Chapter 41: Chapter 41: You’re Not Married, So You Wouldn’t Understand

Everyone else might forget, but Evelyn Grant never would.

If she could forgive this, it would mean that she deserved all the suffering and injustice she had endured!

Her words left Florence Morgan at a loss for what to say, so she quickly changed the subject.

"Come, come, have a seat for a bit! The soup isn’t urgent."

"I won’t stay. I have something to do later—I need to speak with my client."

Saying this, Evelyn Grant walked into the kitchen of the Sterling Estate, clearly knowing her way around.

Watching her former daughter-in-law’s back, Florence Morgan genuinely hoped that she and her eldest son could reconcile.

She sighed, exchanged a look with her husband who was sitting on the sofa, then walked over and took a bottle of water from his hand.

"Julian said... as long as she drinks this, it’ll work?"

Mr. Sterling nodded. "Yes. The more she drinks, the more effective it will be."

"I understand."

Florence Morgan started toward the kitchen with the water, but Mr. Sterling suddenly stopped his wife. "Is what we’re doing... really right? Aren’t we letting Old Grant down?"

After all, they had been neighbors for over a decade, and Evelyn Grant’s father had once saved the Sterling patriarch’s life!

"I don’t want to do this either! But tell me, what other choice do we have? If there’s anyone to blame, it’s that homewrecker. She’s malicious, seducing a married man and throwing the Sterling family into chaos! In the end, I’m just doing this so the two of them can break the ice. We can’t actually let them get divorced, can we?!"

Seeing her husband’s lingering hesitation, she tried to convince him, though it was as if she were trying to convince herself at the same time.

"Can you bear to see Eve become someone else’s daughter-in-law?"

Mr. Sterling sighed helplessly. "Of course I can’t."

"Then that settles it, doesn’t it?"

She couldn’t bear it either! ℴ

...

After Evelyn Grant left, Ryan Sterling went to find Harry Quinn.

He hadn’t slept much all night either, but that was because he’d been partying at a bar until dawn!

"It’s still better back home. The girls here are just easier on the eyes!"

Ryan Sterling was already used to his friend’s playboy attitude. He tapped a cigarette out of the pack, turned his head to light it, and took a drag. "Then you should come back too."

"I’d love to! But what about the company over there?" Harry Quinn tutted. "Give me one too."

He took a cigarette from Ryan Sterling’s pack, but before he could light it, he suddenly realized something was off!

"Wait! What do you mean, ’too’? Don’t tell me you came back to Kyro this time with no intention of leaving?!"

"It depends on what Evelyn Grant wants. If she wants to stay in the country in the future, then I’ll stay. If she’s willing to go to Eldoria with me, that’s fine too."

Harry Quinn nearly jumped right off the sofa in the hotel suite!

"Bro, are you always this lovesick? How come I never noticed before?"

Ryan Sterling wasn’t annoyed by the taunt. He just smiled, a plume of gray-white smoke drifting from his thin lips and slowly dissipating.

"You’re not married, so of course you wouldn’t understand."

"..."

"Harry Quinn, I really, truly want to grow old with her."

Ryan Sterling wasn’t joking. His words were incredibly sincere.

Even though Harry Quinn was well aware of his good friend’s feelings for Evelyn Grant, he couldn’t help but feel moved upon hearing those words.

"You really are hopelessly devoted."

That was why he knew with such certainty that Wendy’s feelings for Ryan Sterling would never be reciprocated.

"In any case, I’ve finally gotten what I wished for."

Ryan Sterling’s lips curved into a smile. "She is mine, and she will only ever be mine."
