Chapter 2597: Struggle For Control.

The fat worm took control of the virtual body and turned it against them. The virtual body successfully fused with the authority of slavery, but now the authority of slavery wants to kill them.

The fat black worm used the power of the virtual body to jump into the Mindscape in pursuit of them. Since the virtual body was still linked to them, the fat worm was able to easily find them. Then it jumped into their mind.

None of their defenses has been able to black the fat worm. It behaved as if none of their defenses were there. This reminded them of how the repelling barrier around the Crown of Nobility had ignored them after they gained control of it.

But what was surprising and different about their current experience is that the fat worm hasn’t enslaved them yet. What the fat worm enslaved was only the virtual body. But even the fact that the fat worm enslaved their virtual body so easily was enough to baffle them.

Legion-1 asked the others, “What the heck is going on?”

They had just asked themselves this question before they were attacked by the fat worm.

The fat worm began to absorb their energy through the virtual body and was using it to multiply in their minds. Its fat body split apart into multiple copies, and the copies of the world began forcefully fusing with their existence.

The fat worm was very aggressive with what it was doing. The worms surged into every area of their minds and then surged into their body. Then the fat worms fused with every part of their existence that it touched.

Every part of their existence that the fat worms fused with turned black. So it was as if a fountain of black water had suddenly appeared in their minds, with the black water trying to submerge their existence.

At this point, Legion had its answer to what was going on. The answer was that the fat worm was trying to enslave them. They also discovered that the fat worm had a good chance of enslaving them.

The fat worm was using a weird method to enslave them. It was infecting their existence and corroding it. Then it devoured the part of their existence that was corroded and turned it against them, so their normal methods couldn’t work against it.

The fat worms in their existence were disabling every part of their existence they touched as soon as they touched it. It also acted more like a part of their existence, not a foreign body, so there was very little they could do to stop it because they couldn’t attack themselves.

What’s more, even if they could attack it, it could always heal itself by siphoning their divine energy. As something that was a part of their existence, it had full access to their divine energy, which it is using to multiply rapidly.

The only way for them to resist was to have a powerful body and a powerful mind to slow down the spread and progress of the fat worms. But this wasn’t going to work for much longer.

A strong body would only delay the fat worms. The fat worms were unstoppable, so they would eventually devour their minds and bodies. Then they will try to devour their souls too.

It didn’t take them long to get to this terrifying conclusion. And if this terrifying conclusion wasn’t enough for them to take the fat worms seriously, then the fact that their Danger Sense divine ability was constantly pinging to inform them of an existential crisis was more than enough for them to panic.

The kind of danger they were facing was unprecedented. Not only was their true body in danger of dying, but they also didn’t have any means to deal with the fat worms.

In order to separate from the fat worms, they activated the rank 9 Phantom Escape divine ability of the pathway of undying. The divine ability was activated and turned their existence into a phantom state where they became mostly intangible and invulnerable to attacks.

They expected this move to work, but it didn’t. Only the parts of their existence that hadn’t been converted by the fat worms turned intangible. The other part of their existence that the worms had corroded refused to become intangible.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, this black corroded part of their existence was still making progress in corroding the intangible parts of their existence. It was slowly corroding the intangible part and turning it black and tangible again.

With this kind of result, Legion stopped holding back. They used the ultimate ability of the pathway of undying. They activated the Invulnerable ultimate ability.

The Invulnerable ultimate ability separated them from external influences. Even the influence of gravity stopped having an effect on them.

The boundaries of dimensions also stopped working on them. They became separated by everything in existence, including the fat worms and the blackened area of their existence that had been corroded.

Usually, when they use the Invulnerability ultimate ability, their existence would be whole and complete. But this time, it was as if something or someone had taken a bite out of them.

There were missing parts of their mind and body. This missing part has separated from them and was standing alone.

About 30% of their existence had been corroded. Missing this much of their existence wasn’t enough to kill them, but it was able to give them a headache. They were able to clearly see just how much of their existence had been stolen after creating some distance between themselves and their corroded counterpart, and it gave them chills when they thought of what their outcome might be if the fat worm succeeded in taking over their existence completely.

While the Invulnerability ultimate didn’t solve the root of the problem, this situation that it had put them in was still good for them. Not only did it put a stop to the spreading of the infection, but it also gave them time to think about what to do to solve their problem.
