I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 116: I Want to See Evelyn Grant Now
Chapter 116: Chapter 116: I Want to See Evelyn Grant Now
She used to naively believe that Julian Sterling kept his distance because he was shy. Later, she thought it was because he was too busy with work and had neither the time nor the inclination for her.
Little did she know, it was because his heart already belonged to someone else.
And that someone simply wasn’t her.
"Evelyn Grant, while what you’ve said is what I want, it’s all contingent on you acknowledging my identity—acknowledging that I am your husband. Only then does it matter how other people address or see me."
"..."
"Without you, I couldn’t care less about any of that. With you, I care even less! Having you is enough."
Ryan Sterling knew he wasn’t good with words, especially when it came to women. He probably couldn’t say the things she wanted to hear.
But he would use his actions to prove that every word he said was true.
He was a man of his word.
"Okay, I understand."
...
「Night fell.」
Julian Sterling finished his work for the day and drove home from the office.
The few seconds it took to open the door were the hardest for him to endure.
Ever since the divorce, Julian Sterling always found himself pausing for a moment at the door.
At first, he told himself it was just because he wasn’t used to it.
After all, when Evelyn Grant was home, there was always someone to greet him, take his coat and briefcase, pour him a glass of warm water, and remind him about the next day’s weather.
But eventually, Julian Sterling could no longer lie to himself...
What he felt for Evelyn Grant was more than just habit.
She had entered his world subtly, almost imperceptibly, seeping into every corner of his life.
So when all traces of Evelyn Grant vanished, the shock was simply too great.
It was enough to turn Julian Sterling’s world upside down.
He walked in alone, changed his shoes, put down his things, and sat on the sofa. Staring at the empty house and the quiet surroundings, the sense of loss in his heart grew even more pronounced.
It was better during the day at the office. At least there were people around, sounds and activity, so he didn’t feel so lonely.
But now...
Julian Sterling really missed Evelyn Grant.
He missed her so, so much.
Unable to restrain himself, he picked up his phone and dialed Evelyn Grant’s number, but the voice on the other end said...
"Hello, the number you have dialed is currently switched off..."
Julian Sterling tried again, only to hear the same automated message.
He shot to his feet, grabbed his car keys, and left without even changing his shoes.
While driving, Julian Sterling dialed Evelyn Grant’s number again. After getting the same "switched off" message, he called Ryan Sterling instead.
"I need to see Evelyn Grant right now!"
"You can’t," Ryan Sterling replied just as bluntly.
His voice was deep and a little raspy, as if he had just been woken up.
"I have to see her! There are still so many things between Evelyn Grant and me that haven’t been cleared up. Our divorce was too rushed, and we didn’t even divide our assets properly. I need to talk to her in person!"
Julian Sterling was acting like a man possessed.
He just had to see Evelyn Grant, and he had to see her now.
"You don’t need to talk to her in person. It’s not necessary. You can have all the assets from your marriage. I’ve already made that decision on Evelyn Grant’s behalf."
"What right do you have to decide for her? This is a matter between a husband and wife! You may be my brother, but in this, you’re an outsider!"
"Of course I have the right, because legally, Evelyn Grant is now my wife!"
Julian Sterling clenched his fists tightly. "Are you so sure Evelyn Grant doesn’t want any of my assets? You’re just going to make her give it all up?"
"Brother, you don’t need to worry about that. If Evelyn Grant wants assets, I can give her as much as she could ever want."
