone else!"
This matter wasn’t exactly huge. After all, wherever there are people, there’s bound to be gossip.
But it wasn’t trivial, either!
This was the apple of the big boss’s eye! Who would dare lay a finger on her?
After hearing this, Ryan Sterling’s voice grew even colder and deeper. Even over the phone, Mr. Shaw could hear his displeasure.
"Then everyone at the firm involved in this, anyone who gossiped about Evelyn Grant, is fired."
"Yes, yes, I understand! Don’t you worry, I’ll take care of it properly and make sure nothing like this ever happens again!"
"See that you do."
Mr. Shaw agreed profusely.
Not only did Ryan Sterling provide a solution, but he also gave another warning, "From now on, when you need to speak with Evelyn Grant, do not get close to her! Maintain your distance. Just state your business clearly and that’s it."
He was a man, too, and naturally, Ryan Sterling didn’t want him having any deeper private interactions with Evelyn Grant.
Of course Mr. Shaw understood. "Rest assured, it absolutely won’t happen again! It’s just that, you know, ever since Ms. Grant got out of prison, she’s been so timid at the firm! I was afraid she was under a lot of stress, so I just said a few words to her."
In truth, he really had her best interests at heart.
Because Mr. Shaw could see that in order to make up for the "damage" she had brought to the firm, Evelyn Grant was practically working herself to the bone.
If she kept this up, her body wouldn’t be able to take it.
