I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 36: I’ll Find a Way to Get That Medicine Myself
Chapter 36: Chapter 36: I’ll Find a Way to Get That Medicine Myself
In the end, she fulfilled Ryan Sterling’s wish.
The chicken soup wasn’t even finished simmering, but its aroma already filled the entire villa.
Evelyn Grant handled these tasks with ease; after all, she used to cook for Julian Sterling all the time.
But he had never liked it.
It had made her lose all confidence, and she even began to wonder if her cooking was any good at all.
After a moment’s hesitation, Evelyn Grant let the soup cool slightly before carrying a bowl into Ryan Sterling’s bedroom.
He certainly seemed to love it.
He took one sip and nearly drained the entire bowl.
"Is there more?"
"...Yes."
Evelyn returned to the kitchen to get him more. "Slow down, there’s plenty left! If you finish it all, I can always make more."
Ryan Sterling’s spirits genuinely seemed to lift after he had the chicken soup.
He was even able to prop himself up on his elbows and offer her a slight smile.
"Thank you. You’ve gone to so much trouble."
It was such a simple sentence.
Yet it left Evelyn momentarily stunned.
Because before...
Whenever Julian Sterling got sick, she had always cared for him just as devotedly—in fact, she had been even more attentive and meticulous than she was being now.
But not once had she ever heard the words "thank you" pass his lips.
After a while, she’d started to overlook her own efforts, subconsciously believing that taking care of Julian Sterling was simply her duty.
"You’re welcome."
She replied with a smile of her own.
...
They weren’t the only ones who’d had a sleepless night. Julian Sterling had also tossed and turned until dawn.
He had moved back to Siren’s Cove.
Everything here should have been familiar. The house was the same, the layout and decor unchanged, yet Julian Sterling couldn’t shake the feeling that he was in a stranger’s home.
The smiling woman who was always by his side, fussing over his well-being, was gone.
He stayed up until six in the morning, when his phone finally rang.
Julian Sterling snatched it up, but the number on the screen wasn’t the one he was hoping for.
"Mom..."
"What happened to your voice? Are you feeling sick?"
"Yeah, I haven’t been sleeping well lately."
Florence Morgan sighed. "See? This is what I’m talking about. A husband and wife need to be on good terms to have a peaceful life! You just got divorced, and you’re already sick."
Julian Sterling lowered his gaze, saying nothing.
"Want me to give Eve a call? I can ask her to come check on you!"
"She won’t come."
"Why not?"
He didn’t know why, but he was certain of it.
His head was starting to ache.
Julian raised a hand to rub his brow. "Mom, I’ll find a way to get that medicine myself."
"Can you get it?"
"I can."
Florence hummed in agreement. "Okay, I’ll tell your brother."
Julian instinctively tried to stop her. "No! Don’t tell him."
He paused for a moment before explaining.
"In case the medicine I get doesn’t work, we can use the one Ryan gets as a backup. Besides, this is my family’s business. Even though he’s my brother, I don’t want him laughing at my expense or knowing the exact day I plan to act."
"Why are you so guarded around your own brother?" Florence said, confused. "It’s not like he’s going to sabotage you, is it?"
"I’m not being guarded. As his older brother, I just don’t want to be so embarrassed in front of him. If our plan works and Evelyn comes back to me, then I have no intention of telling Ryan the details. I’ll just let him think his sister-in-law and I were having a little spat."
"And if the plan fails, Ryan won’t know anything, so I won’t lose face."
Julian Sterling himself didn’t know why.
But he just didn’t want his brother to know.
