Hello, Comrade. I'm Here to Marry You!
Chapter 315: Wanting to Have a Baby
Su Zhaozhao leaned into Xie Huaizheng’s arms, listening to the steady rhythm of his heart. But she still felt on the verge of collapse.
’No, that wasn’t it. She didn’t know how to explain it to Xie Huaizheng.’
’She might really go back to the real world, and at any random moment.’
’After all, her arrival here had been just as baffling.’
’So her return would probably be just as sudden.’
’But she had no idea how to explain any of this to Xie Huaizheng. It was all so irrational.’
In the end, all she could do was press herself into Xie Huaizheng’s arms, curling up tightly in his embrace.
"Huai Zheng, what if I have to leave you one day?" Su Zhaozhao asked cautiously after managing to compose herself.
Hearing her words, Xie Huaizheng’s heart seized. He wrapped his arms around Su Zhaozhao, pulling her tightly into his embrace. The force of his grip was so strong it nearly took her breath away.
His deep voice rumbled by her ear, "Zhaozhao, don’t even think about it. Even if you go to the ends of the earth, I’ll still find you."
Hearing the worry in his voice, Su Zhaozhao quickly managed a smile. "Don’t worry, Huai Zheng, I won’t leave you. But in my nightmare, the heavens themselves tore us apart, and I didn’t know what to do..."
As she spoke, a note of grievance crept into her voice.
"They say dreams mean the opposite, Zhaozhao. Don’t worry," Xie Huaizheng soothed her.
’What kind of nightmare could it have been to scare a girl as bold as her so badly?’
Xie Huaizheng couldn’t help but wonder, ’Am I not showing her enough care on a daily basis?’
’Otherwise, why would she have a dream like this?’
’They say you dream at night what you think of by day. Her current state was probably because she’d been dwelling on these things, wasn’t it?’
’Looks like I’ll have to be twice as good to Zhaozhao from now on.’
They held each other on the bed for a while longer before Su Zhaozhao gently pushed him away to get up and wash.
She glanced at the time—it was already almost eleven.
"What do we do? We made plans with Grandpa and Grandma yesterday."
"It’s fine. I already called them. I told them you were tired and needed to rest, and that we’d meet up with them this afternoon. I had a friend of mine take them sightseeing this morning."
"Okay."
Su Zhaozhao breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed she never had to worry when Xie Huaizheng was handling things.
After they ate, Xie Huaizheng confirmed several times that Su Zhaozhao was feeling alright before they left to meet up with the Xu Family.
They visited a few more attractions and had dinner. Afterward, Su Zhaozhao went back to the hotel to chat with the Xu Family for a while before she left.
They were heading home the next day, and it would likely be at least six months before they could see each other again.
After all, transportation wasn’t very convenient these days, so meeting up wasn’t a simple matter.
While Su Zhaozhao spoke with Li Chunhong and Xu Yingmin, Xie Huaizheng was in the other room talking with her uncle.
Li Chunhong held Su Zhaozhao’s hand and said to her, "Zhaozhao, Little Xie is a good man. You can tell just by how he’s taken care of us. It’s because he loves and cherishes you that he’s so considerate and thoughtful toward us, too. You and Little Xie need to live a good life together, you hear? If you have any disagreements, you work them out properly. Don’t you ever go throwing the word ’divorce’ around."
Su Zhaozhao nodded. "I know, Grandma. I’d never say something like that. Don’t worry."
Su Zhaozhao pressed her cheek into Li Chunhong’s palm and nuzzled it affectionately.
’She couldn’t bear to part with Li Chunhong either.’
’They were her only family in this world.’
"Mm. But if he ever bullies you, you come find us. We won’t let him get away with it."
"Okay," Su Zhaozhao said with a smile.
Meanwhile, her uncle’s conversation with Xie Huaizheng was much the same: he spoke of the hardships Su Zhaozhao had faced and asked Xie Huaizheng to take good care of her in the future.
Xie Huaizheng agreed to it all.
After they left the hotel, Su Zhaozhao looked at Xie Huaizheng. "Honey, you’re so wonderful. My grandparents couldn’t stop praising you."
Xie Huaizheng’s thin lips curved into a slight smile. He was clearly pleased by the praise, but he still cleared his throat and said with a straight face, "It was nothing special. You’re my wife, so it’s my duty to take care of them. No praise necessary."
But Su Zhaozhao saw the flash of pleasure on his face before he quickly suppressed it.
’She had to admit, Xie Huaizheng really took his role as her husband seriously.’
She started to laugh. "What do you mean, no praise necessary? When you do something well, you deserve to be praised!"
"Yes, yes, whatever Zhaozhao says is right," he relented. "So, shall we go for another stroll through the night market?"
"Okay," Su Zhaozhao nodded.
They walked hand in hand down the bustling street, which was lined with stalls selling snacks. Su Zhaozhao ordered several different things to try, but after taking just a couple of bites of each, she’d pass the rest to Xie Huaizheng to finish.
’This was the perfect arrangement,’ she thought. ’She could try everything she wanted without wasting a single bite.’
Back at their place, after they had both washed up, Su Zhaozhao lay in bed. A thought suddenly occurred to her, and she said to Xie Huaizheng, "Honey, what if we had a baby?"
Xie Huaizheng had just come out from washing up. When he heard her words, his eyes widened, and his usually calm expression began to crack.
"What did you say?"
’But just two days ago, Zhaozhao had told her grandmother she wasn’t in a hurry to have children. Why the sudden change of heart?’
"I was just thinking... if we had a child, things would be a lot livelier."
’The truth was, Su Zhaozhao was thinking about how she could be transported back to the real world at any moment. If that happened, if she disappeared from Xie Huaizheng’s world, he would probably go insane, right?’
’But she had no idea how to say any of this to him.’
’If she had a child to leave behind with him, maybe he wouldn’t be so devastated.’
The memory of how she had returned to her reality just by falling asleep last night filled Su Zhaozhao with worry.
’Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.’ Su Zhaozhao was terrified that day would actually come.
’If she really disappeared, Xie Huaizheng would lose his mind, wouldn’t he?’
But Xie Huaizheng refused her. He walked over to Su Zhaozhao and looked at her with a serious, earnest expression. "Zhaozhao, I’m not ready to be a father just yet. And you’re still young. We can wait a couple of years before having a child."
"Is that how you feel, too?"
"I’ve always felt this way." Xie Huaizheng moved closer, cradling her small, palm-sized face and pressing a kiss to her lips.
A profound light glinted in his jet-black eyes.
"But, speaking of which," he said, "it has been a few days since we’ve... been intimate."
As he spoke, his voice grew husky.
’Su Zhaozhao’s sudden suggestion to have a child had, in fact, reminded him of this.’
