Chapter 248 : Perfect Revenge (3)
Perfect Revenge (3)
As the hideout of the Hired Gun was discovered, the cutscene ended. The gang member hurriedly rushed into the cave.
"I'll go after him for now."
Lee Gyeongbok and Light followed swiftly but cautiously into the cave.
"It's deeper than I thought."
― It's a bit damp
― The guy who ran away is splashing water everywhere right in front of them, lol
― There's pooled water? Is this a gimmick where you get caught if you step in it?
― But Godple's an even bigger veteran, right?
-lol, he's avoiding it all—amazing, considering how dark it is
Because Alex lost consciousness in the prologue cutscene, the interior structure hadn't been revealed.
Once they entered a certain distance, shadows flickering along the cave walls became visible.
"Alex...!"
"Shh."
There were quite a few shadows.
Lowering his stance, Lee Gyeongbok pointed toward a boulder big enough for the two to hide behind.
Light immediately understood and quietly stopped moving.
"Ah, finally you're here!"
"How long does it take to fetch some food, huh?"
"What's this? Why are you empty-handed?"
"Damn it! Don't tell me you gambled it all away in Nowhere again?"
Voices echoed in the meantime.
The gang members looked at their breathless companion in disbelief.
"Gamble? That's not the problem! Nowhere—Nowhere has completely burned down!"
"What?"
"What the hell are you talking about now?"
They looked even more bewildered at the answer.
― To be honest, I wouldn't believe him either, lol
― You pass out drunk and wake up to find the town gone?
― Lol, who could believe this
― But it actually happened
― Outlaw: Why's this happening?
Viewers burst out laughing at that conversation. Meanwhile, Lee Gyeongbok tried to gauge the enemies' numbers by sensing divine energy.
'They're all pretty similar...?'
The threat levels felt stronger than the outlaws in Nowhere, but none stood out among them.
Lee Gyeongbok soon realized why.
"I'm not lying! Why would I make this up?!"
"Well, that's true..."
"Shit, did the Federal Marshals catch on?!"
"What do we do? Should we move the hideout?"
"Damn it! Of all times, why when the boss isn't here...!"
The gang members started murmuring restlessly.
Through their lines, the viewers began to piece things together.
― Huh? No boss?
― Where did the boss bastard go?
― The main dish is missing?
― This doesn't seem to be the boss fight location?
― Too bad
― But honestly, this place is a bit lame for a boss fight anyway, lol
Suddenly, the chaotic atmosphere among the outlaws changed.
"Wait, it doesn't seem like the work of the Sheriffs. If it was them, how would I have gotten here? I would've been arrested—or executed—right away."
"... That's true."
"Then what happened? Who could burn down Nowhere?"
"Was it another gang? See anyone suspicious?"
Having ruled out the Sheriffs, they began considering other possibilities.
"There was something weird. Some guy brought an Indian into the saloon."
"An Indian?"
"An Indian in Nowhere?"
"All you say is bullshit, man."
His companions scolded him again, but soon fell silent at someone else's words.
"Wait, an Indian? Max, there was something about an Indian in that rumor you heard in Saint Cloud, right?"
"Yeah, I heard it at the train station while checking on those caught. They said the president's assassination was stopped by just an Indian and a detective."
Silence lingered after that testimony.
"No way..."
"Are that Indian and detective in Nowhere?"
"Damn, did any of the captured guys betray us?"
"That's not important right now. Did you check if you were tailed when you came here?"
The outlaw's tone became much colder. The fleeing guy stammered.
"Uh, uh... I thought I had to warn you as fast as I could. I don't think anyone followed me?"
"You don't think? 'Don't think'!?"
"You idiot!"
"What the hell is in your head?!"
"Damn it, you go back and sweep the area! Now!"
Maybe it was the criticism from his comrades.
The fleeing man hesitantly began to back away, then turned to leave.
"Alex, what do we do? Should we take him out now?"
Light quickly whispered.
The guy was heading toward the boulder where the two were hiding.
― Did they really get discovered?
― No, lol, there's just one exit!
― Get him!
― Strike first, win first—come on!
― Godple's got this!
-lol, even if Godple goes second, he'll win
The viewers agreed with Light. Lee Gyeongbok hesitated briefly before raising his hand to stop Light.
"Damn it, why such a fuss over—urk!"
The man approached, grumbling, but let out a short groan—the result of Lee Gyeongbok darting out and wrapping his arm around the man's neck from behind the rock.
"What the hell?!"
"Who are you!?"
"Damn! I knew we were tailed!"
Awakened by the groan echoing in the cave, other gang members rushed over, drawing their guns. But Lee Gyeongbok showed no fear.
He pressed the barrel of a gun to his hostage's head and asked,
"Where's your boss?"
The viewers understood Lee Gyeongbok's actions.
― This is the Black Company negotiation style, lol
― Immediate hostage
-???: Tell me honestly, and I'll let you live
-???: And what happens to me?
-???: You die!
― Lol, get the info, then kill him
― The master's foresight is next-level!
― And Light is still hidden, so she'll cover him if something goes wrong, lol
Lee Gyeongbok grimaced and heaved a short sigh.
'They don't even hesitate.'
Even with a comrade taken hostage, their threat level didn't decrease—in fact, the sense of danger became even sharper.
Sensing this, Lee Gyeongbok kicked the hostage toward the front and ducked back behind cover.
"You idiot, getting caught like that!"
"Die together!"
"Kill them!"
A beat late, the others started swearing and pulled their triggers. A torrent of bullets instantly riddled the hostage.
-????
― Not a moment's hesitation
― And yet Godple still dodged it all?
― How did he avoid that, really!
― Insane reflexes!
While the viewers marveled, light quickly drew her bow. Thwip—a flying arrow pierced an outlaw's throat.
"Damn! It's the Indian!"
"How many are there!?"
"Shit, just get to cover!"
Apparently thinking there were more opponents, the outlaws hastily fired suppressing shots and ducked for cover.
"Alex, there's more of them than I expected."
"I saw it too. They've got all sorts of guns."
Lee Gyeongbok glanced at the corpse beside him—it had been blasted by not just pistols, but a repeater and a shotgun; it was a complete mess.
"If we rush out carelessly, we'll end up the same way."
Light spoke grimly. The viewers also voiced their concern.
― Must be a lot because it's Master tier?
― Yeah, there's quite a few!
― The firepower is no joke, lol
― Still, godple wins, for sure
― With our hyung's skill, he'll handle them...but he may take a hit or two
― Wish there was more cover—it'd be tough otherwise
No one doubted his skills, but coming out unscathed seemed difficult.
Lee Gyeongbok looked around and spoke to the viewers.
"Hmm, that's not necessarily true."
Amidst the rising questions, Lee Gyeongbok turned to Light.
"Light. I noticed something back on Galleon Island—your night vision is good, isn't it? You can shoot well even in dark forests."
Though surprised by the question, light nodded.
"I see well enough. Tribes with poor eyesight didn't survive."
"Right? Then get ready."
Lee Gyeongbok smiled at her answer.
What was he asking her to prepare for?
He showed the answer through his actions.
― Huh?
― What's this?
― Oh, I can see anything!
― Lol, thought the stream cut off suddenly
― Wow, what a brilliant move!
Lee Gyeongbok stood and pulled the trigger. The bullet didn't fly at an outlaw.
Its target was a torch the outlaws had planted.
More specifically, he struck the torch stand; the broken torch tumbled to the ground.
"W-What's going on!?"
"Where are they?!"
"Damn, be careful!"
Most of the torches went out; the few left shed only a faint, dying light. Darkness fell rapidly, disorienting the outlaws.
But not Lee Gyeongbok and Light.
'Now let's create some chaos.'
Lee Gyeongbok boldly left cover and moved sideways as he fired.
Each time the muzzle flashed, a corresponding outlaw fell. Meanwhile, light fired more slowly but with cool precision.
"Jake? Shit, answer me!"
"G-Gale's dead too!"
"Just shoot! Shoot them all!"
The outlaws, shaken by their comrades' deaths, fired blindly into the darkness—random, unaimed shots.
As they wasted bullets, the last flickers of fire faded and the darkness deepened.
― Hyung! We know you're doing well, but even we can't see much!
― Something's happening—can't tell what, but it is!
― So frustrating! If only I had Perfect-Eye!
― Lol, anyway, it's always one shot, one kill!
― Can tell what's happening by seeing the outlaws' lights disappear, lol
― It's got a cool vibe, right?
― Is this the "aesthetics of concealment" or something?
― So true! It's not visible, but so fun to watch, lol
― Aren't those outlaws' torches basically their lifeforce?
― Once they're all out, it's over, lol
Viewers enjoyed watching the scene. As their numbers dwindled one by one, the outlaws' morale dropped.
"W-What is this..."
"Just...run..."
"Idiot! Run where?! It's a cliff with nowhere to go!"
"Shit, if we just keep shoo—urk!"
Even the shouting between outlaws soon died down.
Lee Gyeongbok and Light methodically picked them off in the darkness.
"Owell? F-Frank? Damn...! Somebody answer me!"
At last, only one gang member remained. He called out in a trembling voice.
But there was no answer.
― Roderi, the genre: horror (from outlaws' perspective)
― Is this actually a survival horror game?
-eh
― Yes! That's right!
― It probably feels so scary for them, lol
― Wow, our hyung's decision-making is insane!
― But honestly, a regular person couldn't pull this off without Perfect-Eye, lol
― Only Godple could do this perfect solution!
The situation was all but over. Viewers relaxed, ready to savor the victory.
But then, the last man made a desperate move.
"Better than dying like this...!"
Suddenly, he spun around and dashed toward the cliff.
― Hey!?
― Death jump option?
― Fight Godple vs bet survival in the water
― Lol, honestly, odds are better with the cliff
― That cliché's just for main characters, dude!
-lol, only a major villain would survive that
Viewers instantly understood his intentions, and Lee Gyeongbok had realized even sooner.
Before the man could take more than a few steps, a lasso wrapped around him—no coincidence.
― Suicide cut!
― Failed to escape life!
― Lol, tried to run to the afterlife and failed
― What do you get if you flip suicide?
― Live?
― Nope. It's homicide, lol
― Die at Godple's hand—gotta be that way, lol
Lee Gyeongbok grinned at the chat and bound the last gang member.
"You want to know where the boss is, right? Well, I won't tell you anything! Nothing!"
Before he could even ask, the outlaw declared his resolve, his wild eyes fixed on Light.
"I'd rather die than buddy up with a filthy Indian! Ptoo!"
He spat, but it didn't really work since he was facedown. Yet, his attitude sparked action in the chat.
― He's even nastier up close, damn
― Not even asked, spitting already, what the hell
― Now what?
― Do we let him go like in Nowhere?
― Nope! Last time, they fainted first, so it worked
― This time, godple and Lady Light both saw him so it won't work
Extracting information from the Hired Gun gang was never easy.
"Even Alan wouldn't speak easily, but it's worth trying. Where should we start cutting first?"
Light's reaction was much like the viewers': she pulled out a hatchet.
― Light Nunim is ready to start chopping, wow
― Lol, she's butchered plenty before!
-???: Slice here, slice there...
― Kings of brutality, lol
― The casual tone is the best part, lol
Lee Gyeongbok hesitated, then waved his hand.
"Let's try talking first."
Both Light and the viewers raised question marks at that. Talking, at a time like this?
"Light, could you bring over a torch?"
"Huh? Oh, sure."
Light quickly moved when Lee Gyeongbok rummaged around and made his request.
― Does he have a trump card?
― Was there anything prepared separately?
― No, lol, we all watched the stream together—what could he have prepped?
― What's this foreshadowing?
― Is it another perfect solution?
Light soon returned, illuminating the surroundings with the torch—and everyone could finally see what Lee Gyeongbok had taken out.
"Do you recognize this face?"
It was a composite sketch of Romwell, created based on Light's testimony. His identity had been revealed, yet the mystery deepened. Why show a composite sketch now?
"Actually, we're not chasing you—we're after these guys. You know Safe Shifter, right?"
"What...? What the hell...!"
The man's eyes shot wide open. Lee Gyeongbok swept his gaze over the corpses around them.
"So you didn't know? I thought maybe you drove Romwell out because he's missing. So, is he with your boss?"
-eh?
― Wait, he checked faces in the dark, while shooting?
― Eyes! Look at those eyes!
― Does he actually have night vision?!
― Wow, I didn't even think about whether Romwell was among them or not
― To be honest, no one would've thought of that, lol
The viewers marveled at his observation, and the gang member's eyes wavered.
"Shit... I knew it! Ronald, you bastard—you betrayed us!"
"Oh, so it was Ronald, not Romwell?"
As curses erupted, Lee Gyeongbok pressed his foot into the man's back and shoved the sketch at him again.
"To be honest, you're as good as dead. But if you tell me where this guy is, I'll make sure he gets what's coming to him."
Whether from pain or anger—maybe both—the man glared with bloodshot eyes. But then he laughed hollowly and spoke.
"Damn, should I thank you for being honest? Whatever. If I'm going to die, the rest might as well go down, too."
He let out a heavy sigh and spoke.
"The boss went back to Saint Cloud with that bastard."
"Saint Cloud?"
Lee Gyeongbok narrowed his eyes. Light's face grew severe.
"Don't tell me—are they going for another assassination?"
― Did they go to retry the assassination?
-5252, banking on the detective being missing!
― Is this the trope where the boss steps in after minions fail?!
Light and the viewers guessed as much. But the man's following answer was different.
"Our job was already finished. The boss just went to collect his promised reward."
"Reward?"
"Hired Gun doesn't act for free. Would you do all that with no client? The boss went to meet Lady Helen."
"Lady Helen? That's a fake name, isn't it?"
Everyone but the outlaw looked confused. Lady Helen was supposed to be a fake identity the scattered gang members used for contacting each other.
"Did you hear that from some rookie? There can't be a job without a client, right? Who do you think commissioned us?"
"So, the client used an alias to get in touch."
"Right. But I don't know who it actually is. Only the boss meets the client. Only the boss knows the truth."
Lee Gyeongbok and the viewers drew certain conclusions from his words.
― So there's a real final boss, huh, lol
― Hired Gun was just a puppet all along
― It's the evil mastermind trope, huh?
― Safe Shifter's gotta be involved in this
― Right, lol, gotta get revenge on those guys, too
― Whether it's Romwell or Ronald, guess we'll get them both
― Honestly, I wondered why it was only Hired Gun they were going after
The remnants of Hired Gun had been wiped out.
But targets for revenge still remained.
