I Am Not A Goblin Slayer
Chapter 958 - 468: Green Dragon Four Great Generals
The massive dragon bat planted its feet firmly on a giant tree trunk, speaking fluent Demon Race Common Tongue.
Opposite it, another Two-legged Flying Dragon, emerald green all over, lay coiled in a temporary nest. Its name was Wings of the Hurricane, Vexar.
"My children will force them back from the flanks.
"You only need to cooperate with me."
The Two-legged Flying Dragon raised its head slightly, its eyes full of disdain for the human Knight Order.
"Give me a break. If it weren’t for the children of my tribe holding the front line, do you really think those little brats of yours could cause such a commotion?"
The one speaking was a green-skinned Giant standing seven to eight meters tall. Its appearance was extremely ugly. If Gauss were here, he would recognize this as a goblin. Despite their massive racial differences, they were all speaking the same language at this moment.
This advanced common tongue had been popularized among higher Demons for thousands of years. Due to its learning difficulty and certain special reasons, ordinary Demons rarely mastered this complex language. However, some Commander-level Demons and almost all Demons of Extraordinary Level and above had specifically studied it.
The emergence of a unified language reduced friction between higher Demons to a certain extent and increased the possibility of full cooperation. After all, the prerequisite for cooperation was mutually comprehensible communication; they couldn’t just babble past one another in completely different languages.
Although to humans, the term "Demon" sounded like a monolithic faction, the internal situation among the monsters was far more complex than humans imagined, especially thousands of years ago. The differences in size and appearance between monsters were even greater than those between humans and monsters. Moreover, many monsters naturally preyed on each other. Back then, when various Demon Tribes fought, they wanted nothing more than to bash each other’s brains out. One might wipe out a tribe today, only to have their village destroyed the day after tomorrow. Various Lords constantly plundered each other’s resources and slaves, and their subordinate tribes would engage in armed brawls just to survive.
This lasted until the human threat gradually grew. The threat to their survival forced the various races to put aside their hatred and cooperate. At that time, a Heroic Lord also emerged among the Demons—the first-generation Demon King.
The first-generation Demon King used strength far surpassing that of ordinary Demon Lords to beat the major giant tribes into submission. He established the towering and majestic Demon King’s castle in the Southern Borders. From there, he paved roads, created a civilization, and spread their language, a legacy which continued to this day.
The powerful but previously disorganized and infighting Demon races united, becoming a major threat to the faction of intelligent civilizations led by humans.
"And what should we do about that human named Gauss?
"News has already come from the forest. He wiped out the small Dragon’s Nest in one fell swoop. If Lady Aiselas returns and finds out, she will likely fly into a towering rage.
"The spies from the Dragon Worship Sect have already sent word that Gauss just returned to the frontline camp."
Faced with the topic thrown out by the goblin leader Snaz, the Extraordinary Demon generals present all fell into a brief silence. It was unknown whether they were pondering specific countermeasures, or if the topic had their minds wandering, worrying about how to deal with their Green Dragon master.
As the Demons who interacted with the Green Dragon matriarch the most, they were incredibly clear about their master’s personality: insidious and cunning, yet irritable and prone to anger. Most importantly, she was incredibly vain and obsessed with saving face.
She might not care about the loss of those juvenile Dragon Lords. After all, at best, they merely hatched from dragon eggs she had obtained through theft or various other means. The resources invested in them were just a drop in the bucket compared to a True Dragon Lord. However, this incident itself might cause her to lose face in front of other Lords of the same Level—and that was very important.
As subordinates, they couldn’t remain indifferent when they knew the culprit had shown himself.
"This is likely a trap." Another Great General, the Skull-Crushing Troll Morga, grunted. Although his appearance was equally crude, he had a meticulous side hidden beneath his rough exterior. "Those two-legged sheep from the Dragon Worship Sect keep urging us to act, but for them to transmit this intelligence so quickly... I’m afraid those cunning humans intentionally leaked it to us.
"They are just waiting for us to send our subordinates to their deaths.
"The matriarch has been missing for so many days and still hasn’t returned. If our main forces suffer heavy losses, we won’t be able to escape punishment when the time comes."
The four speaking Demon Great Generals of the Green Dragon Army also respectively hailed from the major large tribes of the Green Dragon’s Dragon’s Nest faction: the hybrid tribe ruled by the Rot-Wing Dragon Bat; the Wyvern Legion and Flying Demon Legion under the Two-legged Flying Dragon; the Troll tribe with a large number of other Alien Race monster vassals; and the most numerous Goblin Tribe.
These Goblin Tribes were not the wild goblins in the forest—those were mere cannon fodder sent to the front lines to make up the numbers. These were the bona fide regular troops of the Green Dragon Army. Compared to ordinary goblins, they were much stronger, and their probability of advancing to become Elite Demons was much higher.
The massive population base of goblins also meant that almost every Great Lord possessed a massive, elite goblin Power under their command.
It could be said that the four Demons present stood at the absolute peak of the Extraordinary realm. Ordinary Extraordinary Demons wouldn’t even qualify to sit at this table.
But even so, when it came to Gauss and the Green Dragon matriarch, their attitudes appeared extremely cautious. Reckless Demons simply couldn’t survive to their age.
Despite the fierce fighting in this war that had lasted for over half a month, both the humans and the Demons seemed to share an unspoken understanding—neither side had truly gone all out.
