I Am Not A Goblin Slayer
Chapter 955 - 467: "Wish Machine
Gauss desperately wanted to glean something from this miraculous moment of suspended time. He hoped for an epiphany, perhaps a deeper understanding of time and space that he could internalize and make his own. However, he quickly gave up. It was a futile endeavor. This Power did not belong to him; he could barely sense its profound mysteries, let alone absorb it.
CRACK CRACK CRACK!
Black mist billowed from the stone statue as massive amounts of energy continued to flood into Gauss’s body. He could feel the Gold chains—or rather, the white egg—purifying the formidable, wicked, and chaotic Power. Had the surrounding space and time not been sealed by the Gold chains, the leakage of such immense energy would have instantly alarmed everyone nearby, sparking a massive uproar.
No wonder the Green Dragon Queen had brazenly placed this peculiar statue deep within the hatchling Dragon’s Nest. She likely realized just how troublesome the energy hidden inside it was. Perhaps she even harbored intentions of using the young dragons as test subjects. One must never mistake a Green Dragon for a principled superior. Even with a contract in place, she would only protect the hatchlings to a certain extent for the sake of the lucrative benefits they would bring once fully grown. Faced with more significant interests, she wouldn’t hesitate to play dirty behind their backs.
Gauss began to feel his body heat up. Soon after, a dense stream of notifications rapidly popped up on his status panel. The white egg had extended the Gold chains to siphon the statue’s energy, but it wasn’t a complete miser; it shared a portion of the energy with Gauss. This manifested as a steady increase in his Divine Factor.
"Gained Divine Factor: 0.01%"
"Gained Divine Factor: 0.01%"
...
An unknown amount of time passed.
The chains, shimmering with a Gold luster, retracted into his abdomen and returned to his body. The freed stone statue floated in the air for a brief moment before instantly disintegrating, as if a delay had finally ended. It turned into pale dust and dissipated into the air without a trace.
Deep within Gauss’s body, the white egg transmitted a sense of satisfaction, much like a starving refugee who had finally been treated to a lavish feast.
"Are you satisfied?" Gauss wondered. He knew the pure white egg residing inside him would undoubtedly sense his thoughts.
Sure enough, he quickly felt a vague, hazy consciousness respond. It seemed this energy absorption had been immensely helpful to the white egg, accelerating the cohesion of its autonomous consciousness.
"Satisfied?
"But, too little.
"I need more, and then I will give you more too," the white egg transmitted.
Sensing its cautious tone, Gauss couldn’t help but chuckle. Where was he supposed to find so many similar divine substances? Although divine materials were poison to most ordinary creatures, in this era where Gods rarely revealed themselves, anything related to the divine—whether righteous Gods or Evil Gods—held immense value. It wasn’t something Gauss could just find on a whim. This was exactly why he had hesitated earlier about keeping it for himself.
Yet this white egg fed directly on the Power of Gods. Did that imply its existence was of an incredibly high tier?
Even though he had long realized the white egg’s origins were extraordinary, Gauss didn’t feel much fear toward it. He wasn’t made of stone. Since it had entered his body, it hadn’t caused him any trouble—at least not yet. On the contrary, it had provided numerous conveniences and resolved several crises on his behalf. This incident was no exception. With Gauss’s current abilities, he was still helpless against such high-dimensional Power of the Gods. To be precise, this kind of Power was more of a hot potato. The white egg, however, could absorb it and convert it into a useful Divine Factor.
After this round of absorption, Gauss’s Divine Factor increased from 3.28% to 5.05%.
Having just breached the 5% threshold, this new milestone brought him a brand-new ability. Gauss could feel that he was now capable of triggering a lucky "Wish."
It sounded a bit baffling, but in his mind, he knew that as long as he focused on a specific task—whether using Magic in combat, meditating, reading, or learning Spells and new knowledge—he could utilize this lucky Power. The divine Power would bless him, pushing him to achieve his goal or maximize the outcome as much as possible.
Of course, the goal needed to be within the realm of possibility, or at least not stray too far beyond his current capabilities in the short term. For example, if Gauss made a Wish to immediately break through to the next Level on the spot, it wouldn’t work. However, it could help spark inspiration regarding his Profession or Magic. Perhaps, after being used dozens or even hundreds of times, it could ultimately facilitate a Level breakthrough.
Therefore, it could be understood as a hyper-simplified version of a wishing machine. Once used, it would enter a cooldown period and could only perform the next Wish after recovering.
Upon discovering this new ability born from reaching a 5% Divine Factor, a relentless stream of fresh ideas flooded Gauss’s mind. The most straightforward and crude approach would naturally be to Wish for a Level increase every single time, waiting for the cooldown to finish before repeating the process. He might not see significant changes after one or two attempts, but slowly but surely, it would add up and perhaps allow him to break through to a new Level. Even if he didn’t break through immediately, it would at least accelerate his Level progression.
