GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2166 - 2166: Showdown.

If Clark was still alive and heard what Silver Mirror just said about being a man of honor, the man would have snorted when he heard such a heartfelt declaration of honor.

There’s just no way Clark would believe that someone who left his sister to die would have honor. So he would have laughed himself to death if he had Silver Mirror’s false promise.

Legion didn’t care about his lies. They returned to Ivory Town and continued the wait.

They were waiting for the outcome of Captain Sheckel’s fight. The outcome of that fight would determine who would be the controller of Ivory Town in the short term.

The outcome will also determine if they will rob the base of the lamp bearers and blow it up or continue to stand guard faithfully there. So clearly, there is a lot counting on the outcome of the fight apart from the lives of the participants of the fight, of course.

There were two sides to the fight. On one side was Captain Sheckel and her lamp bearers. On the other side was Sir Bushwick and the soldiers of the Ivory family.

There were ten combatants on the side of the lamp bearers. There is Captain Sheckel, the rank 4 judge. There was also a rank 3 judge who served as a sergeant, a rank 3 traveler who served as another sergeant, and seven rank 2 godclads of various pathways.

On the other side were 13 combatants. One was Sir Bushwick himself. He is a rank 4 noble.

Beside Sir Bushwick, on the right side, is Sir Charles, a rank 3 knight. On the left side of Sir Bushwick is a rank 3 assassin named Black Knife. Behind these three were 9 rank 2 knights and one rank 3 warrior.

The lamp bearers had been resting after Legion and the other two left them. They were resting around a pool of water at the center of the village. This stagnant pool of water is the spirit spring of the village.

They had taken their fill from the spirit spring and were waiting for the next call for help. But this call for help didn’t come, so they didn’t have to rush to the next battlefield like they were doing before.

As they were resting, the rank 3 traveler sensed danger and stood up abruptly.

She called out to Captain Sheckel, “We have company.”

Everyone had just relaxed, but they became tense again when they heard that warning.

Captain Sheckel asked, “What is it?”

The traveler replied, “There are at least ten of them. One of them is rank 4. And they are humans, not beasts.”

Captain Sheckel called out to everyone. “Form up behind me.”

Everyone stood up and arranged themselves in a squad formation behind their captain. They held their lamps nervously and fearfully.

After a while of waiting, the enemies entered the range of perception of the rank 2 traveler, so he too sensed the danger.

At this time, the rank 3 traveler had also acquired accurate information about the enemies.

She said to the captain, “There’s 12 of them. One rank 4, two rank 3, and nine rank 2.”

This information made the hearts of the lamp bearers sink. But their fear wasn’t enough for them to contemplate giving up. After all, they weren’t outnumbered much. So they still had a chance to win.

Captain Sheckel emphasized that by saying, “We have the strongest pathway. No one who has sinned can defeat us. So have faith and fight bravely, for we will surely be victorious.”

The lamp bearers cheered in the darkness. Their shout scared the already traumatized villagers who had just survived a mutant attack.

Travelers are the most sensitive godclads to danger, but she didn’t sense the rank 3 assassin because he was fully cloaked and had no intention to harm her.

Actually, Black Knife didn’t want to harm anyone here. He didn’t want to be here at all, much less fight lamp bearers.

Lamp bearers honestly scare him. If not for a certain unseen faceless one asking him to come here to participate in the battle, he wouldn’t be here.

Soon, the two sides met. On one side were the lamp bearers fighting for the freedom of everyone and the liberation from the tyranny of nobles.

On the other side were the nobles fighting for the freedom of everyone and liberation from the tyrannical rule of the lamp bearers. Both sides were fighting for freedom.

The atmosphere was charged as the two sides stared at each other. One could hear the crickets chirping in the darkness, and those with good hearing could hear the nervous beating of many hearts as the two sides prepared to fight to the death.

Everyone was tense. Only Sir Bushwick didn’t appear tense. He played with his blue beard and chuckled as if he was amused by a secret joke.

Sir Bushwick was over 50 years old, but he looked to be 20. He had the appearance of a lean and handsome young man.

He also had blue hair and blue eyes. In fact, his blood is blue too. These are mutations caused by his pathways.

He chuckled and finally asked, “Who told you that judges have the strongest pathway?”

He shook his head and spoke as if he were admonishing a child. “You silly goose. Everyone knows that the strongest pathway is the pathway of killing. They can cut anything and kill anyone. If you were to fight a rank 4 killer, you wouldn’t stand a chance.”

Captain Sheckel didn’t refute him. Instead, she tried to reason with him by saying, “We don’t need to fight. I can’t withdraw my people, and we will leave Ivory Town this instant.”

Sir Bushwick chuckled again and said, “That’s a good proposal. Unfortunately, this isn’t about you. This is about the fight between the nobles and the lamp bearers. This is just the start. Your death will serve as the fuse to light a great fire of freedom in our dear kingdom.”
