Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator
Chapter 815: Returning to the City of Spirit
- Returning to the City of Spirit
“Heh heh, you can’t kill me. I’m immortal. As long as there’s anything around me—matter, energy, or mental energy—I can rely on those things to be reborn. That’s how I’m able to contain the Deep Well Substance.”
Aro spoke his rule ability to Lin Ye without any concern.
“That really is hard to deal with. Looks like I’ll have to throw you into the Abyss.”
Lin Ye didn’t believe Aro was truly immortal; there had to be some flaw in his claim.
“The Abyss? Unless you can throw me deep into the Abyss, I can come back anytime.”
Aro had already set up a respawn coordinate here.
Just as the two were talking, a few parasitic fat pigs suddenly approached Aro and stuck themselves to his body.
“Can you keep these beasts away from me? I want to talk to you.”
When Aro saw that Lin Ye could contain the Deep Well Substance, he had a new idea.
“Uh, I didn’t send them over.”Lin Ye looked at those parasitic fat pigs with a somewhat strange expression.
“Get lost!”
Aro immediately realized what was happening around him. He forcefully shattered the parasitic fat pigs clinging to him.
But their flesh and blood had already stuck to his body and were constantly burrowing into him.
“Don’t you want this flower? Already turning on each other?”
Lin Ye couldn’t be bothered to interfere. He planned to wait for the two sides to tear each other apart, then deal with whoever was left.
“Those two are too useless. Given your level of understanding of the rules of flesh, it’s hard for me to snatch that flower from you. But since I don’t want to have come here for nothing, I’ll just have to collect some loot from him first.”
The man was very interested in Aro’s body, which could contain the Deep Well Substance.
“Aren’t you afraid that cult will come after you?”
Lin Ye sat on top of the coffin and patted the pig head next to him.
“Then let them come find me in the Red Sea.”
The man knew the cult was a big problem, but as long as he stayed deep in the Red Sea, no one could threaten him.
A large amount of flesh and blood covered Aro’s body surface, gradually alienating his physical structure. Aro had considered this scenario, so he tried to kill himself immediately, only to find that he could no longer even commit suicide.
“This is for you. After all, you’re the one who crippled him.”
The man tossed a Rule Fragment to Lin Ye, then sank into a pool of red liquid, taking Aro with him.
Lin Ye had originally planned to help Aro out, but since the man wisely handed over protection money, he couldn’t be bothered to make a move.
After all, Aro was his enemy. If the man hadn’t dealt with Aro, he would’ve had to take care of him anyway.
“…Aren’t you going to fight anymore? Weren’t you supposed to drag me back?”
Lin Ye looked around. He didn’t know if Medal was still here. She was a mental creature, more familiar with the mental world than he was.
But all around were only those parasitic fat pigs lying on the ground, snoring. Medal didn’t seem to have returned yet.
Lin Ye had no choice but to walk over to the coffin, open the lid, and lie down inside.
He didn’t plan to continue delving deeper into the mental world. Instead, he intended to study this coffin and find a way back to the City of Spirit.
‘…This seems like just an ordinary coffin.’
Lying inside the coffin, Lin Ye couldn’t sense any difference between the White Coffin and an ordinary coffin.
“You have to close the lid to activate this coffin, but I don’t know how to go back either.”
Little Guardian lay sideways beside Lin Ye and helped him close the coffin lid.
Just as the lid was about to shut completely, Medal suddenly appeared beside the coffin and extended her mental energy inside.
She had been waiting for this moment. As long as Lin Ye closed the lid, she could use the coffin to destroy his Consciousness.
Medal let out a scream. She hadn’t touched Lin Ye’s Consciousness inside the coffin; instead, she had hit a steel plate.
Part of her brain had been excised by Little Guardian.
The lid closed, and Lin Ye also noticed Medal, but the switch had already been completed. Outside, they had reached a new spiritual depth.
“Will she attack the Consciousness I left in the previous coffin?”
Lin Ye asked uncertainly.
“She probably can’t. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have chosen to attack at that exact moment. Besides, there should be a mental defense system in the previous coffin too.”
When they made contact, Little Guardian had hit Medal hard, but since she was a mental creature, she probably wouldn’t end up an idiot.
“So what do we do now? I have no idea how to go back using this coffin.”
Lin Ye hadn’t studied this kind of high-end mental construct.
“I don’t know either. This isn’t my area of expertise.”
Little Guardian examined Medal’s spirit fragments, trying to extract some spiritual information from them.
“I’m not just stuck here forever, am I?”
Lin Ye suddenly felt a spiritual pull, dragging him back to the previous coffin.
This spiritual pull kept yanking Lin Ye backward. One by one, versions of Lin Ye woke up inside White Coffins. After dozens of reversals, Lin Ye was pulled back into the cinema in the City of Spirit.
Alice was sitting right beside him. The screen was playing a classic horror movie, as if they had been sitting there all afternoon.
There were only the two of them in the theater. Alice held Lin Ye’s right hand. Her left hand was very hot.
“Are you okay?”
Lin Ye could feel the astonishing heat coming off Alice’s body.
“I’m fine. When I was very young, I used to get fevers often. It’s nothing serious.”
Alice showed a somewhat fragile smile. She stared at the screen, which was playing a movie’s after-credits scene.
“This is for you.”
Lin Ye placed the blooming flower in front of Alice.
Alice took the flower, brought it to her nose to smell its fragrance, and then handed it back to Lin Ye.
“This is the first time anyone has given me flowers, but black isn’t my favorite color. Next time, please give me a golden-yellow flower.”
The movie ended, and Alice vanished from her seat.
Lin Ye could still feel the lingering warmth on his right hand. He put away the flower and walked out of the cinema.
The entire city was empty. Little Ye sat at a seat outside the coffee shop and waved to Lin Ye.
“I thought there’d be a huge crowd of mental creatures waiting for me outside.”
Lin Ye sat down across from Little Ye and took a sip of the surprisingly decent sweet coffee.
“Looks like I came late. Those mental creatures delayed me a bit.”
Little Ye picked up the coffee and took a sip, then made a bitter face. She didn’t like bitter things either.
“Exactly. I thought I wasn’t going to make it back.”
Lin Ye tried a bite of the dessert on the table. It was delicious, completely different from his crappy coffee.
“I couldn’t have pulled you back either. That coffin is something that goes straight to the deepest part of the mental world. I could destroy some of those coffins, though. You got lucky.”
Little Ye glanced at Lin Ye’s right hand.
“This isn’t luck.”
Lin Ye didn’t think it was luck. Neither his being influenced to lie down in the coffin nor Alice pulling him back to the cinema had anything to do with luck.
