I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 131: Evelyn Grant, I Don’t Want to Leave
Chapter 131: Chapter 131: Evelyn Grant, I Don’t Want to Leave
Having Evelyn Grant by his side made any hardship he faced feel insignificant.
Evelyn Grant gently removed his hand.
She smiled. "Ryan Sterling, promise me one thing, okay?"
"Of course. Tell me."
"Please, stop being so subservient. Be yourself. Let’s just be a normal married couple! I hate seeing you act so meek, and I don’t want you to be constantly plagued by insecurity. To be honest, it hurts me to see you this way."
Ryan Sterling was taken aback. It took him a few seconds before he finally nodded.
"Okay."
"I chose you, and I’m not going to change my mind so easily. You can rest assured."
Her words instantly choked back the sentence on the tip of his tongue: "There’s something I need to tell you."
He had wanted to confess to Evelyn Grant.
He’d wanted to tell her about... about that text message from Florence Morgan.
But seeing Evelyn so happy today, and after she had said something so touching, Ryan Sterling simply couldn’t bring himself to say it.
He forced the words back down.
"Mm, okay. I won’t worry."
Ryan Sterling took a breath to compose himself. "You haven’t eaten, have you? Should we eat out today?"
Evelyn Grant was about to agree when something occurred to her. "Don’t you have work to deal with?"
"No, I don’t have much work today."
"Ryan Sterling, you’re lying."
"..."
"I know you came back to the country because of me. You must have a ton of work you’ve fallen behind on! You just promised me we’d act like a normal married couple, and now you’re lying to me?"
Ryan Sterling pursed his lips. He didn’t like the word "lie," so he hesitated for a moment before saying...
"It’s true that I’ve finished all the work I can handle on my computer."
"And what about the work that can’t be done on a computer?"
"..."
Evelyn Grant squeezed his hand and said warmly, "Ryan Sterling, go take care of your work. I like a man with ambition! Think about it, so many people at your company are counting on you to lead them to success, but you’re here watching over me. Aren’t you letting them down? As the CEO, you have a responsibility to your employees."
How could Ryan Sterling not know that?
It was just...
"Evelyn Grant, I’m afraid that as soon as I leave, my brother will start pestering you again."
"Are you afraid he’ll pester me, or are you afraid my resolve will weaken and I’ll agree to remarry him?"
"I know you won’t remarry him."
Ryan Sterling was certain of that, at least.
He just felt insecure.
"Well, there you go. Ryan Sterling, focus on your own work. Don’t put it off too much because of me! You’re putting a lot of pressure on me by doing this, and I won’t be able to take it."
"But if I have to leave the country, I’ll have so much work to catch up on. I might not have much time to spend with you and our child."
"Then that’s all the more reason you should get to it quickly! Don’t let it all pile up and let all your hard work go to waste."
If things continued like this, Evelyn Grant would feel she was truly doing Ryan Sterling a great disservice.
"Evelyn Grant, I don’t want to leave."
"Then how about this? You finish your work, and then you come right back. I’ll be waiting for you at home. Alright?"
She took a breath. "Ryan Sterling, after everything that happened with your brother, I’ve realized something. In a healthy relationship, both people should be moving forward together, not standing still, and certainly not going backward. If we want this to last, we have to make long-term plans, right?"
