"You’re not upset, you’re just being considerate of the younger generation! But if I hadn’t shown up, that would make me a rude son-in-law." After speaking, he glanced at Evelyn Grant. "Eve, isn’t that right?"

Evelyn Grant had no desire to play along with Julian Sterling’s act.

Right now, all she wanted was for this to be over so she could get away from him.

Once her mother and brother finally finished eating, Evelyn Grant saw her chance. "Mom, I’m going to get the check."

But she had barely stepped out when Julian Sterling followed right behind her!

"I’ll get it."

He spoke in that same gentle voice.

But they weren’t in the private room anymore! Evelyn Grant didn’t have to hold back any longer.

"That’s enough! Julian Sterling, what’s the point of all this?"

"What have I done? I just want to get closer to your family, to make up for neglecting them in the past. Is that so wrong?"

"I don’t need you making up for anything! Let me remind you again, we are divorced!"

From now on, we go our separate ways. There’s nothing to make up for and no debts between us!

She had been wronged in so many ways, it was true.

But Evelyn Grant no longer wanted to dwell on any of it.

All she wanted was to sever ties with Julian Sterling, and even the entire Sterling Family, as quickly as possible!

"You’re so heartlessly insistent on cutting ties with me because you’ve already found a new brother-in-law for your little brother, isn’t that it?"

Julian Sterling was, after all, the eldest son of the Sterling Family, and a company president who commanded respect wherever he went.

To be treated with such loathing by Evelyn Grant naturally made him fly into a rage from the humiliation. He shot back, "What, if I hadn’t come today, were you planning on bringing that other man?"

"..."

"Evelyn Grant, I haven’t even told everyone what you’ve done! You hooked up with another man during our marriage and got pregnant with his bastard child. What right do you have to act so high and mighty now?"

"Between the two of us, one person certainly did cheat during the marriage. But it wasn’t me."

Knowing she was referring to Jane Jacobs again, Julian Sterling immediately shot back, "I told you! I never slept with her, so I didn’t cheat!"

Evelyn Grant curled her lip.

She didn’t want to waste any more time on him.

She couldn’t even be bothered to argue with him.

But just as she tried to leave, Julian Sterling blocked her path again. "Tell me. That night your brother called you so late... who was the man who answered the phone and lied about being his brother-in-law?"

"That has nothing to do with you."

"He impersonated me! How can it have nothing to do with me?"

He had just finished his furious question when the phone in his palm suddenly rang!

He glanced down, and his anger subconsciously subsided. Clearing his throat, he let Evelyn Grant be and stepped aside to take the call.

"Hello, Ryan."

"Brother, Mom wants you back at the main house."

"Is something wrong? I’m busy at the moment." Julian Sterling said, then deliberately added, "Your sister-in-law and I are having dinner with her mother."

The other end of the line went silent.

The silence stretched on for so long that Julian Sterling almost thought he’d been hung up on.

"Ryan?"

"You said... you’re with my sister-in-law?" Ryan Sterling’s voice dropped a few degrees. "...Evelyn Grant?"

"Who else would it be?" he chuckled. "Just tell Mom for me. I’m hanging up now."

Julian Sterling was about to end the call, but unexpectedly, Ryan Sterling spoke. "Where."

"Hm?"

"Where are you guys?"

"We’re at..." He caught himself, confused. "Ryan, why do you ask? An elder is with us, so it’s not convenient for you to come over."

Ryan Sterling didn’t answer. He just hung up.

Then, a second later, Evelyn Grant’s phone began to ring.
