GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2178 - 2178: Spike The Avenger.

They were determined to fake their deaths so they couldn’t openly return to their previous house. That meant that they had to find a new place while simultaneously betraying Sheckel and planning their fake death.

Not only had they been multi-tasking, but they also had done all of it in a hurry because they didn’t have much time to do it. Captain Sheckel would be impressed if she could overcome her instinctive discrimination against traitors.

As for their previous house, the important things had been moved out, and the house itself had been forced to collapse because of the generous use of bomb stones.

They did all of that in order to cut themselves off from the lamp bearers and the battle that will happen between the nobles and them.

From the little that they saw fighting mutants with Sheckel in her last few days alive, it is certain that if the lamp bearers start fighting the nobles and they are ordered to get involved on the side of justice, either they will die, be exposed, have to betray the lamp bearers, or all of them.

Rather than have those things happen to them, they decided to leave on their own terms when they still had the chance. Now that they have gained their freedom, what they plan to do is grow stronger in relative peace.

The same couldn’t be said about a certain rank 3 traveler, though. Her name is Spike, and she is the lamp bearer who survived the purge.

She is currently one of the only two lamp bearers still alive in the town. Even though she survived the siege, she still returned to Ivory Town, and she still has the intention to continue fighting.

This intention was only reinforced when she heard that Levi died fighting and managed to take down many nobles with him.

She wept when she heard about Levi’s death. As she hid in the shadows looking at what used to be their base, she swore to herself, “I will avenge you all.”

She wasn’t particularly angry that the base had collapsed. If anything, she was glad that it had collapsed on top of Bushwick’s knights.

Unfortunately, an explosion and the subsequent collapse of a two-story building on top of the knights wasn’t enough to kill them. They were at most injured.

This made her angry, but it also made her determined to take advantage of the opportunity that the collapse had granted her. So she continued to watch the base patiently.

As she watched, the collapsed building was cleared away by many godclads and servants. Most of the godclads working belonged to the machinist pathway. They were using machines to clear the rubble and rescue the knights.

The knights themselves were tough. As rank 2 godclads, they had bodies that were three times as strong as those of mortals.

The knights were also encased in heavy plate armor. So their lives were not in danger because of the collapse.

She had personal experience about how tough the knights were to kill. Because of their armor, she couldn’t use her rank 3 Skin Grab divine ability on them.

It is not an understatement to say that unless the knights lay on the ground and let her kill them, she wouldn’t be able to kill them despite being stronger and faster than them individually. This is because of the protection of their plate armor.

But as the knights were rescued and their helmets were removed so that they would be able to breathe, Spike saw her chance. Her eyes lit up, and she took out her foil.

Not all the knights had been rescued. Only six of the nine that she remembered had been rescued. But she couldn’t wait for all of them to be removed from the collapsed base, or everyone would be focused on the rescued knight, and it would be too late for her to take action.

The thin, sharp sword was straightened in her hand. Then she activated Rank 1 Speed Boost and dashed towards the area where the knights were laid out.

There were guards surrounding the knights. Some of them were godclads, while others were mortals. She didn’t care about them at all.

She dared to make a move because she didn’t sense any danger. Her rank 2 Seeking Danger and Fortune divine ability told her that the conditions were right for an attack and even helped her find a way to slip past the guards and reach the knights.

It was her rank 2 divine ability that helped her survive being surrounded by nine rank 2 knights and successfully escape to live another day and be able to return a few hours later to enact revenge.

And what a sweet, sweet revenge it was. Her sharp blade pierced through the neck of the resting knights and cut out their trachea and carotid artery after she flexed the blade.

All the guards saw was a blur in the darkness. By the time they realized that they were being attacked, the first knight was already screaming and choking on his blood.

Spike moved on to the next target. This knight was a lady. But Spike didn’t care. She impaled the knight as she looked over in confusion to the first knight, who was shouting.

By this time, the guards already knew that they were being attacked. They began chasing after Spike and screaming for help. The whole camp was roused into action by their shout, and more people were converging on their position.

Spike began to sense danger. Her rank 2 divine ability was telling her that a barricade was about to be formed around her. It was also telling her that if she didn’t leave now, she might not be able to leave again.

She didn’t want to leave, but she recognized that the situation was getting too dangerous for her. So she promised to return in the future for more revenge as she drove her blade into the eye of the third unlucky knight.
