Global Descent: I Alone Can See Hidden Evolution Paths
Chapter 229: the title nurse is right
The granite chunks from the destroyed wharf were still sliding into the dark, purplish water of the canal with slow, wet splashes that echoed deep inside the hollow warehouse ruins. The air down here was thick, hanging low under the cracked steel rafters, smelling of scorched copper wiring, wet river grease, and the cold, sharp static coming off the central district’s main defense lines.
Jun-ho walked through the center aisle of the ruined storage floor, his massive rubber boots leaving flat, black tracks in the thick layer of wet coal soot. He didn’t carry The Ash Remnant down by his thigh anymore; he held it loosely in his left hand, the rough hemp wrap of the handle dry and secure against his bare palm. Locked tightly over his chest were the rough, stone-gray slabs of the Ashen Monarch Core Plate, absorbing the black drizzle that leaked through the ceiling gaps.
Every few paces, the heavy canvas duffel bag slung over his right shoulder would give a slow, leather clink as the brass lock of The Monarch’s Ledger knocked against his water flask. Right at the corner of his eye, the solid black numbers were waiting, perfectly silent.
[ Level: 34]

[Active Trait: Ashen Domain (Phase 4 – 70-meter radius)]
Tae-woo and the four elite vanguards stood near the broken iron frame of the warehouse exit, their massive Tier 4 frames forming a thick wall of muscle and cracked leather against the rain. They had their wide blocks of dark basin rock slung over their backs, their faces gray from the atmospheric pressure of the lower city levels, their breathing heavy as they cleaned the stone dust off their knuckles.
"The municipal line repeaters are starting to twitch, boss," Tae-woo muttered, his broken nose bleeding a single drop of dark red onto his leather vest. He didn’t look back at the shattered wharf, his large hand tightening around his iron crowbar. "The regional office just sent an encrypted priority code to the main treasury bunker. They know the forty enforcers were cleared from the slipway, but they don’t know your domain radius is running seventy meters out. They think we’re still stuck in the lower drainage canal."
"Let them think it," Jun-ho said. His voice was quiet, completely dry under his dark gray hood.
He stopped near a rusted iron pillar that supported the center rafter, letting the weight of his duffel bag rest against the metal.
Lilith slid right up to his left shoulder, her long, exceptionally smooth legs cutting a clean line through the low purple mist of the floorboards. The tight crimson leather of her outfit pulled flat across the voluptuous, perfect curve of her round hips, her narrow waist twisting with a lazy, deliberate rhythm that brought her body right against his denim trousers. Her massive, half-visible chest rose and fell in quick, deep gasps against his bare upper arm, the leather straining against her rounded fullness as she tilted her face up to look at his jawline.
Her wide crimson eyes glowed with a lazy, dangerous fire under her long ink-black hair, her full red lips parting into a low, breathless murmur that carried the sharp scent of raw sulfur and dark incense straight to his neck.
"The mages inside the bunker are already setting up the three-layer stone seal, big guy," Lilith whispered, her long fingers, tipped with sharp crimson nails, sliding slowly up his bare arm with a teasing, hot friction that made his skin prickle. Her body was completely unraveled, her primitive demon instincts locking onto his presence with a fierce, submissive passion that made her skin flush a soft, hot pink color under the dim oil lamps.
"They think because the central district terminal has an electronic lock, you can’t force the inner deadbolts. But my ledger has the old unranked bypass codes from the winter floods. Let me handle the rear line, Jun-ho... I want to watch you clear the vault from the inside of my skin."
"The ledger belongs to the collective registry, demon," Eun-bi’s sharp, furious voice barked from the opposite side of the iron pillar.
The little nurse walked two long steps across the wet soot, her heavy canvas bag slung tight across her waist. Her dark hair was wet and messy, loose strands sticking to her forehead from the sweat of the lower channels, but her sharp face was completely rigid with an intense, biting jealousy. She jammed her rubber boot directly between Lilith’s leather trousers and the side of Jun-ho’s jeans, her bare thigh pressing hard against his shins for stability as she gave the demon girl a cold look.
She kept a tight, angry grip on her silver trauma scissors, her fingers clicking the blades together with a sharp, impatient snap that echoed through the empty warehouse.
"The database log is still running the core synchronization, Jun-ho," Eun-bi said, her voice dropping into that flat, quiet public-sector drawl that was thick with an intense, sharp irritation. She didn’t shift her weight back, her eyes locking straight onto his face. "If you let this rogue broker crowd the narrow track with her hair and her incense, the system will trace the mana displacement before we can even unpack the high-tier cores. The registry belongs to the collective detail, not her private collection."
Rea slid off a secondary workbench five paces away with a slow, fluid stride that made the high-slashed silk of her black tunic rustle loudly against her long bare legs. Her golden-blue eyes spun slowly in a lazy, dangerous circle under the gray sky, her full crimson lips tightening into a thin, jealous line as she wedged her own voluptuous hourglass shape tight against Jun-ho’s opposite sleeve, her wild orchid perfume cutting sharp through Lilith’s sulfur incense.
"The little nurse is right about the timer, big guy," Rea murmured, her bare arm rubbing against his shirt fabric with a heavy, possessive friction that competitive edge turning her tone sharp. "The demon girl is a bit too forward with her placement. She thinks because she signed the soul bind she owns the whole ledger line. I have the master key for the lower drainage grid already logged on my console. We don’t need her sulfur codes to clear the path."
Jun-ho didn’t pull back an inch from any of them. He reached out his bare right hand, his fingers closing around Rea’s narrow waist under the loose silk fabric of her tunic, while his left shoulder remained pinned against the hot, firm line of Lilith’s leather top. The dual friction made the suppressed lake behind his ribs pulse in a deep, slow rhythm that filled the entire dark hold with a silent, heavy weight.
"The bunker is seventy meters past the brick siding," Jun-ho said, his voice low and steady in the small room. He turned his head slightly, his lips brushing light against the soft skin of Rea’s neck before looking back at Eun-bi. "We allocate the ten points into Strength before we touch the main granite doors."
[Attribute Allocation Detected: 10 Points to Strength.]
[Applying 100x Multiplier to Resource Logic...]
[Strength increased by 1,000.]
The reaction inside his chest was completely silent. The frozen lake behind his ribs expanded by another full circle, a deep, heavy density settling into his shoulder blades and his left wrist. The air right around his large rubber boots grew thin, the loose grey salt crust beneath his soles rippling in small, rapid circles as the Ashen Domain - Phase 4 locked its boundary line seventy meters out into the mudflats.
"Tae-woo, grab the hooks," Jun-ho said flatly. "The line is opening."
They walked out into the dark midnight rain together, the solid black blade of The Ash Remnant resting loose against Jun-ho’s hip as they headed down the sloped path toward the main treasury bunker, leaving the empty warehouse behind them in the dark gray mist of the outer bay.
