Chapter 391: Kraven Is Dead
When they finally pulled up near the hostel where the kids were supposed to be, bright red and blue emergency lights were already flashing off the nearby walls. Officers from the GPF were patrolling the block, completely surrounding the main building and locking down every entrance.
It turned out someone in the neighborhood had called the GPF right after hearing heavy gunshots ring out through the previous night on Saturday. While searching the surrounding area, officers stumbled across a bloody body lying cold on the pavement just a short distance from the hostel doors.
The officers guarding the yellow tape denied entry to everyone, forcing the crew to turn around and head straight to the hospital to confirm the identity of the corpse.
When they arrived at the morgue, their worst fears were confirmed. The body belonged to Kraven Butcher.
Not only had Kraven been shot multiple times at point-blank range, but his chest had been torn wide open and his heart ripped out, making his death completely absolute.
The only bit of good news was that the children inside the hostel were safe. Social workers had already stepped in, taking charge of the kids to clear them out of the area and locate a better home for them.
Since Bambi was registered as the only close relative Kraven had left, the staff handed over all of his personal belongings directly to her.
After completing the official identification process, they stayed behind to arrange for his body to be cremated. Everyone gathered outside in the quiet courtyard, standing around in silent heavy waiting as they anticipated the return of his ashes.
Faye walked over to where Bambi was sitting, her back resting flat against the hard exterior wall of the outside building. Bambi’s eyes were completely swollen and bloodshot from crying nonstop for hours.
Faye and Malo dropped down onto the cold ground beside her, sandwiching Bambi between the two of them.
"He was my best friend and my brother," Bambi wept, her voice trembling as her hands clutched Kraven’s cross necklace tightly against her chest. "I really can’t believe he is gone forever."
"I don’t even know what to say at a moment like this, Bambi," Faye said gently, reaching over to squeeze her cold hand. "But we are right here for you. You aren’t alone in this."
"Yeah, I’m right here too," Malo added, leaning his shoulder against hers. "I am definitely not going to abandon you."
Bambi stared down at her lap, her thumb rubbing the smooth metal of the cross. "I just don’t get it... how am I even surviving right now? I am supposed to be dead.
When she was inside the van, she checked her own body and found smooth skin where the wound should have been, looking as if nothing had ever touched her. Yet she clearly remembered the cold feeling of the metal bullet tearing straight through her chest, piercing right through her heart. By all logic, she shouldn’t be breathing.
"Faye saved your life by biting you," Malo explained quietly, keeping his voice calm.
"I still don’t get it," Bambi murmured, turning her tear-streaked face toward Faye. "Why would a bite save my life?"
"Because is a gift or maybe a curse, but it has the power to bring a dying person back," Malo said. "You actually died back there, and she unexpectedly transferred her own life force directly into you."
"Honestly, I still don’t fully understand how I pulled that off," Faye admitted softly. "But the important thing right now is that you get to start a fresh life. What do you want to do from here?"
Bambi’s gaze hardened, her tears briefly stopping as her jaw clenched tight. "What I want is to hunt down and kill every single person who murdered Kraven. I am going to avenge him."
Malo winced instantly, his eyes darting toward the floor. "Oh God, she’s already talking about killing people," he muttered under his breath, looking anywhere in the courtyard except at Bambi.
Faye completely ignored his awkward reaction, keeping her full attention on her Beta.
"Bambi, let’s take a step back and start from the beginning," Faye said, her voice steady and grounded.
"We were never on good terms before because you didn’t like us, but now you are officially one of us. You are a part of me now, and it is my responsibility to look after you. Let’s ease up on the whole revenge act for now and just leave the GPF to handle their job."
Bambi let out a bitter, wet laugh. "I am pretty sure the Gamma Police Force already knows exactly who killed him. That guy is a massive loan shark with deep roots in this town, and because he is so influential, they aren’t going to press any real charges against him. I don’t even know if those kids are actually safe right now."
She paused, anxiety spiking in her eyes as she wondered if the social workers had genuinely rescued those children, or if the loan sharks had already stepped in and dragged them away into the dark.
"We can ask someone on the inside to leak us the exact location of the kids so we can verify if they are safe," Malo said, trying to reassure her. "They are going to find a solid home. They might get split up and not stay together, but it will be a good home."
A heavy silence settled over the three of them after that. Neither Faye nor Malo tried to force any more grand speeches, choosing instead to simply stay pressed against Bambi’s sides, offering their quiet presence to help carry her through the raw edge of her grief.
A short while later, an attendant walked out and handed Bambi the small box containing Kraven’s ashes.
Malo stepped up, gently taking Bambi by the arm to lead her away to his residence so she could lie down and get some proper, uninterrupted rest after the chaotic day.
Sasha and Haley said their quiet goodbyes and headed straight back to their own homes to unpack everything that had happened.
Faye and Princess, however, had no intention of going home just yet. With Kiara’s unsettling words still hanging in the air, they decided to drive straight over to confront Silviana face-to-face.
And as expected, Kiara was still riding along with them, stubbornly refusing to leave their side or let them out of her sight.
