Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Water Domain

As dawn broke over the central nexus of The Four-Fold Crucible, Squad 07 broke camp completely refreshed and at peak combat readiness. The high-purity domain produce from Rowan’s harvest had fully restored their mana pools and cleared away every lingering trace of environmental fatigue from the Fire Quadrant.

Rowan adjusted the brim of his Enchanted Straw Hat, resting the Hoe of the World-Tiller over his shoulder as he turned toward the eastern archway. "One core down. Let’s claim the Water Core next."

Before stepping off the neutral nexus, the team made quick tactical adjustments for the changing environment:

Armor Maintenance: Barney checked the structural joints and reapplied corrosion-proof resin across their weapons and plate armor to prevent salt water degradation.

Alchemical Buffs: Seraphina distributed glowing azure vials of her 95%+ purity Gills-and-Current Elixirs, designed to grant enhanced aquatic mobility, water-breathing, and pressure resistance.

Vanguard Positioning: Caelen rolled his shoulders and flexed his grip around the leather-wrapped hilt of the Edge of the First Warden, while Princess Lyra and Mirei took their positions on the flanks.

Leaving the central platform behind, Squad 07 stepped onto the water-slick basalt causeway leading East. The dry, sulfurous heat of the volcanic zone vanished instantly, replaced by a crisp, salt-laced breeze and the thundering roar of rushing tides.

The East Quadrant opened into a breathtaking, hazardous maritime expanse. Colossal cascades tumbled down towering marble cliffs into an endless, flooded labyrinth of partially submerged ancient ruins, drowned citadel archways, and treacherous whirlpools. Swirling cerulean mana hummed through the deep tide pools, and giant shadows moved swiftly beneath the mist-shrouded surface.

The cool water splashed softly around their boots as they waded onto the flooded marble walkways of the outer ruins. Deep beneath his boots, Rowan’s Gardener of Eden authority hummed in subtle resonance with the rich aquatic ecosystem, sensing rare deep-sea flora and primordial water mana waiting ahead in the depths.

"Keep your eyes on the deep channels," Caelen warned, eyes scanning the swirling currents. "The threats in this quadrant won’t stay on the surface for long."

As Squad 07 waded deeper into the submerged marble corridors of the East Quadrant, the serene beauty of the flooded ruins quickly gave way to immediate danger.

A high-pitched, echoing shriek cut through the mist as a pack of Tide-Stalker Siren Drakes (Level 12) leaped from the ruined arches above. Their iridescent azure scales shimmered as they loosed disorienting Sonic Hydro-Blasts across the water.

"Mirei, drop them!" Rowan called out, tipping his Enchanted Straw Hat as he grounded his footing against the current.

Mirei didn’t hesitate. Her arrows whistled through the spray, pinning two drakes mid-flight. As the third lunged toward the backline, Caelen stepped forward, driving the Edge of the First Warden in a sweeping upward cleave that split the beast before it could strike.

Before the water settled, the drowned plaza beneath them churned violently. A three-headed Drowned Trench Sentinel (Level 13) erupted from a deep channel, locking its jaw onto Barney and unleashing a high-velocity Pressurized Piercing Jet. The pressurized water slammed against Barney’s vanguard shield, but his human-forged plate—reinforced with corrosion-resistant resin—held firm.

"Try eroding this!" Barney grunted, bracing his boots against the slick marble floor.

Rowan immediately drove the Hoe of the World-Tiller into the submerged stone. Activating his Gardener of Eden authority, he manipulated the aquatic flora and sediment below, pulling up thick, reinforced kelp tendrils that wrapped tightly around the sentinel’s three necks. Locked in place, Princess Lyra surged in, her longsword radiating a brilliant golden aura that severed the creature’s heads in a single, fluid flash.

The double defeat stirred the deepest pool in the flooded forum. A massive, barnacle-encrusted shadow rose from the depths as a Brine-Crust Abyssal Crusher (Level 14) dragged its massive frame onto the causeway. Driving its giant, cerulean-glowing claws into the floor, it triggered a violent Maelstrom Slam, whipping the surrounding water into a powerful whirlpool designed to drag Squad 07 off their feet.

Thanks to Seraphina’s Hydro Elixirs, the squad maneuvered through the pulling tide with effortless agility. Flanking the leviathan, Caelen shattered its heavy shell with a crushing overhead blow from his greatsword, opening a massive breach for Mirei and Lyra to finish off the beast with a volley of targeted strikes.

As the massive crustacean collapsed back into the foam, Squad 07 regrouped, their coordination seamless as they pressed further into the flooded citadel toward the Water Boss.

[Floor Quadrant Boss Identified]

Name: Vael’thor, the Maelstrom Sovereign

Title: Lord of the Sunken Abyss

Level: 19 (Peak Tier 2)

Type: Beast / Primordial Leviathan Monarch

Boss Overview & Traits

Tide-Bending Domain: Passively floods the ruined forum, raising water levels to waist height. This impairs land-bound party movement while granting Vael’thor near-instantaneous aquatic dash speed.

Pressurized Hydro-Cannon: Fires high-velocity streams of compressed abyssal water that can pierce heavy vanguard barriers, erode armor defense, and destroy stone pillars in a single blast.

Maelstrom Vortex: Drives its massive, armored tail into the central channel to create a powerful, localized whirlpool that drags distant ranged attackers straight into melee range.

Abyssal Overcharge (30% HP Trigger): Siphons primordial mana directly from the Water Quadrant’s core, electrifying the flooded battlefield with crackling aqua-lightning while firing relentless, homing hydro-blades.

Squad 07 pushed through the colossal stone archway into the heart of the submerged citadel, stepping directly into the drowned grand cathedral. At the far end of the vast, ruined chamber, a colossal shadow stirred in the depths.

Vael’thor, the Maelstrom Sovereign, rose from the central abyss, its serpent-like form shrouded in glowing cerulean mana. With a deafening roar that shook the ancient marble pillars, the Level 19 Leviathan Monarch activated its Tide-Bending Domain, sending a wall of water surging through the hall until the entire floor was flooded waist-deep.

Where normal adventurers would be slowed to a crawl, Seraphina’s 95%+ purity Hydro Elixirs kicked in instantly. Blue-tinted aquatic mana enveloped Squad 07’s boots, allowing them to glide across the water-slick floor with effortless mobility.

Vael’thor flared its massive, finned crest and unhinged its jaw, unleashing a devastating Pressurized Hydro-Cannon straight down the center line.

"Frontline, brace!" Barney roared, diving into the line of fire. He planted his heavy vanguard shield into the flooded marble floor, activating his human-forged defensive wards. The hyper-pressurized water jet hit the shield like a kinetic warhead, sending a blinding spray of white foam roaring across the hall, but Barney held his ground without yielding an inch.

Before the spray could clear, the leviathan whipped its massive, barnacle-armored tail through the central channel, triggering a violent Maelstrom Vortex. A churning whirlpool formed in the middle of the arena, creating a crushing current designed to pull the backline straight into Vael’thor’s jaws.

Rowan adjusted the brim of his Enchanted Straw Hat and drove the blade of the Hoe of the World-Tiller deep into the submerged stone floor. Channeling his domain authority into the aquatic ecosystem below, he forced dense, primordial sea-kelp roots to sprout instantly from the cracks in the marble. The thick tendrils wrapped around the squad’s legs like iron anchor chains, completely counteracting the pull of the whirlpool.

"Anchor secure! Backline, open fire!" Rowan commanded.

Mirei loosed a triplet of frost arrows straight into Vael’thor’s open gills, flash-freezing its water intakes and stalling its momentum. Capitalizing on the stun, Caelen surged across the water, raising the massive hilt of the Edge of the First Warden.

With a sweeping, two-handed cleave, he shattered a broad section of the leviathan’s abyssal scale armor, opening a massive breach for Lyra to plunge her golden-aura blade directly into the beast’s exposed core.
