The restored bells did not make the Sunken Belfry peaceful.

Darkness still moved beneath the lower gates, and the foreign note from below returned twice while the party crossed back into the inhabited district. Each answer made the Sairren look toward the sealed routes beneath their city.

The upper plazas were safe. Nothing deeper had been cleared.

Martin considered that enough for one expedition.

Mireva appeared to agree. She ordered the lower passages sealed, doubled the watch around the original bell, and refused to discuss another descent until every injured Sairren had been found.

Katherine and Kinnami joined the healers. The golden spirit moved from one patient to another while Katherine used the barriers to brace injured wings without pinning their membranes.

Kumoe’s middle head added restoration whenever someone came within reach. Her curious sister inspected every bandage, while the right watched the Sairren healers and copied the angle at which they held each damaged limb.

Angel settled beside a broken fountain and lowered her shell so three exhausted Sairren children could sit on its edge. She endured their attention with great dignity until one offered her a polished bronze cup.

Angel swallowed it.

The child stared at the empty hand.

Martin closed his eyes. "That wasn’t food."

Angel looked toward the fountain as though the cup had vanished for unrelated reasons.

"We’ll replace it."

Mireva’s ears twitched. "It belonged to the public well."

"Then I’ll replace it publicly."

That seemed to satisfy her, though the faint movement at the corner of her mouth suggested the damage to his dignity would remain part of the payment.

The system waited until the injured were stable before presenting the expedition results.

[The Bell That Learned to Lie completed.]

[Hunter of the Dark Force: First Hunt Complete.]

[Kill Clause identified a foreign Dark Force influence, traced its directing resonance, refused the offered dominion, and destroyed the corrupted source.]

[Progression Path Advanced: Hunter of the Dark Force, Initiate Stage.]

[Current Class Retained: Ranger.]

[Current Level Retained: 44.]

Cassandra read every line before dismissing the window.

No class evolution followed. Her Nightglass Longbow remained in her hands, and the Ranger skills she had entered with remained unchanged. The path had recognized her first hunt without pretending one correct decision had completed it.

Elisebeth received a shorter notice.

[Original Spell Confirmed: Silent Stage.]

[Mana Shield and Arcane Bolt may now be combined into Silent Stage without repeating the original discovery process.]

[Silent Stage has been retained in your permanent Spellweaver repertoire.]

Orange-white threads moved across NukEncore’s fingers as she opened the spell entry. "It kept the name."

Alexandra glanced at her. "You chose a good one this time."

"I always choose good names. The system occasionally lacks taste."

"Shepherd’s Crown."

Elisebeth closed the spell window. "We are discussing Silent Stage."

Martin let them continue while he checked Worldshell. The new arm plates remained solid, and Unyielding Grip occupied its own place beneath the armor’s traits. His shoulders still ached from holding the Cantor’s strikes, proving that the skill had protected his grip rather than making him immune to consequences.

Rias approached Mireva with the Crucible Concord token visible in her open palm.

"This recorded the fighting and the corruption," Rias said. "I can preserve evidence that the monsters attacked your people and that the foreign conductor altered the bells. I won’t submit the location, your citizens’ names, or a route into the Belfry without your consent."

Mireva studied the token. "Record what happened to our bells. Record that your party fought the monsters after refusing the objective against us. The route and our children remain ours."

Rias opened the evidence settings where Mireva could see them. She removed every coordinate, hid the Sairren names, and sealed the original recording behind a consent restriction before submitting the redacted record.

Cassandra watched without approaching the token.

The evidence included her refusal of the Cantor’s core and the arrows she had used to separate Dark Force from Sairren resonance. It would become one fact attached to Kill Clause, not a declaration that Cassandra Selfmore had repaired everything.

Rias closed the record. "This proves what you did here. Nothing more."

"Nothing more is what I earned," Cassandra replied.

Alexandra had been listening from beside Kumoe. She walked over and examined the shallow damage along Cassandra’s shoulder guard.

"Your equipment survived, Cass."

Cassandra looked at her, but this time she did not correct the name.

Elisebeth noticed first. "You rejected Cass earlier. I called you Cassie long before she did."

"Cassie remains unacceptable," Cassandra said.

Alexandra’s smile widened. "But Cass?"

Cassandra adjusted the damaged shoulder guard. "I did not object."

Katherine turned away under the pretense of checking Kinnami’s barrier, though her shoulders moved with a quiet laugh.

Mireva saved Cassandra from replying by gathering them near the upper gate.

"Some of our people want to see the surface," the route-warden said. "Others believe one safe group proves nothing. We will not move the Belfry or empty our homes for your promise."

"You shouldn’t," Martin said.

Mireva inclined her head. "A small delegation will inspect the route with me. We will decide what comes after we return."

No quest window asked Martin to approve their decision. The absence felt appropriate.

Three wardens joined Mireva after the healers cleared them to travel. The party escorted the delegation through the restored upper district, across the first plaza, and back to the enormous doors hidden in the cliff.

When the doors opened, afternoon wind entered the Sunken Belfry.

Mireva stopped at the threshold. Open air lifted her blue-black hair and filled the folded membranes beneath her arms. She spread both wings slowly, testing a current no route-song had shaped for her.

The other wardens remained close to the doorway while she stepped into Slatewind Basin.

"We are inspecting," Mireva said. "We have not agreed to leave our city."

"Your choice," Martin replied.

Cassandra stepped beside him and took his hand. Her fingers settled between his with more confidence than they had in the penthouse.

"Alexandra claimed your first real-world date," she said.

Alexandra immediately looked over. "I did."

"I have no intention of taking it from you." Cassandra kept her attention on Martin. "I want the date after hers."

Katherine rejoined them with Kinnami circling her shoulders. "You joined the harem and immediately requested a place on his calendar."

"I asked," Cassandra said. "There is a difference."

Martin blinked. Of all the things waiting beyond the dungeon, he had not expected Cassandra to schedule herself into his life while they were still covered in bronze dust.

Her mouth curved. "I accepted the conditions. I see no reason to remain passive afterward."

"I’d like that," Martin said. "We’ll choose yours after Alex and I set ours."

Alexandra folded her arms, considered Cassandra for a moment, then smiled. "You’re learning quickly, Cass."

This time, Cassandra answered without hesitation. "I have always learned quickly."

Before Alexandra could turn it into another competition, the Unanswered Bell Fragment pulsed inside Cassandra’s inventory.

She released Martin’s hand and drew it out.

At the same moment, something clicked inside Rias’s sealed evidence container.

The foreign conductor pin was striking the wall of the container in time with the fragment. Rias widened the evidence ward around Cassandra’s hand, then opened an inspection layer without breaking the seal. The fragment showed only a quarantined copy of what appeared inside.

Black borders folded around a new system panel.

[Foreign Conductor: Secondary Network Function Identified.]

[Contact Seal Access History: Beastslayer Procurement.]

[Connected Services: Shadow Contracts | Hidden Shelters | Unlicensed Trade.]

[Guest Preview: Read Only.]

"Do not answer anything," Rias said.

"I won’t."

The preview lasted only seconds.

Black-bordered listings moved across the fragment. An unlicensed forge offered repairs to players with active bounties. A hidden merchant sold access to an outlaw shelter. A contract broker requested academy patrol schedules. Another listing offered restricted class materials without origin records.

Then one request stopped beneath Cassandra’s fingers.

[Restricted Procurement Request]

[Required Materials: Live-Bond Blood | High-Density Blue Catalyst.]

[Buyer Identity: Broker Protected.]

Cassandra’s expression hardened. "Those are the materials needed to reproduce Just Die’s maximum-bond formula."

Rias read the access history twice. "That confirms Beastslayer access to this market. It does not prove who placed this order or who installed the conductor."

Mireva’s wings drew close to her back. "Can this market see our city?"

"Nothing was transmitted through this inspection," Rias said. "I can’t tell you what the conductor transmitted before we removed it or what its installer already knew."

"Then do not let it learn more," Mireva said.

"Agreed."

Martin stared at the multiplying windows. "This is the underworld Just Die entered."

"One part of it," Cassandra said. "The Beastslayers didn’t build this market. They joined one that was already waiting for them."

The preview closed.

[Recovered Contact Seal Retained.]

[Broker Invitation Available.]

One final prompt waited behind the evidence seal, mirrored across the fragment but beyond Cassandra’s touch.

[Declare your trade.]

Cassandra left the invitation unopened.
