GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2356: Over-preparation.

Chapter 2356: Over-preparation.

Just two of their slaves would be enough to kill the other five. The reason they brought five reinforcements is to finish the fight as quickly as possible and prevent any accidents from happening.

So the four slaves they brought with them was already them over-preparing and overestimating the defense of the energy spring.

As for their other slaves, they left them outside the barrier to monitor the situation and be useful in other ways.

For example, they needed someone to make sure that the other end of the gate that they carried into the barrier was functional so that they would be able to escape if something went wrong.

They had other plans that they hoped not to use. All in all, it can be said that they are very prepared.

Their plans were not perfect, but they ensured that they would be able to survive this endeavor if something went wrong. So it was with confidence that they entered the barrier.

As soon as they crossed the threshold of the barrier, Sir Kris took the control plate and locked down the barrier. Then he activated the highest state of defense for the barrier.

His actions caused a lot of confusion. But before anyone could ask why he did what he did, he attacked the other rank 6 godclad.

He used a deadly move that caught the noble off guard. The wealth that he had stored within the divine ability of Power of Wealth was consumed to fuel an attack using the rank 6 Wealth Armament divine ability.

Then he pointed his finger at the rank 6 noble. Before the noble could react, a golden lightning bolt shot out from the finger and into his face.

The golden lightning bolt blasted the noble’s face and head apart. He couldn’t even say anything before he died.

He didn’t die immediately. His body fell to the ground and twitched as the noble tried to recover from the injury that he had sustained.

Unfortunately, epic beings don’t have the ability to recover a lost head. The best they can do is sustain their lives with spiritual energy. This will give them time for someone to come along to heal them, such as a healer from the light pathway.

But no help was coming this time because Sir Kris was not willing to leave any loose ends. He stepped on the twitching corpse and crushed it in order to cut off any future problem.

Even after the chest had caved in, the heart crushed, and the lungs flattened, the epic being still didn’t die. It was because his spirit was still intact and still had a lot of spiritual energy to spare.

The spirit of the noble was trying to sustain the body and keep the connection between the soul and the body intact by spending spiritual energy. Unfortunately, its catastrophic injuries quickly depleted its spiritual energy and brought it to the state of irreversible death.

Even before he died, Sir Kris had leapt at the shocked guards standing around and begun killing them. It can be said that he was very sincere and proactive about helping Legion.

Not that he had much of a choice in the matter now that he had become a puppet for Legion. But it is a fact that he had spent a lot of his money to create that attack that neutralized the rank 6 noble instantly.

All three epic divine abilities of merchants have to do with money and gaining power from money. There is rank 4 Power of Wealth, rank 5 Burning Money, and rank 6 Wealth Armament.

The rank 4 Power of Wealth is the base or foundational divine ability for the other two, just like the Aegis Shield divine ability is for the other divine abilities of the pathway of undying.

The rank 4 Power of Wealth divine ability stores the wealth of an epic godclad for them. This wealth can then be used for the rank 4 divine ability or for the other two epic divine abilities.

If the money is used for the rank 5 Burning Money divine ability, the epic merchant gains a boost to their strength by burning money. This boost is temporary as opposed to the permanent and passive enhancement from the rank 4 Power of Wealth divine ability.

Burning money for power is cheap and can grant a lot of power for a lesser amount of money compared to the rank 4 Power of Money divine ability. This is why merchants will use it even though the boost is temporary.

If a merchant needs a lot of power in a short amount of time, they can resort to using the rank 5 Burning Money divine ability. After all, life is more valuable than wealth.

Merchants are miserly, but they understand that if they die, then their wealth will go to waste. Rather than dying, it is always smarter to burn money for power.

Merchants call the rank 5 Burning Money divine ability wasteful. They will only use it when they have no choice.

However, Sir Kris used an even more wasteful divine ability even though he was stronger than his opponent and was also catching him off guard.

He had two pathways, while his enemy had only one pathway. He also had the advantage of a surprise attack. To top it off, he also had access to the divine abilities that his enemy had, plus the divine abilities from the four pathways of his slave master.

It can be said he had all the advantage and would have come out on top. But he went ahead to consume his wealth to create a single attack in order to kill his disadvantageous enemy quickly.

The rank 6 Wealth Armament is a divine ability that converts money into attacks and defensive shields.

This is similar to the rank 9 Blood Sacrifice divine ability of the pathway of killing, but it doesn’t use blood to fuel its attacks. What it uses is money, so a merchant with this divine ability must be rich to enjoy it.
