Gardener of Eden
Chapter 139: Ghor’lok the Pyre-Heart Monarch
Chapter 139: Chapter 139: Ghor’lok the Pyre-Heart Monarch
At the center of the fiery woodland stood an ancient, titanic Ignis-Root Cedar whose canopy towered over the entire forest, branches burning with white-hot fury. Perched high upon its thickest burning limb, a massive primate glared down at Squad 07. Its fur was woven from living ember tendrils, its broad shoulders were plated in jagged basalt, and its fists glowed like molten iron cores.
Seraphina’s scholar slate immediately flared, scanning the creature and projecting its tactical profile into the squad’s vision:
[Floor Quadrant Boss Identified]
Name: Ghor’lok, the Pyre-Heart Monarch
Title: Sovereign of the Burning Canopy
Level: 19 (Peak Tier 1)
Type: Beast / Infernal Ape Monarch
Boss Overview & Traits
Canopy Dominance: Leaps effortlessly across the burning branches of the forest, launching rapid aerial dive-bombs and hurling superheated tree roots at distant targets.
Molten Earth-Shatter: Drives its fists into the terrain to trigger directional magma geysers, destroying footholds and melting non-reinforced gear.
Thermal Ignition Roar: Beats its chest and unleashes a pressurized sonic boom of fire mana that pushes back attackers, causes auditory disorientation, and applies a stacking burn debuff.
Infernal Core Overload (30% HP Trigger): Siphons raw elemental energy directly from the ancient Ignis-Root Cedar, covering its fur in a thick layer of liquid magma armor that reflects incoming physical damage and continuously damages nearby melee combatants.
Ghor’lok let out a deafening roar that sent a shockwave of embers cascading through the branches, its burning eyes locked directly onto Rowan and the vanguard.
"Level nineteen," Caelen said, his grip tightening on the Edge of the First Warden as he took a low combat stance. "It’s using the high canopy for leverage."
"Barney, take the root line to block any dropping strikes," Rowan commanded, resting the Hoe of the World-Tiller over his shoulder while adjusting his Enchanted Straw Hat. "Mirei, force it down from that tree."
Mirei drew her string back in a rapid, fluid sequence, unleashing a flurry of frost-alloy arrows straight at Ghor’lok’s sulfurous eyes. The sub-zero shafts streaked through the superheated air, exploding against the beast’s face in blinding bursts of icy mist. Enraged by the sudden frost, the ape monarch roared, turning its full attention toward the archer and drawing massive, basalt-plated arms back to launch a devastating aerial strike.
It was precisely the window Rowan had prepared for.
Knowing from his earlier botanical check that the giant Ignis-Root Cedar acted like an unstable elemental power vault, Rowan adjusted his Enchanted Straw Hat and drove the Hoe of the World-Tiller deep into the volcanic stone. Channeling his Level 20 domain energy, he unleashed a concentrated, full-power Terra-Tilling pulse straight through the root matrix beneath the titan tree.
The ground buckled violently. Fractures of brilliant emerald and gold mana ripped through the cedar’s subterranean root structure, instantly disrupting the delicate equilibrium of its magma-infused sap. A split second later, the ancient tree violently detonated!
A blinding shockwave of compressed fire and stone erupted into the sky as the superheated timber exploded like a high-tier alchemical warhead. The sheer point-blank blast slammed directly into Ghor’lok’s chest, tearing through its rocky hide and instantly shaving off a staggering 20% of its total health.
The monarch let out a pained, shrieking roar as the explosion completely vaporized its high-perch roost, sending the massive beast crashing violently onto the basalt causeway below. Dust, embers, and shattered volcanic rock rained across the battlefield as Ghor’lok struggled back to its feet, its health bar knocked down to 80% and its canopy advantage utterly destroyed.
"It’s grounded!" Caelen shouted, stepping forward with his massive two-handed greatsword, Edge of the First Warden, resting in a low, heavy guard.
"Barney, pin its left flank before it recovers!" Princess Lyra commanded, her longsword blazing with divine golden aura as Squad 07 instantly closed in to press their advantage.
Even without its high perch, Ghor’lok’s insane agility made it a nightmare to lock down. The ape monarch bounded between the remaining Ignis-Root Cedars, using the burning trunks as dynamic cover to break line-of-sight and launch blinding, hit-and-run dive-bombs at the squad’s flanks.
"It’s using the tree line to mask its approach!" Caelen shouted, sweeping the Edge of the First Warden in a wide defensive guard as a shower of embers rained down.
"Then we take away its cover!" Rowan replied, eyes sharp beneath the brim of his Enchanted Straw Hat.
Predicting the beast’s traversal arc through the canopy, Rowan slammed the Hoe of the World-Tiller into the stone. Instead of targeting the ape directly, he sent localized shockwaves into the root networks of the trees Ghor’lok was using for leverage. Coupled with Mirei’s precise frost-arrow herding, Squad 07 deliberately funneled the monarch onto volatile trunks, detonating them in rapid succession.
Explosion after explosion rattled the western quadrant, bathing the forest in violent concussive blasts that steadily chipped away at the boss’s remaining armor until its health bar plunged past the critical 30% mark.
Ghor’lok screeched in agony as its Infernal Core Overload triggered. Its eyes turned blinding white, and its fur burst into a terrifying torrent of liquid magma. Siphoning raw fire mana directly from the quadrant’s core, the monarch swelled in size, its body encased in glowing, damage-reflecting molten armor as it drew back both fists for a squad-wiping ground smash.
"Seraphina, frost elixirs!" Rowan shouted.
Seraphina moved with practiced efficiency. Reaching into her potion harness, she hurled half a dozen of her specialized 95%+ purity Glacial Freeze Elixirs directly at the superheated beast.
The glass vials shattered in unison against Ghor’lok’s chest and waist. The instant her high-purity sub-zero alchemy made contact with the liquid magma armor, a violent thermal shock reaction detonated. A towering plume of superheated steam erupted into the sky as the molten liquid was flash-chilled into an impenetrable, jagged tomb of solid granite and blue permafrost.
The monarch’s roar was instantly cut short. Caught mid-charge, Ghor’lok was completely rooted to the spot, completely frozen from the waist down in a dense block of hardened slag and ice.
"Vanguard, take the core!" Princess Lyra commanded, her longsword radiating a brilliant golden aura as Squad 07 surged forward to deliver the final strike.
With Ghor’lok completely immobilized by the flash-frozen slag, Squad 07 moved in for the final, decisive strike.
Caelen leaped into the air, driving the full weight of his momentum into a broad, downward swing of Edge of the First Warden. At the exact same moment, Princess Lyra darted beneath the ape’s frozen guard, her longsword radiating a blinding wave of golden aura aimed directly at the monster’s exposed chest.
Both strikes landed simultaneously. The combined impact shattered the granite-ice casing and cleaved through Ghor’lok’s core. A brilliant shockwave of crimson light erupted across the cavern, and the Pyre-Heart Monarch let out one final, echoing groan before disintegrating into a cascading shower of harmless ash and cooling slag.
Where the apex beast had been trapped, a fist-sized orb pulsed with a intense, fiery light—the Fire Core, the first of four elemental keys required to conquer The Four-Fold Crucible.
Rowan stepped forward, his boots crunching through the cooled embers. Resting the Hoe of the World-Tiller against his shoulder, he adjusted his Enchanted Straw Hat and carefully retrieved the burning gem, securing it into his spatial inventory. Seraphina immediately gathered rare, superheated mineral deposits left behind in the ash, while Barney conducted a quick field check on the squad’s thermal suits and armor joints.
With their objective complete and their stamina running low, the squad turned back, retracing their path out of the burning woodland. Crossing the threshold out of the West Quadrant, the suffocating heat and ash vanished instantly as they stepped back onto the wide, neutral stone platform at the floor’s center.
Safe within the central nexus, Squad 07 set up camp for the night. Rowan accessed his domain stockpile, laying out a banquet of fresh A-grade domain apples, crisp spirit greens, and crystal-clear spring water harvested straight from his farm. The high-purity produce worked wonders on their exhaustion, rapidly restoring their mana reserves and banishing the lingering environmental fatigue.
"One core down, three to go," Barney said with a satisfied grin, leaning against his vanguard shield as he began touching up the minor scuffs on his plate armor.
"And we cleared the most volatile quadrant without draining our primary elixir stock," Seraphina noted, carefully organizing her remaining alchemical supplies.
Sitting around the warm glow of their campfire beneath the four elemental horizons, Squad 07 shared a quiet meal, recovered their strength, and began mapping out their approach for the next quadrant come morning.
