I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 136: It Is Whoever I Say It Is
Chapter 136: Chapter 136: It Is Whoever I Say It Is
To Alex Grant, the title "brother-in-law" now sounded rather ironic.
He hadn’t wanted to say anything, really. After all, the Sterling and Grant families had once been on good terms. Alex even remembered Julian buying him snacks when he was just a kid.
But—
But none of that mattered when compared to how Julian had mistreated his sister.
"Julian, I don’t think I should... call you brother-in-law anymore, should I? I think it’s better if I just keep calling you Julian."
That one sentence made Julian realize that Evelyn had definitely told her brother about the divorce.
"Evelyn actually told you?! Isn’t she afraid—"
"Is it because you thought she’d be afraid? You knew our mother’s health is poor and that I’m swamped with my studies, so you figured you could mistreat my sister without any consequences, right?" The question seemed to tear a hole in his composure.
Once something is broken open, it can’t be held back any longer.
Before Julian could say anything in his own defense, Alex’s next words were already tumbling out.
"I know our Grant family isn’t as wealthy as your Sterling family. Marrying you was considered marrying up for my sister! But your family agreed to this marriage. Your parents both gave their approval before my sister married you! If you looked down on us from the start, why did you agree to it? It’s not like my sister begged and pleaded to marry you!"
Julian’s thick brows knitted together.
At this point, he couldn’t say much else. All he could do was try to placate him.
"I made your sister unhappy, and I admit I was wrong! I never meant to look down on her, nor did I ever think the Grant family was marrying up. I just... I wasn’t thinking about her feelings at the time, and I never expected things to turn out this way! If I had known, I never would have—"
"Never would have what? Julian, you don’t actually regret hurting her, do you? You were just so used to my sister waiting on you. Now that she’s suddenly not there to cook your meals and look after you, you’ve finally realized how good you had it!"
Despite his young age, Alex saw things with perfect clarity.
He wasn’t someone Julian could fool with just a few empty words.
Especially when it came to his own sister. Alex had always loved his sister more than anyone—even more than his own mother.
How could he possibly let someone mistreat her?
"Alex, it’s really not what you think! Let me explain!"
"You don’t have to explain anything to me. The moment I found out my sister divorced you, I knew. I knew you must have wronged her terribly, made her suffer, and broken her heart time and time again! Otherwise, knowing my sister... she’s so hopelessly devoted. Once she sets her heart on someone, that’s it. She would never have divorced you otherwise!"
And that was without Alex even knowing that Julian had tricked Evelyn into agreeing to the divorce in the first place.
If he knew, he probably wouldn’t even be willing to call him "Julian" anymore.
"Who goes their whole life without making a single mistake? You can’t, can you? I just made one mistake. I’ve apologized, and I’ve said I’m willing to make up for it! Why can’t I just get one more chance?"
’I was definitely wrong,’ Julian thought, ’but it wasn’t a capital offense, was it?’
’In the end, Evelyn was rescued, wasn’t she?’
"Even my sister, the one person who loved you so much, isn’t willing to forgive you or give you another chance. Who do you expect to give you one?"
