Chapter 564
The little girl wasn’t in a hurry either, she just went about her business on her own.
Then one day, that group of brats returned, surrounding a young boy dressed in luxurious brocade.
"Young Master Noel, look, this is the weirdo in our village, no matter what you do to him, he won’t fight back at all," a kid next to the boy said.
"Oh, interesting," Young Master Noel wore luxurious clothes and brocade boots, a glint of amusement and disdain flickered in his eyes, as if this tiny village was nothing but a playground, he glanced at the surrounding children, a smug smile hooking the corners of his mouth, and walked toward Adam’s courtyard.
"Hey, I heard this guy is a soft persimmon, no matter how you squeeze him, he doesn’t make a sound?" He cast a sidelong glance at Adam, his tone carrying obvious provocation.
"Yeah, Young Master Noel, we’ve tried many times, he’s like a wooden dummy, doesn’t move at all," the chubby boy hurried forward to flatter him, still clutching pebbles, ready to display his battle results once again.
"Then today, let me show him some true colors," Young Master Noel untied an exquisite jade pendant from his waist and tossed it to a nearby child as a reward, he bent down, picked up a larger rock, took aim at Adam, and hurled it viciously.
Bang!
The rock smashed onto the stone table beside Adam, kicking up a cloud of dust, Adam remained completely motionless.
"Hmph, boring," a cold sneer curled on Noel’s lips, he waved his hand, gesturing for the crowd to make way, and strode into the courtyard, a far more malicious glint flickered in his eyes.
"Hey, you, do you know who I am? How dare you play deaf and mute in front of this young master?" He stood before Adam, looking down condescendingly, his tone brimming with threat and disdain.
Adam gave no response, he merely stared hollowly ahead, as if everything before him was isolated from his world.
"Hmph, it seems you refuse a toast only to be forced to drink a forfeit," a ruthless glint flashed through Noel’s eyes, he grabbed Adam by the collar, hoisted him up, and violently shoved him to the ground.
"Hahaha, see that? He’s nothing but trash," he laughed smugly, the surrounding children began to jeer, and the atmosphere instantly turned nasty.
The brocade-clad youth then began to punch and kick Adam in all sorts of ways.
Just then, Morwen’s voice pierced through the clamor like a wisp of clear spring breeze.
"Stop it, how can you do this!" She ran over panting, holding reeds she had just picked from the riverbank, clearly intending to help Adam sweep the courtyard.
The moment she saw the scene, Morwen’s face turned pale, she rushed forward, blocking the path in front of Adam and spreading her arms wide, "Young Master Noel, he’s already so pitiful, why do you still have to bully him?"
Noel paused, not expecting a little girl to step forward and defy him, he narrowed his eyes, sizing Morwen up, a playful smirk curving his lips, "Yo, where did this brat come from? You actually dare to meddle in this young master’s business?"
"I don’t care who you are, you just can’t bully people," Morwen met his gaze without the slightest fear, though her voice was small, it was exceptionally resolute.
"Hmph, today this young master is going to let him know the consequences of ignoring me," he reached out to shove Morwen, but she nimbly dodged.
The little girl’s agility was excellent, no matter what the brocade-clad young master did, he couldn’t touch her.
After several fruitless attempts, Morwen’s gaze grew even firmer, she clenched her fists, body trembling slightly, but her courage remained unshakable as a boulder.
Some surrounding children revealed looks of fear, while others whispered among themselves, the atmosphere became delicate and tense.
Noel was clearly enraged by this resistance, his face turned livid, and a ruthless glint flashed through his eyes.
But after multiple failed attempts, he was forced to realize this little girl was not someone he could easily push around.
He stopped, took a deep breath, and tried to suppress the raging fire in his heart.
"Good, very good, consider yourself lucky today, but mark my words, offending me isn’t something you can easily walk away from," he spoke through gritted teeth, gaze sweeping between Adam and Morwen, leaving behind a vicious threat.
"Just you wait and see," he turned and strode away, the group of children exchanged glances before hurriedly following him out, the small courtyard returned to its former peace.
Morwen watched his retreating back, although she still felt lingering fear, she was far more worried about Adam.
She turned to look at him, still lying on the ground with hollow eyes, her own gaze brimming with complex emotions.
"Big Brother, are you okay?" she asked softly, voice carrying a trace of a quiver.
Adam slowly sat up, there seemed to be a faint ripple in his hollow gaze, but he didn’t look at Morwen, his eyes remained numb, as if he wasn’t the one who had just been bullied.
Seeing this, Morwen’s resolve to protect him grew even firmer.
The good times did not last long, however, Morwen’s brave actions quickly spread throughout the village.
Young Master Noel was the scion of a prominent, wealthy family here, he possessed considerable influence, he felt extremely dissatisfied with Morwen’s resistance and decided to teach her a lesson while warning anyone who dared challenge his authority.
Not long after, Morwen’s family encountered an unprecedented predicament.
First, their farmland was destroyed for no reason, then livestock went missing inexplicably, even their daily drinking water was maliciously contaminated.
Morwen’s parents were plagued with worry, they knew Noel was behind all of this, but they were entirely powerless.
Yet, just when their daily survival had become incredibly difficult, a wild chicken or two along with a bucket or two of clean water would occasionally appear at their doorstep.
They had no idea who was leaving them there.
The predicament facing the little girl’s family loomed over them like dark clouds, but those mysteriously appearing wild chickens and clean water were like a ray of light in the darkness, offering this family a trace of warmth and hope.
