Chapter 137: Chapter 137: So It Was to See Off Mr. Sterling

"Your sister is just blowing off steam! She’ll cool down eventually and come back to me."

"Then you can come talk to me about this when my sister forgives you." Alex Grant’s expression was grim, and his tone was stiff. "I have homework to do, so I’m leaving."

He didn’t even say goodbye.

’Because Alex Grant didn’t want to see him again! He never wanted to see anyone who bullied his sister and mother.’

"..."

Watching Alex Grant’s retreating figure, the gentle facade Julian Sterling had managed to put on vanished in an instant.

’It looks like the plan to get Alex to drug Evelyn is a dead end. The only other option is to go through my former mother-in-law.’

’It wasn’t that Julian Sterling didn’t want to approach her; he was just... afraid of triggering Chloe Shea’s heart condition. If she actually died, he would have truly and utterly infuriated Evelyn Grant!’

’But now, he had no other choice. He couldn’t worry about the consequences anymore.’

...

Evelyn Grant arrived at the law firm. She first went to her office to organize some files, then got up and prepared to head to the conference room.

After handing what she would need to Assistant Wright, she found a seat and sat down.

A message from Ryan Sterling appeared on her phone.

[My flight is at three this afternoon. I’ll be back the day after tomorrow.]

A small smile touched Evelyn Grant’s lips. She replied, [Okay, got it.]

After sending the message, she thought for a moment and added another line.

[I’ll ask my boss in a bit if I can take the afternoon off. I want to see you off at the airport!]

Ryan Sterling replied quickly, [Okay. I’ll be waiting.]

Evelyn Grant put down her phone and looked up just in time to see Mr. Shaw walk into the conference room.

She smiled instinctively, and Mr. Shaw smiled back.

Once the meeting began, Evelyn Grant kept her eyes on Mr. Shaw.

The moment it ended, she quickly stood up, walked over, and called out to him, "Mr. Shaw!"

"What is it, Ms. Grant?" Mr. Shaw stopped immediately. Even if he had something urgent to attend to, he had to make Evelyn Grant his priority.

"Well, I have something I need to do this afternoon. I have to go to the airport. Do you think... you could let me take some time off? It won’t be for long. I’m just seeing someone off and then I’ll be right back."

’To the airport?’

’Without Ryan Sterling’s approval, how could he possibly let Evelyn Grant leave?’

"Who are you seeing off? Is it essential that you go?"

"Yes. A very important person."

"Have you finished all your work for this afternoon, then? Ms. Grant, you know how busy the firm is right now!"

Just as Mr. Shaw finished speaking, he received a text from Ryan Sterling.

[Evelyn Grant is asking for time off to see me off at the airport.]

’She’s seeing off Ryan Sterling?’

’So she’s seeing off Mr. Sterling!’

Instantly, Mr. Shaw’s expression changed. He switched gears and said with a smile, "However, I have complete faith in your professional capabilities. I’m sure you can handle your responsibilities! Go ahead, it’s fine. You can just leave when it’s time. No need to file a formal leave request with me."

’Evelyn Grant had just assumed he was going to say no. How... did he suddenly change his mind?’

"You’re... letting me go?"

"Of course! Things come up for everyone; how could I not give you the time off? Go see them off, and don’t rush back! You almost never request leave. Now that you’ve finally asked for something, there’s no way I could refuse!"

Hearing this, Evelyn Grant breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you for your trust, Mr. Shaw. You can rest assured I absolutely won’t let my work fall behind. I’ll make sure everything gets done so it doesn’t cause any trouble for you."

Mr. Shaw waved his hand dismissively. "It’s no problem! Go on."
