Chapter 120: Chapter 120: Blatant Favoritism

Florence Morgan was afraid her older son would do something impulsive, which would only make things even more difficult!

The last piece of advice she’d given him had been based on the assumption that since they were husband and wife, even an illegal act wouldn’t cause a major incident.

But now...

Things were different now.

If he acted so rashly again, and Evelyn Grant decided to press the issue, he would be in serious trouble!

Florence Morgan couldn’t bear to see her son actually end up in prison.

"Mom, you know as well as I do that the longer this drags on, the smaller the chances of Evelyn and I getting back together! And now with Ryan sticking his nose in it, who knows how things will turn out?"

Julian Sterling was absolutely sick of these days spent all alone in the house.

He didn’t want to go on like this for a single second longer.

"Julian, I don’t mean to nag you! But you had a perfectly good life and you’re the one who threw it all away. Now you’re asking me to come up with a solution? I already told you, I have to consider your brother’s feelings in this. You have to give me time! It’s not that easy."

’If her younger son were still young and immature, she could afford to play favorites, just like she did when they were little. The truth was, Florence had always preferred her older son. She’d found him sensible and obedient, and he would even help her look after the younger one.’

’But Ryan was a grown man now!’

’She couldn’t be so blatant with her favoritism. It would create a rift in the family, one that would be very difficult to heal later on.’

"What feelings of his do you have to consider? Ryan knows perfectly well he’s in the wrong! If he wasn’t, why didn’t he just admit he liked Evelyn back then? If that were the case, they should’ve just let her marry him from the very beginning. It would’ve saved all of us from this awkward mess!"

’Julian would rather he and Evelyn had never gotten involved in the first place!’

’That way, no matter what happened between him and Jane Jacobs, things wouldn’t have gotten to this point with Evelyn, the girl-next-door he’d known his whole life!’

In the past, Julian had never really stopped to think about things.

But now...

’All he had to do was close his eyes, and he could picture Evelyn during their school days. He could see her back then, always blushing as she shyly called him, "Julian."’

’Honestly, if Jane Jacobs had never shown up, Julian felt he might have actually fallen in love with Evelyn!’

’It was just that she was still so young back then, and he hadn’t thought of her in any other way.’

’Then Jane Jacobs came along. She was gentle, always smiling, and so understanding. During the long, hard years of his studies, she was there with him every day, cheering him on. That was why Julian had fallen for Jane, believing she was his ideal type.’

’Who would have known...’

’After that, everything changed.’

’Everything changed! It changed so much he no longer knew who was telling the truth and who was lying.’

"Your brother said it was because Eve told him the person she liked was you. He said he was just trying to help her be happy!"

"If he could step aside for her back then, why can’t he do it now? Does the whole world revolve around him?" Julian’s voice rose unconsciously. "I don’t care. If you can’t come up with a plan, then I’ll use my own methods to get Evelyn back. I refuse to let her actually end up with my own brother!"

Julian couldn’t bear the humiliation, and he could never bring himself to wish those two well!

"Don’t do anything rash! I’ll think of something, alright?"
