Chapter 705: Black and White
After witnessing three robberies on the bus, Gao Ming successfully reached the nearest night police station. It was an inconspicuous three-storey building, hidden in a dirty alley. It was like a nail in the poor district. Before he got close, Gao Ming was assaulted by the smell of disinfectant. The streets and walls outside the building had just been cleaned. There were still lingering bloodstains at the corners. Gao Ming studied the alley, which looked normal during the day. At night, the street would be filled with night police transferring cases of dismembered patients.
“Hey! Are you here to deliver the city security fee?” A thin old man opened the small window in the building. “It’s rare to see such an understanding citizen. Normally, they wait until the second night to come bearing the money. The fee is to protect the citizens. Why can’t they see that?”
“Sir, is this station responsible for this area?” Gao Ming was there just to look for someone.
“Why do you want to know?”
“An officer dropped something important last time. I have to give it to him in person. Can you help me find the officer who gave me this notice?” Gao Ming showed the old man the invoice and a branded watch that he ‘found’ at Hao Jue.
“Give me the thing. I’ll hand it to him.”
“I have to give them to him in person.” Gao Ming showed a string of pearls. He didn’t get beaten for no reason.
“I can’t help you… Unless you have prepared another set of donations. You will insert it into the middle drawer of the third cupboard at the post office before 5.30 pm.” The old man was asking for a bribe. Gao Ming didn’t have so much money. He cursed the old man internally, but he agreed on the surface.
“You must know the consequences of lying to the night police.”
“I do.”
“Come in.” The old man opened a small door to the side. Unlike the outside, the station's interior looked like a combination of a hospital and a prison. The place had clean surgical tables and sturdy cages.

Gender Queer: a Memoir
“Where is everyone? Get someone to handle our guest!” The old man held authority at the station. Two workers hurried over. They were very lovely to Gao Ming. The old man took the necklace and the watch from Gao Ming before leaving.
“Are you also night police officers?” Gao Ming took out the notice and asked.
The two quickly shook their hands. “Not everyone can join the night police. You have to pass strenuous exams. We do not fit the requirement.”
The worker looked over the files. “The patient who assaulted you at Dog Street had a level 11 danger rating. Have you brought enough money?”
“I must pay 110,000 because the danger rating is level 11?!” The two workers looked unfazed as if this was common knowledge. Gao Ming started to rummage through his pocket. Even with the watch and necklace, Gao Ming didn’t have that much money. Therefore, he moved glacially. The old man said he’d look for the officer for Gao Ming, but he appeared to have disappeared.
“Do you have enough money on you?” The workers’ faces shifted. They lowered their voices dangerously. “The station is not a place anyone can visit. If you don’t have the money, you’ll find it very difficult to leave this place.”
…
Bai Xiao’s eyes were red as he threw away the stained pipe. Ever since he entered the altar world, he hadn’t gotten the chance to rest. This world was filled with malice. Everyone was like a beast. Humanity was spat on. The city was like a rotten piece of meat. He washed his hands many times, but he couldn’t clean them. Bai Xiao looked at the disinfected black raincoat, and he thought about the incident from the day before. After he entered the altar, he possessed the body of a night police officer who was about to lose control. With a superhuman constitution, he suppressed the malice in his heart. However, something happened that caused him almost to lose control.
The streets were abnormally quiet after midnight. The oldest officer in the station was bored. He opened a cage and injected something into the patients. He then chased them out into the streets like animals. With the host’s memory, Bai Xiao knew this was not an isolated incident. The monsters that wandered the streets at night were actually humans!
Without medicine and money, they were turned into monsters. Their humanity was taken away.
“The night police released the monsters so they could slaughter them at night. Everyone knows about this and no one thinks that’s a problem.” Bai Xiao’s heart started to fester with black lines. They crawled towards his eyes. Bai Xiao pulled out a blade and aimed it at his eye. Murderous intent collided with evil intent. He wanted to pierce his skull to dig out the malice.
“Little Black, someone’s looking for you.” The elder entered the backyard as he admired the luxury watch. He was shocked by Bai Xiao. “The fuck! What are you doing?” The old man snatched the blade and asked with confusion, “Haven’t you just taken the medicine two days ago? Are you losing control?”
“I’m fine.” Bai Xiao didn’t hide his distaste for the old man. His name was Ol Qiu. He was the station’s manager. Bai Xiao’s host had been fighting for the old man’s position, but he failed. Bai Xiao suspected the old man was responsible for the host’s madness.
“Don’t look at me with such hostility. We’re colleagues.” The old man smiled at Bai Xiao. “Black Crow, did you drop something at Dog Street last night? Someone came looking for you to return them to you.”
“I didn’t drop anything.”
“Then someone else on your team did. The man is outside. Bring your people and handle it.” The old man was not surprised by Bai Xiao’s strange behaviour. He appeared to be in a good mood. He hummed a happy tune as he walked away with the watch.
“Old bastard.” Bai Xiao cursed under his breath. His host’s codename was Black Crow. His team used to have six officers. His team was the strongest in this station. Due to Ol Qiu’s scheming, only three remained.
Bai Xiao walked into the lobby. He just wanted to get things dealt with ,but when he saw the man at the front desk, a hand gripped his chest.
“Who is he?”
Bai Xiao studied the man. He looked about forty. He was thin and weak. His clothes were cheap. He kept pulling money out of his pocket, but his speed became slower and slower.
“The malice inside me has quieted down. Is he… an ally?”
Bai Xiao coughed and walked towards the reception.
The man smiled when he saw Bai Xiao. He passionately waved at Bai Xiao.
“Hi. My name is Lee Sansi.”
