Chapter 2177 - 2177: Early Death.
Legion-12 agreed. He said, “It could be. It could also be the mythic form of the rank 9 godclads of the pathway of justice.”
Legion-6 shook his head and said, “I don’t think there is a further difference between the mythic form of a pathway and the form of its true god.”
Legion-2 rolled his eyes and said, “How can you be so sure? We don’t even know if the rumor that mutants look like the true gods of their pathway is real.”
Legion-6 insisted, “The rumor is not unfounded. Mutants look like the mythical release of rank 9 and above godclads. If those mythical godclads look anything like the true god of the pathway, who is supposed to be the end product of the pathway, then it is not inappropriate to say that mutants look like the true gods of the pathway.”
The clones were about to argue, but Legion-1 ended it by asking a question he had been wondering about.
“Do you think that our existence and actions had anything to do with Sheckel dying? Did she die early? How long do you think Sheckel would have lived without us?”
This question was profound and difficult to answer. In their attempt to answer it, they had to think back to all of their actions and how they might have affected Sheckel.
The question is interesting because they are not supposed to be alive currently. They should have died the night Sheckel found them in their village.
Another interesting thing is that, according to what they remember, the nobles and lamp bearers of the kingdom of Kent shouldn’t have begun fighting yet. The two shouldn’t have begun to fight for another 20 years.
Of course, their impression of when the nobles and lamp bearers began fighting could be very wrong. After all, information doesn’t travel quickly in this age. So what they thought might be 20 years late might be wrong.
But even if the information is inaccurate and the lamp bearers came to blows with the nobles much earlier than they thought, they already know that their existence had an impact on Sheckel’s death and that some of their actions might have pushed her to an early death.
The series of actions they have in mind was when they enslaved Black Knife and sent him to the Ivory family to help them fight the lamp bearers better. That move surely brought forward Sheckel’s death.
From what they learned from Black Knife, the Ivory family didn’t plan to fight and kill Sheckel today. It was with the help of the information from Black Knife that they were able to arrange the demise of the lamp bearers so well.
The more they thought about it, the more they realized that Sheckel might not have died if they hadn’t meddled in it. This is highly possible because of the existence of reinforcement from out of town.
Legion-3 finally said, “In that case, it is good that she died. Thanks to her death, we will be able to get that heart and see what it can do.”
This made the clones laugh for a while.
They have wanted to get the bloody heart that served as the node of the blood network ever since they saw it. It was why they sent Black Knife to participate in the final battle with the lamp bearers.
They wanted him to grab the heart after Sheckel’s death. He did so for them and also dropped it along with other things for them, so he did a good job.
As they reached their destination, they wondered if they should give him a reward for his good work.
Some clones suggested that they not torture him for a short while, and some thought that the best thing they could do for him was to grow stronger faster so that they would be able to remove his free will and end his misery faster.
The majority of them agreed with the latter. It sounded more like a reward than not torturing him for a while. After all, they are not torturing him now.
Not torturing him is normal, not a reward. If they want to make it a reward, then they must make it normal to torture him for doing nothing. But if they do that, it will undermine their goal of rewarding him.
As they were speaking to each other, they circled their destination to make sure that no one was watching it apart from Black Knife.
They found some people watching the location. After moving closer to them and reading their minds, they discovered that these people were sent by Bushwick to monitor the house they wanted to go into.
This house is on the outskirts of town. It is where Bushwick placed the 1,000 liters of energy water that will serve as the first part of Black Knife’s payment.
They had instructed Black Knife to come here and check the goods before leaving the bloody heart there. Then Black Knife was to watch the place to make sure that no one entered it.
Now that they arrived and found Bushwick’s people watching the house, it is clear that Bushwick is still investigating Black Knife, and it was prudent of them to be careful.
They told Black Knife the location of the scouts and instructed him to kill them. When he was done, they told him to leave.
It was after everyone had been cleared out that they entered the place and began moving the reward with their bucket. They moved everything to their new base. Then they went to their new base.
Their new base was an impromptu decision they made when they left Sheckel and returned to the town. Before they went to the base and got control of some of the arrays from the Custodian, they had picked a new base, gone to the white tower to buy bombstones and buy the gateway bucket, and set up the gateway bucket in their new base.
They did all of these while they were busy betraying the lamp bearers. If Captain Sheckel knew, she would realize just how great they were at multi-tasking.
