Chapter 237: Chapter 14: Perfect Leader, This Kid Can Cast Level 0 Witchcraft?

Trial Maze of the 9th Underground Mine.

The Battle Banner Legion’s fight took a mere five minutes, but processing the spoils took nearly ten.

There were simply too many Dark Goblin corpses.

After the logistics team took count, the total number reached a staggering 418, and that even included one Caster.

Unfortunately, as it led its kin charging out of the cave, it had no time to cast its Talent Witchcraft before a bullet thrown by Mo Ning blew its head apart, obliterating half its skull.

The Caster’s body contained more Spiritual Materials. The logistics team dismantled the corpse, harvesting over ten different types of materials in total.

There was a new recruit in the logistics team named Ah Ka who was exceptionally good at appraising Spiritual Materials.

He silently appraised the materials scattered across the ground and came up with a figure—680 Black Tower Points.

That averaged out to less than two points per corpse, but the sheer quantity made it add up to a considerable sum.

The cave instantly erupted in thunderous cheers.

Normally, it was nearly impossible for new recruits participating in the maze trial to obtain so many Spiritual Materials.

Monsters traveled in packs, so even if you killed one, there was no time to process the corpse. Other monsters were certain to drag it away for food.

Then, at Mo Ning’s command, the Battle Banner Legion formed an orderly column and marched out of the cave, their morale even higher than before.

Meanwhile, many new recruits were still lingering at the starting point.

It wasn’t that they had stayed put the entire time; they had tentatively explored a few caves, but upon discovering how powerful the monsters were, they had dutifully retreated.

Based on experience, the starting point was normally sealed by spatial forces, preventing monsters from the surrounding caves from entering. The seal was only lifted when the trial began.

Even so, monsters typically didn’t venture into the starting point, making it a relatively safe area.

But Mo Ning didn’t let his guard down in the slightest.

’Goblin Climbers have already appeared. Who knows what else might sneak over?’

According to historical records, from the two great Ancient Wizard Empires before the Era of Secret Divination to the later Era of the Floating City—a long period spanning over thirty millennia—Ancient Wizards had never ceased their biological modifications.

No one knew just how many bizarre creatures those madmen had created, or how many had spread into the vast, boundless underground world.

Therefore, he gave a direct order: "All units, form a circular array! Rest in place for ten minutes."

The crushing victory of the first battle had pushed his personal prestige to its peak.

His order was executed with the utmost speed.

Thirty Heavy Shield Hands and thirty Long Spearmen formed a circle, all facing outward, while the Crossbowmen and logistics personnel rested inside the ring.

The Black Iron Heavy Shields were designed with foldable support legs, allowing them to be set directly on the ground as a protective barrier.

The longspears were slotted into the grooves of the shields, their gleaming tips pointing outward, turning the entire formation into a porcupine.

All the High Intensity Flashlights remained on, aimed either at the ground or the rock walls, filling the cave with enough light to deter any approaching monsters.

The Battle Banner Legion’s highly vigilant posture made many of the other new recruits think they were being overly tense.

Before long, news of the spoils the legion had obtained from clearing the first cave began to spread uncontrollably.

Envious whispers were incessant among the surrounding crowd.

"I heard the Battle Banner Legion just cleared its first Goblin Tribe and got seventy-six Totem Fangs."

"My god, that many?"

"They wiped out an entire Goblin Tribe in one go. It makes sense they’d get that many fangs."

"The legion’s combat strength is insane. We should have joined when we had the chance."

"At this clearing speed, won’t they be able to get two thousand Totem Fangs this trial?"

"Earlier, Mo Ning said that this trial wasn’t about new recruits being tested, but the legion testing the monsters. I thought he was just bragging, but it looks like he’s for real."

Some of the recruits from the previous term who remained at the starting point listened to these discussions, their gazes toward the legion filled with utter shock.

They had been at the academy for over a year and had never seen such a dazzling battle record. Naturally, they were all stunned.

Mo Ning paid no mind to the envious stares around him.

He toyed with a fang, a thoughtful expression on his face.

This was the Totem Fang of the Goblin Tribe’s old chieftain. It was more exquisitely crafted and had a finer texture.

The moment he’d acquired it, the Guiding Ring had displayed a prompt: [This Chieftain’s Totem Fang is equivalent to ten ordinary Totem Fangs. The value of Chieftain Fangs from different tribes varies. Submitting a Chieftain’s Fang will result in a higher mission evaluation.]

It was an unspoken rule among all legion members that the chieftain’s fang was the Legion Commander’s exclusive spoil of war, so the item ended up in Mo Ning’s hands.

Princess Phoebe glided over, her fair, delicate hands holding a piece of Mithril. Presenting it to him, she said softly, "Mr. Mo Ning, this Mithril is too valuable. It would be best if you kept it safe."

Mo Ning didn’t refuse. He reached out and accepted the Mithril, though he felt a sense of resignation inwardly.

’Honestly, he didn’t want too much contact with her, but this clever princess always managed to find the right opportunity to get close to him.’

Adopting the posture of a subordinate, Princess Phoebe continued her report. "I have finished cataloging all the spoils from the battle and have prepared a detailed, itemized paper list."

’Mo Ning had to admit, the princess was truly competent. Her efficiency was in no way inferior to Anya’s.’

He was never stingy with praise for capable subordinates. Gazing at her flawless, pretty face, he smiled. "You’ve done an excellent job. It seems putting the logistics team in your hands was the right decision."
