Chapter 60: Chapter 60: We’re All Family

Wasn’t the reason Evelyn Grant had chosen Julian Sterling in the first place simply that his own attempts to express his love had been too awkward?

So now, he was changing.

He would be direct.

"Is this because of the baby?"

"No, it’s because of you." Ryan Sterling met her gaze, his own unwavering, the fierce emotion in his eyes impossible to conceal. "From beginning to end, the only one I’ve ever wanted is you! The child... I want this child because it’s *our* child!"

Evelyn Grant wanted to say something.

She wanted to convince Ryan Sterling to give up on her.

This whole mess with the Sterling family had left Evelyn Grant genuinely terrified. The very thought of the path ahead was suffocating.

But when face-to-face with Ryan Sterling, any words of rejection had to be phrased delicately.

"It’s too difficult, Ryan Sterling. I still don’t have the courage to start this with you."

"Then I’ll wait. I’ll wait until you’re brave enough, until you feel we can be together. I’m not afraid of waiting."

"..."

"Don’t set a limit. I won’t set a time limit either."

Ryan Sterling knew only one thing: he absolutely could not let her go again.

...

After returning to the office for a video conference, Julian Sterling had just gotten into his car when his secretary started briefing him.

He also gingerly confirmed whether the business trip was truly canceled.

"I’ve already told you. You don’t need to ask again."

"Understood, Mr. Sterling."

The secretary nodded and didn’t dare say another word.

Julian Sterling sat in the back seat, pinching the bridge of his nose with his long fingers and rubbing it firmly.

His dark eyes watched the neon lights flash by outside the window. Then, he took out his phone and glanced at his messages.

There was no reply.

He didn’t know if Evelyn Grant simply hadn’t seen it, or if she had and was deliberately not replying.

’But this isn’t going to work!’

’There has to be a way to break this stalemate.’

Frowning slightly, Julian Sterling suddenly said, "Stop at the jewelry store up ahead."

"Yes, Mr. Sterling."

After the black Maybach came to a smooth stop in front of the shop, Julian Sterling strode out of the car.

The moment he walked in, a sales associate greeted him enthusiastically.

"Hello, sir. What are you looking for?"

"Please recommend something for a woman in her fifties."

The associate looked slightly surprised.

After all, Julian Sterling didn’t look like the type to be buying a gift for an older woman.

’But then again, buying something for his mother would be perfectly normal.’

"Of course! Are you looking for a necklace? A bracelet?"

"Both."

At this, the associate’s eyes instantly lit up.

"Certainly. I’ll get them for you right away."

As she turned to get the jewelry, Julian Sterling took out his phone and dialed a number.

The call connected quickly.

"Hello? Julian?"

Chloe Shea sounded quite surprised by the call.

’It was mostly because this son-in-law of hers had never once taken the initiative to call her!’

"Mom." Julian Sterling’s voice was gentle. "The thing is, I’ve been so busy with work that I’ve neglected you. Because of it, Eve and I have had a few disagreements. I’ve thought it over, and it’s definitely my fault—I haven’t been good enough. So I was thinking of buying you a gift and delivering it in person to offer my apologies."

Upon hearing this, Chloe Shea quickly replied, "Oh, there’s no need! We’re family, what’s the point of buying gifts? As long as you and Eve are happy together, what right do I have to complain at my age? Honestly, Eve... how could she fight with you over something like that!"
