Chapter 679: I Wanted to Teach Him a Lesson

A massive, pitch-black creature suddenly surfaced, lifting the entire ship. As the hull rose out of the water, two enormous fins clamped onto its sides, stabilizing it. The creature then turned and sped away from the tornado.

The ship was carried along on its back, cutting through the wind at an incredible speed.

"Cannon, how did you get here so fast?" Ye Qianning leaped from the ship, landing on Cannon’s back.

Cannon was the overlord of the entire Rashamon Sea Area, a ferocious beast. When she had first stumbled into its territory, she would have long since become its meal if the Old Man hadn’t arrived in the nick of time.

After that incident, she and Cannon were constantly at odds. But as the saying goes, you can’t get to know someone without a fight. Back and forth they went, and over two or three years, they naturally became good friends.

’A while ago, the old Taoist came looking for me. He said you’d be heading out to sea and told me to wait for you at the eye of the storm in the Rashamon Sea Area,’ a muffled voice rumbled from Cannon.

"That old Taoist," Ye Qianning chuckled.

’He’d already arranged for my voyage, yet he still made up that excuse about going into seclusion.’

’He obviously couldn’t bear to see me go, but he’s just too proud, always acting like the very sight of me is a nuisance.’

’Now that I’m gone, the island must be so quiet. I wonder if the old Taoist is used to it yet. And I wonder if he saw what I left for him on the rocky shore.’

’I’ve never seen the old Taoist care so much about anyone before. That day, he came into the deep sea and beat me up for a long time,’ Cannon’s muffled voice sounded rather simple and honest.

"Why did he beat you up?"

’The old Taoist told me to take you to the coast, but I didn’t really want to leave this sea area.’

"And he beat you up just for that?"

’Not entirely. When he entered the sea, I tried to teach him a little lesson, and that really set him off.’

Ye Qianning couldn’t help but give Cannon a thumbs-up. "You’ve got some serious guts. Why would you provoke him for no reason?"

’Even though I’ve never seen the old Taoist in a real fight, I’ve always known his skills are unfathomable. You couldn’t even describe him as human anymore.’

’The old Taoist always humbly claims he’s a hundred years old, but I don’t buy it. I have a feeling he’s an old fox who’s lived for several hundred years, maybe even longer.’

Cannon hummed and hawed. ’I was curious.’

"Curious about what?"

’I just suddenly got the feeling that the old Taoist’s temper had improved, so I wanted to test it. I never expected that all those fish and shrimp were just spouting nonsense and tricking me.’

"The old Taoist has always had a terrible temper; it’s not like you didn’t know that," Ye Qianning said, trying to hold back a laugh.

’Before I got to know Cannon, he was unbelievably ferocious. The overlord of the sea was practically a living Rakshasa. But after I became friends with him, I realized that while he isn’t much of a looker, he’s a total simpleton.’

’He can’t handle anything that requires brainpower. In human terms, he’s just a meathead.’

’For years, a bunch of fish and shrimp have been saying that the old Taoist had a complete personality change, that he spent all his days doting on some little girl. They even said she bullied him so much he’d cry. I never believed it before, but after I met you, I slowly started to.’

"What do you mean you started to believe it after you met me?"

’Well, that first time we met, I almost ate you, and the old Taoist rushed over and took you away. I was wondering how someone so weak could possibly bully the old Taoist to the point of tears. I thought he might really be different now. After that day, he never came back to the Rashamon Sea Area. Then, a few days ago, he suddenly came looking for me. I remembered the thrashing he gave me back then, and I just couldn’t resist... hehe.’

"Pfft..."

Ye Qianning had been listening intently, but when Cannon let out that final "hehe," she couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

’So foolish, so simple. That little "hehe" was just the cutest thing.’

’What are you laughing at?’ Cannon shifted his massive body, seemingly a little displeased.
