Chapter 2302: Chapter 1916: Colored Glasses_2
But here, it has everything it wants, and its goose brothers are right by its side!
At this moment, as it’s being cuddled and rubbed by Song Tan, it lets out a low "woof," raises its neck high to show off its lacy bib, and finally retreats contentedly with its brothers after receiving yet another compliment.
Meanwhile, Chen Xi quickly grabs a dry towel, motioning for the two of them to wipe off the mud and water from their bodies.
But Song Tan is already accustomed to it, so she just washes her hands and asks,
"Have you seen Liubao go to the lotus pond recently?"
Huh?
Chen Xi is stunned and frowns slightly: "Actually, yes, it loves to burrow in there. I suspect it might be stealing lotus pods, but I haven’t seen any shattered lotus pods."
He has a lot to do every day and can’t keep an eye on Liubao all the time, so the matter was left unresolved.
Now that Song Tan brings it up, it’s clear she’s discovered something.
Chen Xi says seriously, "Have a lot of lotus pods been stolen?"
"Not quite."
Song Tan replies, "A guest who came fishing today used our bait and ended up catching ten big dragon prawns."
The prawns were really impressive. Lun Jing showed her a video, and if they hadn’t been caught by someone else, she would have wanted to cook them for dinner herself.
The prawns have only been raised for two months, yet they’re so robust!
Chen Xi was also taken aback, and after a while, he hesitantly said,
"We shouldn’t wrongly accuse the dog. Maybe the prawns dug the holes themselves."
Chen Chi, having finished cleaning up, gathered his courage and said, "Boss lady, you shouldn’t judge the dog with bias."
Song Tan: ... Technically, no, but Liubao has so many previous offenses!
She pondered for a moment and instructed Chen Xi, "Isn’t there surveillance near the lotus pond? Now that it’s not raining, adjust the camera a bit to look towards the ditch."
Wait a minute!
She suddenly realized, "Why didn’t I see Liubao just now? Has it already gone out?"
"Not necessarily," Chen Xi replied seriously, "sometimes it goes to the reed swamp to steal duck eggs."
There are always ducks laying eggs willy-nilly, and those missed ones mostly end up benefiting it.
Why else do none of the other local dogs look as sleek and well-fed as it does? Because this guy knows how to eat!
Song Tan: ... Fine.
If it were back in the day when the family wasn’t well-off, and this dog stole duck eggs, wouldn’t it have gotten a good beating!
She sighed, "Let’s go, to the lotus pond first."
As for the duck eggs, if the ducks lay them in other places in the reed swamp and they’re not retrieved that day, soaked in water and rained on, they can’t be preserved. Let it eat them.
She knows full well that scattered duck eggs in the reed swamp are up for grabs, and the dogs love to roam in there.
Leading the way, the group quickly followed her.
Rain was falling, making the surroundings of the lotus pond even darker, raindrops pattering on the lotus leaves, and the lotus swaying.
Yet, because of the sound of the rain and leaves, their movement was less noticeable.
Thus, Liubao’s sleek, shiny coat was especially conspicuous among the greenery, even in the dim light.
Song Tan stopped in her tracks.
At that moment, Liubao watched intently from the shore for a bit, then, choosing the right angle, jumped directly into the water and submerged, bustling about underwater.
Soon, it emerged with a prawn in its mouth.
But this one wasn’t enough to satisfy its appetite, so it plunged back into the water again.
Before long, it caught another one.
And then another!
A full three in total.
But by this time, the first one placed on the shore was already scuttling away, pincers waving, and by the time Liubao came ashore and vigorously shook the water off its body, it had already dived back into the river.
Liubao watched silently for a while.
It still wasn’t good at counting; from its expression, Song Tan couldn’t quite tell if it understood the situation or if it was just numb from the recurring event.
Now, everyone stood watching as it skillfully carried the remaining two, hid its head under a lotus leaf to shelter from the rain, crunching away.
Everyone: "..."
No wonder those tinted glasses, they really are justified, huh!
Song Tan gritted her teeth and shouted in a low voice, "Liu! Bao!"
The dog hiding under the lotus leaves jumped up with a startled "yelp," and then crazily ran around the edge of the lotus pond. The shaking leaves above spilled their pooled water down on it, soaking Liubao all over again.
