I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 998 - 482: 6th-Ring Spell Selection

The list of Tier 6 spells instantly left Gauss craving them.

Tier 6 Transmutation spell, [Bones of the Earth].

It alters the geological structure, causing a forest of bone-like stone spikes to erupt from the ground and attack enemies. If Gauss mastered this spell, he could instantly alter the battlefield’s terrain while utilizing the erupting stone spikes to inflict massive area-of-effect damage on enemy units.

Tier 6 Evocation spell, [Blade Barrier].

It creates a wall of high-speed rotating Magic Energy Sword Blades surrounding the body. It can be used for both offense and defense, boasting astonishing power on both fronts. In Gauss’s understanding, it was somewhat similar to the sword formations he had seen in TV dramas from his past life. Although Gauss’s own Protective capabilities were already outstanding—whether it was his constantly maintained passive Gauss Force Field or the tough dragon scales attached to him after activating [Dragon King’s Scion], both of which were enough to keep him completely safe—his defenses lacked a similar passive lethal counterattack effect.

Tier 6 Transmutation spell, [Disintegrate].

It fires a disintegrating energy ray. If it hits a target—be it a biological enemy, an inanimate object, or phenomena and special creations spawned by Magic Effects, such as the aforementioned stone spikes of [Bones of the Earth] or the [Blade Barrier]—it will inflict devastating destruction upon them. The immense destructive power of [Disintegrate] differs from the Fireball Technique or [Bones of the Earth]. Its advantage doesn’t lie in a massive attack range or a powerful shockwave, but rather in a more extreme form of internal destruction. It can completely disintegrate a target of the Casting into ashes if they cannot withstand it.

In this regard, its application scenarios are quite diverse. It isn’t always suitable to unleash large-scale "map-clearing" attacks. Even if their power is outstanding, if allies and enemies are mixed together within the blast radius, the attack becomes a double-edged sword, harming comrades while killing foes. However, the restrained yet formidable power of [Disintegrate] is enough to yield far better results. Moreover, as common sense dictates, pushing a single point to the absolute limit makes its destructive power in the core area truly terrifying.

Tier 6 Evocation spell, [Splendid Light Ball].

This spell was somewhat similar to [Blade Barrier] and could even be seen as a more magical version of it, similarly integrating both offense and defense. Although [Blade Barrier] was a spell, its resulting effects leaned more toward physical rigid destruction and physical protection. In contrast, [Splendid Light Ball] generated six magical light orbs around the user, which would similarly rotate around the Caster’s body. While the light orbs existed, the Caster could also utilize them for attacking or defending.

Its defensive aspect manifested when the Caster suffered external Magic Attacks. When faced with energy attacks like ice, fire, lightning, acid, Holy Light, and so on, they could convert one of the orbs to absorb the energy and resist the damage. Furthermore, they would gain high resistance to the corresponding type of spell damage. As for its offensive capabilities, they were manifested even more purely. The Caster could release the light orbs, sending them flying swiftly toward an enemy target to launch a ranged Magic Attack and create an energy explosion. Moreover, the specific Attribute of this Magic Attack could be freely adjusted according to the Caster’s needs, allowing them to exploit an enemy’s weaknesses by deploying the corresponding elemental damage. Additionally, the energy damage absorbed during defense could be returned to the opponent during an attack, drastically saving one’s own Magic Power consumption.

The effects of this spell also left Gauss feeling incredibly tempted. Although his Magic Power was extremely abundant and his Magic Power recovery speed was terrifying, it didn’t mean this spell lacked appeal. On the contrary, he coveted any ability that could generate a net-positive energy loop. No one would ever complain about having too much Magic Power during a battle. Furthermore, it was similarly an integrated offensive and defensive method, which perfectly aligned with Gauss’s usual philosophy. In terms of offense, [Splendid Light Ball] was far more proactive than [Blade Barrier] and could inflict damage at a much greater range.

Tier 6 Divination spell, [Find the Path].

This spell sounded rather ordinary, but upon closer inspection of its description, it was actually incredibly practical. Casting it required relying on special Casting mediums, such as cards, astrolabes, and other items. Once successfully cast, it could activate a prophecy, guiding the Caster to their desired destination within the same dimensional plane.

Tier 6 Transmutation spell, [Investiture of Flame].

It summons special flames to wreathe the body. During the Casting process, the Caster becomes completely immune to damage from Tier 6 and below Flame Magic. Damage from Flame Magic above Tier 6 will also be weakened, with the specific effects depending on the spell’s intensity. Unlike the numerous Protective methods Gauss had mastered and understood, the effects of [Investiture of Flame] were much simpler and more brutal. That was complete immunity to a specific type of Magic.

This meant that as long as the corresponding requirements were met, even if Gauss dispelled all his other Protective abilities—be it Armor, robes, or magical protections—an enemy’s Tier 6 or lower Flame Magic wouldn’t be able to inflict a single scratch on him. Even Flame Magic above Tier 6, spells of a higher level than this one, would be weakened. Once this spell was upcast to a higher tier, the corresponding immunity level would rise accordingly.

It was a spell with exceptionally prominent strengths and weaknesses. Its flaw, naturally, was its singular focus. It solely targeted fire-based abilities. If an attack fell outside this category—such as water, wind, lightning, poison, physical strikes, or corrosive methods—the spell offered absolutely no interference.
