Chapter 707: Have You Seen the Deepest Darkness?

Blood was something that would trigger Black Crow’s malice, but Gao Ming was not scared. He wasn’t worried that the crazed Black Crow would dismember him.

“Blood?” Black Crow reached for the blade on the table. “Is this your new medicine?”

“I’m uncertain about the effect, but you can give it a try.”

Gao Ming tightened his fingers, and his blood flowed into a vial.

Black Crow’s rationality was shredded. He threw caution to the wind and picked up the vial to drink.

Black Crow didn’t feel anything at first. About a minute later, his heart suddenly sped up. It felt like his chest was about to explode. Black Crow collapsed to the ground. He felt like he had swallowed a long vine. The thorns cut through his organs. The malice from his heart entangled with the power of blood. Black Crow tore open his clothes. If possible, he wanted to cut open his skin. Hearing the commotion, the woman in the nurse’s outfit came to knock on the door. However, without Black Crow’s permission, she was not allowed entry. A few seconds later, the woman appeared to have come to a decision. There was a loud thud. The axe fell on the reinforced door. The woman swung the axe repeatedly. She wanted to confirm Black Crow’s safety.

The woman eventually knocked down the door. When she came in with the axe, Black Crow had stopped acting crazy. His body was covered in wounds.

“What did you feed him?” The woman aimed the axe at Gao Ming. “You better pray that he’s fine or you’ll experience true hell.”

“You seem to care about him.” Gao Ming felt like this woman was unlike the other locals. The woman guarded the door and refused to engage Gao Ming.

After a long time, Black Crow climbed up from the ground. He tossed away the ruined clothes to expose his scarred body. “I have to speak to the client. Go and guard the door. Don’t make me repeat myself.”

“You’re one heartless bastard. I hope you die outside,” The woman cursed. When she was sure Black Crow was fine, she slammed the door and left. After the woman’s footsteps disappeared, Black Crow put on a different expression. His tense nerves finally had the chance to relax as he sat on the couch. “Your medicine is very effective. I’ve never felt as relaxed as I am now. However, it has a fatal weakness.”

“Oh? What weakness?” Gao Ming was intrigued.

“It is too effective. Zhu Chuan’s medicine is effective for three days. As you consume more of them, the period of effectiveness shortens until you have to take it every few hours or you’ll be consumed by malice!” Black Crow sounded a lot friendlier. After he drank Gao Ming’s blood, he was certain they came from the same place.

“How is too effective a weakness?” Gao Ming was speechless.

“Zhu Chuan’s medicine can only temporarily suppress the malice, and it will return with vengeance. Your medicine neutralises the malice and helps the patients regain their true selves. This is too dangerous because it challenges the city and its rules.” Black Crow was with the night police. He knew more about the dangers of the city than Gao Ming.

“That was not my intention.”

Black Crow pulled out the blade and studied its shine. “Thirteen streets are delineated into clear levels. The dirtier the better. This city is used to cultivate darkness. The meaning of its existence is to locate the deepest darkness.” Black Crow felt the vibration of the blade as he touched it. “And you want to chase away the pain to find humanity in the darkness. Aren’t you taunting the city?” Black Crow put down the knife and tried to suppress the urge to kill. “Everyone in this city has a seed of darkness in their heart. We cannot dig out all the seeds, and you don’t have that much blood. To end everything, the only way is to find the deepest darkness.”

“What is that and where is it hidden?”

“I don’t know. My memory only tells me to interact with the darkness, but it doesn’t tell me what it is.” Black Crow walked to Gao Ming. “Anyway, your medicine is too powerful, and the process of using it is too painful. You need to weaken it by 100 times.”

“I don’t know anything about pharmacy or medicine. I don’t think…”

“It’s fine. That’s Zhu Chuan’s forte.” Black Crow looked dark and solemn. “With the recent conflict between Zhu Chuan and Wan Sheng, the people are already itching for a fight. It’s the bosses who have been holding things back. If we can escalate the conflict, I have confidence we can steal some supplies and talent from Zhu Chuan.”

“Escalate the conflict?” Gao Ming took out the edited video. “This should help you. Bring it back to the night police station, and you should be rewarded.”

Black Crow felt a chill run up his spine when he saw the video. “You killed that woman?! Is this part of your plan?”

“Hei Ao is the killer. You saw it in the video. It has nothing to do with me.” Gao Ming shrugged. “I’ll give you the video. However, before that, I think you should do something else.”

“What is it?” Black Crow put away the drive.

“The old man at the station hates you. With him there, you can’t do much.” Gao Ming’s words caused Black Crow to pause.

“There’s nothing I can do. There are rules within the night police. If he dies, he has to die to the monsters or mad people.” Black Crow shared a look with Gao Ming and started to plan. At noon, Black Crow sent Gao Ming out of Gan Shui Alley.

“Can the woman at the clinic be trusted? She is not one of us.” Gao Ming kept his head lowered. He whispered softly.

“In my memory, she is the only person in this city whom I can trust.”

“Are you lovers?”

“She is my captive, someone I have hidden away.” Black Crow appeared to wear a mask made from frost. “Her sin is being too beautiful and pure. Her heart is so clean that darkness doesn’t have the space to grow.”

“She wanted to kill me when she first saw me.” Gao Ming couldn’t tie the woman to qualities like purity and innocence.

Black Crow knocked on his brain and said thoughtfully, “That was her crime. Plus, she gives me a feeling that is different from the other locals.”
