"Liran, you..."

"Hmph, I don’t want to talk to my brother." Huo Liran turned her head away, tucking her hand around Huo Tu’s arm.

Huo Feng had been about to say something, but he swallowed his words when she tugged on Huo Tu’s arm.

"Alright, alright, what are you two siblings squabbling for? Let’s go. To the clinic." Huo Tu said, leading Huo Liran away.

After a few steps, Huo Liran glanced back to make a face at Huo Feng, then turned away with a haughty tilt of her chin.

Worry flickered in Huo Feng’s eyes. ’A personality like that is fine as long as she has the Huo family to protect her, but what will happen once she’s out on her own?’

He was worried she’d never be able to find a husband!

——

When Ye Qianning returned to her room, she lay down for a nap and didn’t wake until dinnertime. A waiter brought up her meal, but she had only taken two bites when there was a knock at the door.

"Come in."

Luo Feng entered and bowed respectfully to Ye Qianning. "Miss Ye."

"What is it?"

"The boy was clamoring to see you a few days ago, but you happened to be out at sea. I just heard you were back, so I came to get you."

"Perfect. I need to see him about something as well." Ye Qianning stood up. "Let’s go."

Luo Feng glanced at the food on the table. "It can wait until you’ve finished your meal, Miss Ye."

"I’ll skip it. Let’s go." Ye Qianning strode out of the room first.

’Her trip to sea a week ago had been for this very reason. Two weeks prior, she had followed the guidance of dolphins to find someone named Dapao, sending him back to their island with a letter for her master. Then, on a trip just a few days ago, she received her master’s reply and now had a good idea of what was happening.’

Ye Qianning arrived at the boy’s room. She knocked several times, but when there was no answer, she pushed the door open. A sharp weapon flew straight at her.

Luo Feng’s hand shot up and swatted it aside, and it fell to the floor with a sharp CLATTER.

Ye Qianning glanced down. It was an arrowhead.

"Miss Ye, are you alright?"

Ye Qianning’s brow furrowed as she looked at the wary boy inside. His hair was still a mess, but he was wearing clean clothes. His face, however, was just as it had been a month ago—so grimy she couldn’t make out his features.

The same was true for the five- or six-year-old child with him. His clothes were clean, but his hair and face were as messy as ever. He was hiding beside a table, staring at them.

"Are they always this wary?"

"According to the Shopkeeper, yes."

"What about their meals?"

"The staff just knocks and leaves the food at the door. They don’t dare go in. Two of the waiters have already been injured by them. The only person they won’t attack is the doctor," Luo Feng said.

"...You all certainly have a lot of patience."

"Hm?"

"If it were me, I’d have thrown brats like that out long ago. And you’re still feeding them and giving them a room? Are you paying for the privilege of being miserable?"

"..."

Ye Qianning walked inside. "I hear you were looking for me."

"You... you have to avenge my family." He wasn’t pleading; his tone was demanding, as if she owed them a debt.

"It seems you still don’t understand." Ye Qianning pulled a string of Jade Pendants from her sleeve and tossed them onto the floor. "Can you tell me which one of these is yours?"

The Jade Pendants landed with a crisp clatter, the sound echoing in the room.

Luo Feng looked over and recognized at a glance that they were all priceless pieces of fine jade. A pleasant fragrance also filled the air, one that seemed to make his entire body relax in an instant.

The boy’s eyes widened in shock. He immediately knelt to examine them, picking them up one by one. They were all identical to the one he remembered from his home—even the scent was the same.

"N-no... impossible... My father said it was one of a kind..."

"And this is just the tip of the iceberg. I can get you as many as you want. Is everyone who has one of these supposed to avenge your family?"

’One of a kind? Just another tall tale the old master spun back in the day.’
