Chapter 806: The Chaotic City
- The Chaotic City
'What should I do next...'
Lin Ye closed his eyes and pondered the question. He was in a relaxed state and could clearly sense that danger lurked everywhere around him, but that had little to do with him.
A waiter walked up behind Lin Ye. He had just drawn his pistol when a sniper rifle shot from afar blew his head off.
Thud!
The corpse hit the ground, and blood splattered onto Lin Ye. Perhaps influenced by the special ability, he couldn't be bothered to dodge.
This gunshot seemed like a signal. The passersby nearby suddenly erupted into a brutal, flesh-and-blood melee.
The slaughter wasn't confined to this area. The entire city had descended into chaos.
'...What the hell is going on?'
Lin Ye had thought these people were all coming for him. He was just about to test out his special ability when they suddenly started fighting each other.
He had no idea why they were tearing each other apart. The surrounding shops had all closed their doors, and pedestrians on the street had taken cover. Before long, the bustling city center was left with nothing but a ground full of corpses.
Lin Ye picked up the coffee pot from the dining table and poured himself a cup. He didn't actually like this bitter, astringent drink, but unfortunately, all the shops around were already closed.
Thud!
A sniper bullet struck Lin Ye in the head. He didn't dodge it, nor did he bother with the shooter who had attacked him.
The bullet couldn't even penetrate his scalp, let alone leave a scratch.
Lin Ye continued sitting at the table, drinking his coffee. He was trying to study his surroundings while relaxing.
That was extremely difficult for others, but for Lin Ye, it was only moderately challenging. He often did other things while resting.
After finishing his coffee, Lin Ye got up and left the café. He planned to go to the seaside and do some fishing—since he had nothing better to do anyway.
As for the city's problems, they were no longer his concern.
"Get him!"
Just as Lin Ye was about to drive off, a group of burly men in flashy uniforms rushed out from the surrounding buildings, surrounding him in the middle.
"...I don't want to kill anyone right now. Can you guys stop bothering me?"
Lin Ye sensed no killing intent from these people, so he wasn't eager to fight.
Attacking recklessly would break his relaxed state, and there were probably other enemies hidden nearby.
Of course, if this weren't the mental world, Lin Ye wouldn't have to be so cautious.
"Someone ordered us to capture you. I suggest you don't resist."
The leader of the burly crew was a flat-haired, muscular man in a black suit. His physique was imposing, and he looked like he wasn't to be trifled with.
"...Fine, I guess. The cruise ship hasn't arrived yet anyway. I can hang out with you guys for a bit."
There seemed to be enemies from other factions lurking nearby. Lin Ye decided to give up on fishing and go along with these people for now.
That way, if anyone came looking for trouble, they'd have to deal with these burly men first.
"You'd better not mess with me."
The burly leader warned Lin Ye. A van pulled up beside him, and one of the burly men shoved Lin Ye inside.
Lin Ye didn't resist. Under the influence of the special ability, he didn't feel like doing anything unnecessary.
The driver was a burly man wearing a pink miniskirt. He flashed his white teeth at the rearview mirror, seemingly greeting Lin Ye.
Lin Ye couldn't be bothered to acknowledge him. The burly leader climbed into the van, and it started moving, heading in the opposite direction of the port.
"Tell me, why do those people want to catch you?"
The burly leader looked out the window and asked casually.
"...I was hoping you'd tell me the reason."
Lin Ye had no idea what these lunatics were on about.
"You don't know?"
The burly leader looked at Lin Ye with suspicion.
"Of course not. I rarely offend people. I don't have that many enemies. Could it be because something's wrong with this city? Why would you think this has anything to do with me?"
Lin Ye didn't have many enemies, because the ones he could handle, he took care of on the spot.
Unless they were strong enough to a certain degree, it was hard for anyone facing Lin Ye to survive a minute.
"...That's possible. Forget the base. Drive out of the city."
The burly leader seemed to have thought of something. He excitedly ordered the driver to change course.
Several silhouettes lurked near the convoy. They seemed to belong to different factions and would start fighting whenever they encountered each other.
"I'm taking the afternoon cruise ship out of here. If you guys want to do something, you'd better hurry."
Lin Ye leaned calmly against his seat, holding a half-finished cup of coffee as if he were the master here.
"I suspect you're connected to that suddenly appeared spiritual secret realm outside. Otherwise, those factions wouldn't all be trying to capture you."
The burly leader said with some seriousness.
"Another secret realm? I just came out of one this morning. Is there no end to this?"
Lin Ye frowned and took a sip of the still-steaming brown liquid.
"Spiritual secret realms are different from those garbage alien spaces called secret realms outside. A spiritual secret realm is sure to contain a large amount of mental energy crystals, and at least one spiritual core. If we get that spiritual core, we won't have to keep running a gym here tricking people into working out."
The burly leader said excitedly.
"So you guys are just small-timers running a spiritual gym. Then I suggest you stay far away from me. Not many factions dare to come after me, and those that do aren't legit at all."
Lin Ye sighed. He had thought these burly men bold enough to kidnap him had some hidden cards, but they turned out to be a bunch of idiots fishing in troubled waters.
The bigger the waves, the pricier the fish.
"He's right. You'd better stop the car immediately and dump him here, or you're all dead."
A man in a blood-red robe suddenly appeared between the burly leader and Lin Ye. Around him, one could almost hear the sound of flowing seawater.
"And what the hell are you?"
The burly leader punched the man's head, obliterating it. The explosive force of the punch blew away the steam from the coffee.
"How disgusting. Can't you stop bothering me?"
Brain fragments, red and white, mixed into the coffee cup. Lin Ye rolled down the window, tossed the cup out, and grabbed another steaming cup of coffee from beside him.
"I can't attack you right now, that's true. I'll be waiting for you at the Red Sea. But before that, I want to chat with you a little."
The flesh flowed backward, reforming into the man's head. He didn't seem to mind the burly leader blowing his head off and even smiled at him.
"Nothing to chat about. I'll come and kill you sooner or later. Of course, if you sincerely admit your mistake now, I might consider leaving you with an intact corpse."
Lin Ye calmly drank his coffee. He didn't like this bitter drink, so until he could make the perfect cup, he would keep tasting this inferior bitter flavor.
