Chapter 693: Let Me Send You into the Tiger’s Den

  • Next Chapter

"It really seems to be the case, the zoo director truly has no sense of responsibility! It’s terrifying. Fortunately, this young man is quick on his feet; if he had been hit just now, wouldn’t he have died?" Some of the aunties beside were already starting to criticize Meng Guangtian.

"That’s right, the tiger got out, which is obviously the zoo’s responsibility, and now they are blaming us tourists instead. This is truly unheard of!" Several passionate young people kept mocking.

"Indeed, his first concern wasn’t whether the tourists were injured, but whether his tiger was dead. The way he looked just now, like he was going to cause trouble for others—how could someone like that be qualified to be a zoo director!" Several people accused, as the saying goes, the net of justice may be vast but none can escape it, and the eyes of the masses are sharp.

"So what if it is, this is a purebred Northeast tiger, each one worth millions. Can any of you afford that? You’re fine now, aren’t you? No one was injured, right?" Meng Guangtian’s face was flushed purple with anger, but he had to acknowledge it, and his tone showed no sign of weakness, as if whatever he did was justified.

"Good heavens, did I hear wrong? He actually thinks a tiger is worth more than a human life? Is there no justice, no law anymore?" Several aunties were filled with righteous indignation, feeling as if their worldview had been refreshed once again.

Some people still didn’t discuss much, because in the eyes of many, if the tiger really is worth millions, then perhaps some people’s lives aren’t worth that much. Society is like this sometimes—very realistic and brutally honest.

Many people champion the slogan that life is priceless, but how many people’s lives are truly priceless? In today’s society, even emotions can be sold by weight, so what about life? Some are even engaged in illegal organ trade simply for money, and many people are involved in human trafficking, such atrocious activities.

"Isn’t this young fellow injured? Are you blind? Your first concern isn’t people, but a tiger. People today are more and more blinded by money, lacking the most basic sense of responsibility and conscience. How can someone like you be a zoo director, treating people so poorly, let alone animals? In your eyes, they might just be tools for making money, right?" The world never lacks people with a sense of justice. An elderly lady stood up and scolded without reservation, leaning on her walking stick, full of indignation.

This aroused a wave of anger, with many people agreeing, and the scene instantly turned noisy.

"Right! People like him are simply scum of society!"

...

"Say another word and I’ll have security throw you out of the zoo immediately!" Meng Guangtian shouted loudly, giving a signal, and four or five security guards surrounded them, holding electric batons menacingly, ready to drive people away at any moment. The previously chattering crowd fell silent, clearly intimidated, not daring to make any more noise.

"Everyone, don’t be afraid. If he dares to act, this zoo will go viral tomorrow for sure. I’ve filmed everything, and once it’s online, it will cause an uproar. A zoo director like him should have been removed long ago. I wonder who would still want to visit this zoo in the future!" Gu Xiangyi defiantly shouted, recording with her phone.

"Smash her phone and kick them out of the zoo!" Meng Guangtian’s face looked very unpleasant. Compelled, he shouted, directing his security guards to try to drive Xu Xiangbei and the others out of the zoo.

"If you dare make a move, we’ll call the police!" A few righteous young men, seeing such a beautiful lady about to be bullied, planned to step up as heroes, broadening their chests and strong arms, ready to put on quite a show.

"Go ahead and call, I have connections at the police station. When they come, I’ll say you are causing trouble here, and have you all locked up for a few days. Who knows what might happen then!" Meng Guangtian wasn’t afraid of them, wearing a smug smile, looking as if he was guaranteed to win. This frightened those young men into hesitating, unwilling to step forward again, their faces turning sour as if they had eaten dog poop, and they retreated back into the crowd.

"Since reasoning doesn’t work, I guess we’ll have to see whose fist is stronger!" Xu Xiangbei finally moved. He had initially hoped to resolve today’s incident under the pressure of public opinion, but sometimes he realized his thinking was too naive.

"What, you..." Meng Guangtian pointed at him, his expression changed. He had overlooked that Xu Xiangbei was an expert, someone who could take down two tigers. My God, is there anyone in this zoo who can handle him? Even bringing in a crocodile might be knocked down by him; perhaps only an elephant might stand a chance.

The surrounding security guards immediately backed off, having witnessed Xu Xiangbei’s skills before. And before they could react, Xu Xiangbei had already made his move, like a fierce tiger descending the mountain, or a hidden dragon soaring to the deep, unstoppable. Although lightly injured, dealing with this group of small fry was a piece of cake. As he weaved through the guards, in a swift and uncatchable manner, he punched, kicked, and dodged within a few moves, bringing seven or eight guards to the ground, crying out in pain, no longer able to fight.

"I’m telling you, don’t mess around. I have connections at the police station. If you dare to harm me, I’ll make sure you end up in jail, rotting there!" Meng Guangtian’s entire face changed as he looked at the war-god-like Xu Xiangbei. His legs trembled, and he stammered as he spoke, now regretting his actions. Had he known, he would never have crossed Xu Xiangbei.

"You should know my wife’s identity, right? She’s the big CEO of Xiangyi Group. Putting that aside, do I look like an ordinary person? You said you have connections at the police station, just call them. Let’s see who’s in trouble—you or me. I’m telling you, I came from a special forces unit; when the time comes, you’ll be the one in trouble. In all of Jiangcheng, there’s no one who can take me down!" Xu Xiangbei didn’t want to escalate things, although furious, he didn’t want to involve the police. A few random words managed to overawe Meng Guangtian.

"Fine, I’ll accept my loss today. You tell me, what should I do?" Meng Guangtian, slightly defeated but regaining composure, asked as the director of a large zoo, having seen the world and being familiar with the ways of society.

"I’m not interested in money. To be honest, my money could bury you, and just now I was close to losing my life," Xu Xiangbei said with a smile, looking at him as if seeing a long-lost relative. To Meng Guangtian, that smile was like a demon from hell.

"What do you want?" Meng Guangtian shivered all over, retreating to sit on the ground, pale-faced.

"What could I want? What do you expect me to want? Didn’t you say my life isn’t as valuable as a tiger’s? Since you like tigers so much, I’ll let you reunite. I’ll throw you into the tiger’s den, let you get close. How does that sound?" Xu Xiangbei’s words were very gentle, seemingly considerate for Meng Guangtian, yet heard chillingly by those around.

"No, I don’t like tigers at all, I really don’t, I hate them!" Meng Guangtian shook his head like a rattle drum. Just thinking about himself in the tiger’s den scared him, his legs turned to jelly, and he couldn’t stand up.

"I don’t really like indecisive and fickle people!" Hearing his words, Xu Xiangbei’s face darkened, deeply stinging Meng Guangtian, who almost burst into tears, quickly pleading out loud.

"I was wrong, I really was wrong, I’ll pay you, apologize, whatever you want me to do!"

"But I don’t like that; I just want to see you sleep in the tiger’s den!" Xu Xiangbei said nonchalantly, advancing and picking up Meng Guangtian like a chick, ready to head for the fence by the tiger enclosure.

"I was wrong, big brother, I really was wrong. I have money, lots of it, I’ll give it all to you, just let me go!" At this moment, Meng Guangtian was truly scared, unable to stand, tears and snot mingled as he clung onto Xu Xiangbei’s pant leg, refusing to let go, clutching the ground with his other hand, even as Xu Xiangbei grabbed him by the collar!

"How about this, kneel and knock three times, then pay me the price of a tiger, and this matter is settled. How’s that?" Although Xu Xiangbei thought he was scum, he didn’t want to dirty his hands, as this is a lawful society, and being motivated by money is not punishable by death, not to the extent of being irredeemable.

"The price of a tiger?" Meng Guangtian looked as though he had eaten dog poop, his face incredibly bitter.

"What, unwilling?" Xu Xiangbei lifted him again, ready to move.

"No, I’m willing, very willing!"
