Chapter 103: Chapter 103: Bro, I’m Begging You

He’d always believed it was impossible for Evelyn Grant to leave him; the thought had never even crossed his mind.

He’d even subconsciously assumed that no matter who else left him, it would never be Evelyn.

So even after making such a terrible mistake, Julian Sterling still believed Evelyn was just angry for the moment. He thought she would come back to him sooner or later.

But now, he was growing less and less certain...

He could sense that Evelyn was already trying to live her own life, attempting to sever all ties with him.

How could that not fill Julian with fear?

He wouldn’t allow it!

He finished his cigarette.

Julian tossed the cigarette butt out the car window, took a deep breath, and pulled out his phone to call Ryan Sterling.

The other end picked up quickly.

An unspoken silence fell between the two brothers.

After a few seconds, Julian was the first to speak.

"Ryan, I’m begging you. Please. I don’t want things between us to get this ugly over a woman."

"Then let me beg you, Big Brother. All I want is Evelyn. Give her to me, and I won’t care about anything else."

Ryan’s voice was just as firm, without a hint of hesitation.

He knew exactly what his older brother wanted to say.

But when it came to Evelyn, he absolutely would not back down.

"She’s already my wife. Everyone in the Sterling family, all our relatives, they all know that Evelyn Grant is my wife. Have you ever considered the kind of public pressure she’d face if she got together with you? Ryan, you can’t be so selfish and only think about your own feelings."

Ryan laughed, his voice low and deep.

"Me, only thinking about my own feelings? Then what about you? When you were about to send your own wife to court to be sentenced to death for Jane Jacobs, did you ever stop to think how our relatives would see you? How they would see Evelyn?"

At this point, there was really no need for the two of them to talk any further.

The conversation was bound to fall apart after just a few sentences anyway.

Because neither of them was willing to give an inch.

Ryan had pursued Evelyn for so many years; he was never going to let her go.

As for Julian, he was now unwilling to let go of Evelyn’s devotion to him and the tenderness he had once taken for granted.

"I already told you, this whole thing was a misunderstanding. Besides, are you one hundred percent sure the evidence you found is even real?"

"Of course I’m sure. I didn’t fabricate any evidence for Evelyn."

From the moment Ryan learned of the incident, he never once suspected that Evelyn was the one who had harmed Jane Jacobs.

He knew she’d been kind-hearted her entire life.

Even with Jane trying to steal her husband, Evelyn would never do something that could take a life.

That silly girl would, at most, hide at home and cry, refuse to go outside, or just swallow her anger.

When it came to understanding Evelyn, Ryan knew her very well.

If she were the type to fight and scheme, she wouldn’t have been framed so badly by Jane and Julian in the first place.

"Then that evidence of yours is inadmissible! You must have gotten it through illegal channels!"

"Is that the point?" Ryan laughed. "The point is clearing Evelyn’s name. The point is making sure she isn’t framed by you to the brink of death again. It doesn’t matter how I proved her innocence. All you need to know is that I’ve laid the facts out in front of you. Of course, if you refuse to believe them, no one can force you to."
