I Am Not A Goblin Slayer
Chapter 954 - 466: Ying in the High Sky
If Gods could intervene in the Material Realm at will, miracles in this world wouldn’t be as rare as they were now. Whether they were orthodox Gods, Evil Gods, or mind-beguiling Devils and Demons, they would all descend to display miracles for followers and Divine Power, turning the earth into their pasture and fighting for resources.
Therefore, the difficulty of destroying certain creations that might point to the Gods was not as demanding as one might imagine.
It could probably be done using the simplest means of physical destruction: smashing, burning, or dissolving with acid, depending entirely on the material of the creation. However, if he did that, he had no idea if it would trigger some special karmic connection; he might just end up being targeted by another Evil God.
Ultimately, Gauss decided to choose the safest third option: hand it over to the Adventurer’s Guild for processing. Handling it himself was not only too dangerous, but any mishandling could also endanger others.
Just as he made up his mind and prepared to carefully put the mysterious stone statue away to hand over to Guild President Matthias Monroe in a few days, the flow of time around him suddenly seemed to slow down.
Gauss was very familiar with this feeling. It was the state he entered when he activated his Future Sight ability. It was not that time had slowed down or been paused. Rather, his Spiritual World was thinking so fast that everything else seemed to fall into a standstill.
He wondered, "What happened?"
The sudden turn of events left Gauss momentarily stunned. He had not intentionally activated Future Sight.
He probed his Perception and soon realized that his powerful brain had entered an unusually excited state. It was running at high speed involuntarily, causing the world he perceived to fall into stillness. Tracing to the source, Gauss quickly found the "culprit": the white egg that had been hidden deep within his body for a long time, practically devoid of any presence.
Scenes of his interactions with the white egg flashed through Gauss’s mind.
That pure white egg had flown out of nowhere in a certain Black Forest and actively merged into his body. To this day, the scenes of that event were still vivid in Gauss’s mind; the entire forest had fallen into a riot. However, the white egg had fallen into a deep sleep back then. It wasn’t until he awakened the Racial Talent of his Iron Scale bloodline that it showed slight signs of waking up again.
Its next movement occurred when Gauss’s squad was executing a secret commission alongside the trio of Dwarf Sorin, Elton, and Nancy. When they passed through Rolling Stone Village, which had been cursed by a Demon, and killed the Demon’s kin, the white egg seemed to absorb a surge of energy.
"I wonder how that cursed village is doing now?"
Gauss’s thoughts inevitably drifted far away. Although he had killed that Demon’s kin at the time, he didn’t have the Power to resolve the deep-rooted curse entwined in the fate of the village’s residents. As time passed, the Demon’s kin on that land would surely make a comeback. Perhaps he would have a chance to go back and check on the current situation.
Gauss pulled back his wandering thoughts and focused on the white egg again.
Later, he and Sorin’s trio entered a desolate ruin. When facing the aura of the Evil God Laduguer, the white egg erupted with intense hunger. Ultimately, while erasing the Evil God’s aura, the white egg also devoured a massive amount of evil energy, which greatly benefited him and his teammates. It was also that experience that made Gauss firmly believe the white egg possessed an ability to promote biological evolution.
Afterward, the white egg helped him suppress the Dragon Beast Hephaestus, who was still an enemy at the time, and established a special connection using unknown golden chains.
The most recent occurrence was also the most obscure one. It was so obscure that he couldn’t even confirm whether it was the white egg’s doing.
That was a few days ago when his Intelligence broke through 21 points and he awakened his Future Sight ability. At that time, a wondrous Power of a higher dimension had first surged from within his body, eventually forming a special reaction that allowed him to master this time-like ability under powerful spiritual stimulation. It could be said that without its enlightenment and help, even if Gauss broke through 21 points and his Spiritual Power greatly improved, he might have only mastered some other special ability rather than a powerful ability involving time.
He wondered, "Could it be you?"
In truth, Gauss couldn’t be certain. After all, he harbored quite a few secrets. The Adventurer’s Handbook, the blessings of the twin Gods—Lake God Metera and Snow Mountain Spirit Aisweir—the fragments of world rules, the Dragon King Descendant bloodline... every single Power could potentially involve higher-dimensional forces.
However, among the many possibilities, Gauss had a vague feeling that the connection to the white egg seemed the strongest.
That was until the scene unfolding before his eyes.
He watched as the phantoms of nine Gold chains—the same ones once used to bind the Dragon Beast Hephaestus—pierced out from his abdomen. The instant the chains shot out, the time and space around Gauss seemed to freeze completely.
Gauss’s pupils slowly widened. Perhaps because he was a participant in this process, even if not the instigator, he could deeply feel its mystical nature. This freezing was not a stillness in the same sense as his Thought Acceleration. Compared to the freezing of space and time before him, he was merely scratching the surface of such Power at best.
It was as if he and the space around him had been forcibly extracted and separated from the vast world.
"Hephaestus, are you there? Eden?"
Whether it was Hephaestus, who shared Telepathy with him, or Eden, who could communicate via Spiritual Power, both were currently disconnected from Gauss.
The inside was the inside, and the outside was the outside; they formed two entirely distinct spaces. No external means could affect the interior of the space, and vice versa. Gauss seemed entirely isolated from the world.
CLANG CLANG CLANG—
Faintly, the sound of collisions echoed in Gauss’s ears; it was the noise produced by the clashing Gold chains. The nine Gold chains struck out together, binding the mysterious statue in front of Gauss with absolute Precision like giant pythons.
CLACK CLACK CLACK!
The Gold chains continuously coiled around it, ultimately tightening and binding the statue into an airtight sphere of Gold chains. Wisps of energy flowed against the current along the chains, surging into Gauss’s body.
Gauss first felt a burst of icy coldness, followed by a familiar energy.
Divine Factor!
Sure enough, he knew the entity behind this would more than likely be inextricably linked to the Gods.
Meanwhile, in the outer Domain beyond the world, the vast territories had long been transformed into the dwellings of the celestial Gods. Within a certain Divine Country, a majestic divine body slowly awakened.
For an existence like Him, time had already lost all meaning within His own Divine Country. His immense divine consciousness seemed to sense something, casting His gaze toward a particular location outside the Divine Country.
Within an extremely active giant bubble, He seemed to have detected a Power that made His heart palpitate. But immediately after, He fell into a rare state of confusion. That trace of trepidation lasted only a fleeting moment before vanishing without a trace.
He raised a claw and seemed to gently slash the void in front of Him. The flow of time within the Divine Country began to reverse. Deities possessed near-absolute authority within their own Divine Country; they could even effortlessly reshape the rules according to their will. And naturally, this included the control over time.
"It vanished?" He wondered.
Yet, even though the God unleashed His mighty Power to reverse the flow of time within the Divine Country in an attempt to trace back that instantaneous, bizarre palpitation, He still found nothing.
Did it involve too much of the Material Realm’s origin, rendering His Divine Power useless? Or did it involve the Power of those particular entities?
Faced with such a rare situation, even a God would be bewildered. He indeed found it difficult to exert too strong an influence on the Material Realm. However, something like this almost barbaric deprivation of any related divine perception... He had likely not experienced anything like it for millions of years, if measured by the Material Realm’s time.
But whichever it was, it clearly cut off His avenues for further pursuit.
The former was a restricted zone for Gods. As for the latter, based on what He knew, the existences capable of achieving such a feat numbered only a handful. And any single one of them pulled out at random would be a supreme existence capable of dragging Him out of His Divine Country and swallowing Him alive.
Therefore, even though He realized that some important karmic event closely related to Him must have occurred, He still had to suppress any further thoughts.
Any thoughts related to this were completely stripped from His divine perception at this moment. Whether in His past, present, or future, they left behind absolutely no trace.
