Genius’s Godlike Game Broadcast
Chapter 257 : 3rd OTP, Purple Rush (2)
3rd OTP, Purple Rush (2)
As the game began, the backdrop shifted.
A small encampment was set up on a dark blue prairie, and Gyeongbok found himself sitting in front of its campfire.
― Is this how online starts?
― Is the location random? LOL
― Will he really succeed at bounty hunting!
― Ah, lol, as if he could beat Godple
Viewers expressed their anticipation for him. However, some tapped out anxious messages in the chat.
― If it's random spawn, can you even do bounty hunting?
― Did all participants scatter?
― No way;;; won't the whole time get eaten up just looking for Godple?
― Is this why you said to stream-snipe?
― If you have no friends, you can't even stream-snipe, lmao
Unless you were watching the channel, it would be hard to locate him. Gyeongbok agreed as well.
"Ah, yes. I was just about to explain, but that was a good point."
He briskly brushed off his hands as he stood and moved his hand. The minimap, which usually sat small in a corner, now filled his vision.
"Since we're using a private server anyway, I asked Qdari for a couple of tweaks. Let me tell you what's different from the official session."
Gyeongbok pointed at his own location on the minimap with a finger.
"As some people have mentioned in the chat, other participants might not be able to find me. So, I set it so that my location is always displayed, in real time, on everyone else's minimap."
― Eh?
― Lol, tracking system
― What's with this Wild West hi-tech!
― Oh? Doesn't this mean he has to be careful about backstabs at all times now?
― Kingjealous! Making it even harder!
― Ah, lol, come at me then!
― Instant Purple confidence ON!
Gyeongbok smiled as he continued, responding to the cheerful chat.
"And once the number of remaining participants drops to single digits, everyone's location will be shown. I thought wandering around blindly would waste too much time."
― For real, lol, if they just wander it'd make the channel super boring
― Does it turn into survival mode at 9 left?
― Bounty hunter reversal world OMG
― It's nice since bounty hunters can also group up, lol
― More likely everyone's going to get wiped out, lol
Taking it slow is part of the allure of this game, but today was a tournament. The settings were meant to speed things up.
"And, there's one more thing."
Gyeongbok closed the minimap and flicked his hand again.
[Asset Value Ranking]
[1. Purple – $13]
[2. Jake – $13]
[3. Wayne – $13]
[...]
A scrollable table appeared.
"All names except mine are autogenerated. This ranks players by their on-hand cash, equipment value, and any bounty money combined."
Question marks popped up in the chat. What was the point of this, they wondered.
"If you just blindly attack me and die, that's kind of pointless, right? It's also a way of displaying my tournament prize pool, and gives you a rough sense to gauge each other's level."
Viewers let out exclamations at his further explanation.
― Is this like a kind of power level scanner?
― You can definitely strategize your opportunity with this, lol
― You could look at the bounty on Godple and decide how many people to form a team with
― High asset value participants are going to have to watch their backs extra carefully, lol
― Don't just worry about Godple, keep an eye on all suspicious ones!
― Wow, lol, our hyung really put some thought into this
Satisfied by these responses, Gyeongbok rummaged through his belongings.
"Right now, everyone has the same asset value, right? Looks like it's $10 in cash, a pistol, and a lasso. Everyone starts with the same gear."
― What's this, only ten bucks to your name!
― Miss the days of being the perfect detective TT
― Everyone starts poor, lol
― Guess you got to save up first before you can do anything, lol
Gyeongbok put away his items and brushed off his hands.
"I hear online is free play-based, so there are lots of ways to make money. But as I mentioned in the announcement, today's going to be outlaw play."
He kicked sand into the campfire with his foot, putting it out. Then, as if remembering something, he clapped lightly.
"Oh, and one more thing! Don't forget, it's just a game."
― Lol, is this a public service announcement or what?
― But it's a good thing to say
― For real, lol, someone uptight might start nitpicking
― The people who can't tell the difference between reality and a game are the ones who worry about games causing violence, lol
― Really, lol, they think others get overly immersed just like they do
― Ah lol, if it bugs you, just watch a different channel!
Viewers eagerly agreed with his guidance. But as the chat started heating up, Gyeongbok quickly changed the subject.
"Just because it's free play doesn't mean there's no guide, there are still missions according to character alignment. Let's start with a nearby outlaw mission."
Checking the minimap for his location, Gyeongbok started walking.
* * *
His destination was the saloon in the nearest town. The sun was shining and, since it was early, the place was quiet.
"I'm looking for work."
Gyeongbok asked the owner straight up.
"As you can see, there aren't many customers, so no need for staff..."
The owner wiped the bar table and looked Gyeongbok up and down. Then, spotting the pistol at his waist, he glanced around.
"Is it okay if the job is a bit rough?"
"That depends on the pay."
At that, the owner smiled.
"The job itself is simple. I ordered some liquor and just need someone to pick it up. It's already been paid for."
He flashed two fingers.
"Take care of it quietly and I'll pay you $20."
The viewers instantly figured out what kind of work this was.
― It's obviously bootlegging lol
― WA! Double your net worth in one go!
― The mission is simple, huh?
― Wild West delivery service, what the heck!
― Our hyung does express delivery best, lol
― Once you get a taste of illegal booze, you can't stop, huh?
Gyeongbok thought the same.
"Looking at the minimap, there are some locked missions, probably the tougher ones. Maybe you have to stack up infamy to unlock those."
He needed money for now, so when he accepted, the owner lent him a carriage.
"Just leave a $10 deposit."
"A deposit?"
"Of course. What if you just run off with the carriage? It'll be returned as long as you come back safely, don't worry."
― Not wrong, lol
― This is how outlaws do business?
― Ah lol, doesn't even trust you!
― Cunning schemes everywhere, lol
Gyeongbok hesitated but handed over $10.
'Outlaw missions really do have a sketchy vibe.'
He was sure this would be the feeling with other outlaw NPCs too. He hopped onto the carriage and followed the pointer on the minimap.
― Totally looks like a shady forest
― Classic spot for outlaw deals, duh
― Maybe it's for the illegal booze ingredients?
He arrived at a dense forest. Not far down the path, he saw three men and a box.
"Looks like those guys are the bootleggers."
Gyeongbok brought his horse to a stop in front of them. The bootleggers scowled at him.
"Here for the liquor?"
"That's right."
One who seemed like the leader spat on the ground and stood up.
"There's been a complication. Needed more stuff to make the liquor, so we'll need extra payment."
Viewers were dumbfounded.
― What kind of rubbish is this?
― They're the ones who messed up, why ask for more money?
― Is this outlaw logic?
― Starting off infuriating, huh?
― So shameless it's actually funny, lol
Gyeongbok had similar thoughts.
"And why are you asking me for it?"
"You're the one who needs the booze, aren't you? Just fork over ten more bucks."
The bootlegger boldly held out his hand.
"I don't have any."
"Hah, can't read the situation?"
As he sighed, the other goons fiddled with their belts.
"You don't want to risk your life over pocket change, do you? Hand over everything you've got."
Faced with their threat, Gyeongbok sighed briefly.
"These outlaw missions are a pain, not just because the job is criminal, but dealing with people like this is even more exhausting."
― For real, lol, their mentality is different
― They don't even understand basic logic, lol
― So different from Perfect logic
― Don't even try to understand from the start, lol
― That's why you avoid weirdoes in reality
― Yeah, if you get involved, things just get messy
With viewers agreeing, Gyeongbok made up his mind.
"I'll handle this the outlaw way."
With that declaration, Gyeongbok grabbed the leader's arm, dragged him in, and with his other hand, drew his pistol and fired.
"Argh!"
The gunshot rang by his ear, and the leader screamed. The other goons froze in place, having seen the bullet blown through the dropped hat beside them.
"The situation's changed."
Gyeongbok pressed his gun to the leader's head.
"As you can see, I just spent a bullet. So I'll be taking extra money myself."
"What are you even—hng!"
The bootlegger shut his mouth at the click coming from right against his ear.
"Didn't you say there's no need to risk your life for pocket change?"
At Gyeongbok's calm words, the man fumbled for his wallet with trembling hands.
"Th-this is everything! Really! Please, just spare me...!"
Gyeongbok took the pathetic wad of bills offered to him, but didn't let him go right away.
"What are you waiting for? Load up the carriage."
"Eh?"
The goons replied to his jerk of the jaw.
"You idiots! The booze!"
"Ah, yes!"
"Yep!"
At the leader's yell, they frantically loaded the box onto the carriage.
― Lol, that's so satisfying
― An eye for an eye, huh?
― Hammurabi response, amazing
― Bootleggers need to learn service mentality, duh
― For real, selling booze is a service job
― This is Black Company-style negotiation, lol
Gyeongbok also looted the other goons' belongings, grabbing not just their cash but also their pistols and loaded them on the carriage.
He coolly retraced his steps back.
"Outlaw missions really are a quick way to make money,"
Gyeongbok said as he checked the asset value ranking.
[1. Purple – $73.7]
[2. Damian – $16.1]
[...]
A big gap had opened up with the other participants instantly. Most viewers agreed with this strategy.
'Hmm?'
Through his divine energy, he sensed the presence of some nasty outlaws, but their threat was minimal.
As he waited, wondering what it was about—
"Halt!"
"Get off the carriage!"
Bandits with faces covered by bandannas burst out from behind a boulder.
― Eh?
― C'mon, another set of bandits already?
― The Wild West was wild, huh
― What is this, an encounter event?
― Hyung! Take them out quick!
While viewers clicked their tongues, a bandit leveled his gun.
"Just leave the booze and go. We don't want any blood, either."
The bandit scowled, but Gyeongbok stayed calm.
"How did you know it was bootleg liquor?"
Gyeongbok's composed retort made the bandits flinch. That little gap was all Gyeongbok needed.
His pistol snapped up and fired like lightning, knocking the bandits down like dominoes.
He promptly looted the bandits' corpses.
― That was so clean
― You really thought you could rob Perfect-Outlaw?
― Black Company trait: Once it's in the boss's hands, it never comes out
― Should've shot first if you wanted a chance, lol
― Nah, if it was Godple he'd just parry the bullets
― True that
― Look how fast the bounty's climbing, lol
Viewers were pleased as Gyeongbok's asset value kept climbing.
* * *
Gyeongbok quietly parked the carriage behind the saloon. The owner came out, looking a bit awkward.
"Back sooner than I expected. I guess everything went well?"
"Very well,"
Gyeongbok replied with a smile and then pressed his pistol up under the owner's jaw.
― Hyung?!
― So you don't even need missions anymore?
― Is he going to walk the real outlaw path?!
― Capitalist shockwave awakens again!
But Gyeongbok's intention was different than viewers expected. Instead of explaining, he spoke directly to the owner.
"Bandits on the way—they were your doing, weren't they?"
"What? Wh-what are you talking about? You were mugged?"
The owner's eyes darted left and right.
"Those bastards! Took my money and tried to steal the booze back...!"
The chat quickly filled with question marks.
― It wasn't an encounter event?
― What? What's going on?
― Godple says it was this guy's plot?
― Wasn't it more likely the bootleggers?
― Yeah, after all, they made threats too
Some viewers sided with the owner, but Gyeongbok was unconvinced.
"No, they threatened me on the spot. If they'd planned a robbery, they wouldn't have bothered threatening me there. Other than those guys, only you knew about the booze."
― Oh? That's true
― Yeah, if they were going to rob him, they wouldn't have bothered threatening
― That's how they knew it was bootleg liquor
― Busted right away!
― Outlaw (ex-Perfect-Detective)
The viewers quickly caught on.
"So you tried to keep the booze for yourself while shifting the blame onto a drifter like me, huh? Not pay me, maybe even demand compensation. That's probably why you asked for the carriage deposit, too. Am I wrong?"
At his questioning, the owner's jaw trembled.
"I-I think there's some misunderstanding..."
"Sure, it doesn't matter if it's a misunderstanding."
Gyeongbok shrugged and chuckled.
"Just take it as being mugged."
"W-what...?!"
"Open the safe."
Gyeongbok turned the owner around at gunpoint and helped himself to the cash inside the saloon's safe.
"I won't kill you, since I want to raise my bounty."
He explained to the viewers as he pistol-whipped the owner and knocked him out.
― Ah, lol, tHIS is true outlaw play
― Go full highwayman at the first sign of betrayal, lol
-???: Nobody can stop me, lol
― Outlaws! Do whatever you want!
― What a king of gamblers, lol
― Insane, lol, look how fast he's making money
Viewers were delighted at his decision and actions. Meanwhile, Gyeongbok untied the horse that had been hitched to the carriage.
"Got myself a horse, too. Nice."
He laughed as he left the town.
After he got far enough from the village, he checked his asset value again.
[1. Purple – $502.6]
[2. Philip – $47.3]
[...]
― Lol, look at the gap with second place, lol
― Is this why people are lured into crime?
― Ah, lol, he's making like ten times what everyone else is
― You'd need serious punishment to even consider stopping this
― Yeah, if the punishment isn't hard, crime never ends
― Watch yourself! Don't get too immersed!
After looting even the saloon's safe, his asset value had jumped past $500, leaving a huge gap with the runner-up.
"So right now, if you convert my bounty into Korean money, it'd be around 600 to 700 thousand won."
That amount wasn't just net assets, it was also the tournament prize.
"With a haul like this, I imagine some of the participants are now preparing for bounty hunting."
At these words, the viewers laughed as well.
― Anyone stream-sniping is probably thinking hard right now, lol
― For real, this is practically real cash at stake
― In reality, godple's only equipment is two pistols
― It's so early in the game, it's actually a good time to take your shot
― If you team up with people who aren't too greedy, there's a real chance, lol
Thanks to this, there was rising anticipation that the bounty hunters would soon get active in earnest.
