Chapter 154: Chapter 154: I Must Verify

"You think I’m just trying to stir up trouble? I can show you the original chat log for that screenshot! Evelyn Grant, if you really trust Ryan Sterling that much, what’s the harm in looking? Right?"

"..."

As Evelyn Grant hesitated, an image arrived on her phone.

But she still didn’t open it right away.

"What are you really trying to do?"

"I want to tell you that I was truly wrong. I shouldn’t have framed you for Jane Jacobs’s case and sent you to prison. I should have helped you clear your name, I should have protected you! I know I was wrong now. Just give me a chance to make it right, and I swear I won’t let you down again!"

"That’s impossible. Don’t even think about it."

"If it’s impossible for me, then it’s even more impossible for Ryan Sterling! Tell me, would a man who once helped deliver you to my bed truly love you?"

Evelyn Grant seemed to pick up on something.

She lowered her head, her fingertip twitched, and she opened the image!

The words on the screen were ones Evelyn Grant both recognized and didn’t.

"This... This isn’t from Ryan Sterling! This is another one of your schemes!"

"Evelyn Grant, look at the time the message was sent! If you still don’t believe me, I can go to my mother and get her phone! You can verify it yourself, can’t you?"

She clenched her fists. "Fine. Then bring me the phone. I want to verify it!"

Evelyn Grant knew Julian Sterling all too well. ’Maybe... this is just another one of his traps!’

’I can’t let myself be fooled again.’

...

Evelyn Grant dragged her weak body back to the law firm.

She looked so unwell that before the morning meeting had even finished, Mr. Shaw had already noticed something was wrong with her.

"Ms. Grant, are you not feeling well? Why don’t you go home and get some rest?"

Evelyn Grant wanted to say she couldn’t neglect her work, but the way her body felt was undeniable.

’Staying in the conference room would probably just hold up my other colleagues even more.’

So she stood up and nodded. "Alright. I’m so sorry, I’m just... not feeling well today."

"It’s no problem at all, just go home! We’ll count today as sick leave."

"No need. I’ll just sit in my office for a bit. I might feel better."

Evelyn Grant got up and returned to her office. She had barely sat down when a call came in from Julian Sterling.

"I’ve got the phone. Where are you? I’ll bring it over."

"You pick a place. I’ll go to you."

Evelyn Grant didn’t want a single one of her colleagues at the firm to see Julian Sterling.

"Fine."

At this point, Julian Sterling didn’t have much of a choice.

After hanging up, Evelyn Grant sat in her chair for a long while before finally getting up. She took a taxi to the location Julian Sterling had sent her.

On the way, a dull ache throbbed in her lower abdomen.

Although her body had been damaged by the abortion, it wasn’t like other procedures that left a person without even the strength to stand.

As long as she had the willpower to push through it, she could still act like a normal person.

She reached the appointed place.

From a distance, she spotted Julian Sterling’s figure.

It was an instinct.

Even though she hated him now, despised him even, the image of him etched into her memory couldn’t be erased in an instant.

She would still spot him first in a crowd.

Just like the countless times she had gazed at his figure in the past...
