Huo Tu caught his breath. Seeing the man was dressed in Beili military armor, he wasn’t afraid in the slightest. "COUGH, COUGH, COUGH... I want Ye Qianning to die a horrible death! What business is it of you Beili people? This is Nanyuan... You have no right... Mmph... mmph..."

"Second Uncle."

Huo Feng’s eyes widened.

Ma Liu and his men trembled in fear.

The man shoved his sword’s scabbard into Huo Tu’s mouth.

Huo Tu struggled. Judging by his expression, it was clear how viciously the man was acting.

"You want to kill my daughter? I’ll kill you right now and eliminate this threat for good." The man’s eyes glinted with murderous intent.

Horrified, Huo Feng quickly grabbed the man’s sword hilt as he applied more pressure. "Officer, any more force and you’ll kill him!"

"His life is what I want." As he spoke, the man used his Inner Strength to blast Huo Feng away.

Huo Feng staggered back several steps. ’What powerful Inner Strength,’ he thought in shock.

"Officer, you can’t kill our Second Master! We work for Old Prince Feng of Nanyuan, and he is in Dayu City right now! Officer, please, if not for our sake, then for his, I beg you to be merciful." Ma Liu knelt on the ground, trembling.

"Old Prince Feng of Nanyuan?" The man raised an eyebrow.

"Yes, yes."

"Did he order you to kill my daughter?"

"Uh... Officer, your daughter is...?"

"Ye Qianning."

Ma Liu was utterly confused. Huo Feng was confused. The entire Huo family was confused...

Huo Feng was the first to snap out of it. "Officer, we weren’t trying to kill Miss Ye! She’s our savior! My second uncle was stranded at sea for over four months, so his mind isn’t clear. Please, I beg you to be merciful."

"Right, right! Miss Ye is our savior! If she hadn’t shown us the way, we all would have perished at sea."

"Exactly! We’re all very grateful to Miss Ye."

Ma Liu and the men behind him also realized what was happening.

"Is that so?" The man’s eyes shifted.

Ma Liu nodded earnestly. "It’s true, it’s true! Our Second Master isn’t well. He often mistakes people for others."

The man straightened up, pulling his sword back. "Where is my daughter now?"

"At the Yan Hui Inn, inside the city."

A flicker of excitement crossed the man’s face. He turned, walked over to a convoy of carriages on the main road, and leaped onto a horse. The horse immediately galloped toward the city.

"General Zhan! General Zhan..."

He left the confused convoy behind.

"What’s going on?" Li Mu urged his horse forward.

A guard saluted. "Lord Li, General Zhan has galloped into the city."

"Let him be. Come, we’ll head into the city as well."

"Yes, sir."

A contingent of soldiers in Beili armor proceeded slowly toward the city gates.

The members of the Huo family watched the vast Beili procession pass by on the main road, their expressions as sour as could be.

Huo Feng helped Huo Tu up. The doctor from before, having just watched the whole spectacle, came over to examine him again.

"Doctor, will my second uncle’s throat be all right?"

The doctor examined him for a while, then said with a TSK, TSK, "His throat is all torn up. If the man had pushed any harder, he would’ve never spoken again in this life."

"What about now?"

"He shouldn’t speak for now either. I’ll prescribe some medicine, but it’s difficult to apply an ointment to the throat, so I’ll go back and mix something for him to drink."

"Okay, thank you, Doctor." Huo Feng breathed a sigh of relief.

The doctor stood up. "Looking at your group, young man, you’re the only one with any sense. It’s not my place to say, but thousands of people pass through Dayu City every day—all sorts of characters, from every walk of life. You lot really aren’t anything special."

"I understand. Doctor, how much do we owe you?"

"Pay me after I’ve returned and prepared the medicine. And young man, you’d better talk some sense into him, lest he lose his life over nothing." The doctor shouldered his medicine box and departed.

Huo Tu had recovered somewhat by then, but his throat was so hoarse that his muffled speech was unintelligible.
