Chapter 43: Chapter 43: The Drug Takes Effect on Evelyn Grant

Since her younger son was abroad all year and busy with work, she hadn’t pressured him much about getting married.

This time, however, Ryan Sterling didn’t say he had no intention of marrying, as he had before. Instead, he changed his tune.

"Let’s wait until my brother’s business is settled."

Florence Morgan was pleasantly surprised. "From the sound of it, has a girl finally caught your eye?"

"There’s been someone for a while now."

It was just that he hadn’t been the one to bring her to the Sterling Estate.

"As long as you don’t pull this whole ’I’m never getting married’ thing, I don’t care what kind of girl you bring home! Poor or rich, pretty or ugly—as long as you like her, Mom has no objections!"

Ryan Sterling chuckled. "As long as you and Dad have no objections, that’s all that matters."

"Of course not!" It seemed Florence Morgan had just seen something on her end, as she quickly added, "Mom’s busy with something right now. We’ll talk later!"

...

Evelyn Grant was in the kitchen simmering a soup, watching the time carefully. She was worried it would cook for too little time, but also for too long.

Florence Morgan had just come in and given her a bottle of water.

She wasn’t on guard at all. After a gentle "thank you," she twisted the cap and took a sip.

"Have some more. They say you can actually taste a hint of sweetness in this mineral water!" Florence Morgan was very enthusiastic, persistently urging her to take a few more sips.

Not wanting to be rude to an elder, Evelyn Grant had no choice but to drink some more.

And it was true—if she savored it, there was a faint, subtle sweetness. She couldn’t tell if it was real or just her imagination.

Seeing her "mission" was accomplished, Florence Morgan walked out of the kitchen and sent a text to her elder son.

[Eve drank it. Your father and I will find an excuse to leave the Sterling Estate.]

A moment later, a reply came from Julian Sterling: [Okay.]

But in the kitchen, Evelyn Grant was still completely oblivious.

After standing for a while, she began to feel incredibly hot.

But since she was simmering soup, Evelyn subconsciously assumed it was just the steam making the air feel stuffy.

She even deliberately opened the kitchen window to air the room out, but it did nothing to relieve the stuffiness. In fact... it felt like she was coming down with a fever; her entire body began to burn!

’Did I catch Ryan Sterling’s cold?’

Evelyn Grant raised a hand to her forehead. It was shockingly hot!

She was about to take a step to leave when she realized her legs felt like jelly.

Her body lurched forward, and she nearly fell.

"Mrs. Morgan? I’m not feeling well..."

Evelyn Grant called out from the kitchen, hoping for help.

But there was no response from the living room.

Fighting back a wave of dizziness, she turned off the stove and walked out, only to find the living room completely empty.

Evelyn Grant quickly reached for her phone, intending to call 911.

Suddenly—

The next second—

Her phone was snatched from her hand from behind.

"Evelyn Grant, deep down, you still want to get back together with me, don’t you? Stop playing hard to get. It’s pointless."

That was... Julian Sterling’s voice!

Evelyn Grant looked over in astonishment, her small, delicate face already flushed from the effects of the drug.

"You..."

"Otherwise, why would you be here trying to curry favor with my parents?" Julian Sterling said, striding toward her and closing the distance.

Evelyn was already starting to feel dizzy, but she clenched her fists tightly, digging her nails into her palms in an attempt to stay lucid.

"I just came to help your mom with the soup... I’m leaving!"

"Admit it. You still have feelings for me." Julian Sterling’s lips curled into a smirk. He reached out, yanked Evelyn into his arms, and pinned her against the wall. "You’re not going anywhere today."

Evelyn suddenly realized what had happened. "The water... was it... you?"

"You didn’t want the abortion, did you? Well, you’d better pray that after today, you can still keep this bastard."
