The first time they met, he was lying injured in an alley, thinking he was about to die, when the little girl suddenly appeared.

She didn’t scream, nor did she even think of running away. She just held a brick in her hand, and despite her trembling arm, she never considered abandoning him.

Today, the young woman had once again stood firmly in front of him, shielding him from the assault of over a hundred people.

She had even saved his life in the process.

Jasper Shaw asked, “Chloe, did I do some monumental good deed in a past life to have been blessed with meeting you in this one?”

Chloe Sinclair, however, paused for a moment before nodding with sudden seriousness. “Maybe we knew each other in a past life. I came back in this one to repay a debt.”

As far as Chloe Sinclair was concerned, she wasn’t wrong.

‘In her past life, Jasper Shaw had been so good to her, but she had been too blind to see it.’

‘She really had come back in this life to repay him.’

The man, however, chuckled softly. “Thank you, my little lifesaver.”

Chloe Sinclair played along perfectly. “You’re welcome, Mr. Shaw.”

Finally, at Chloe Sinclair’s repeated urging, Jasper Shaw reluctantly went to the bathroom to take a shower. By the time he came out, she was already fast asleep in bed.

With his hair still dripping, Jasper Shaw glanced at Chloe Sinclair, then took his phone and stepped out into the hallway to make a call.

“Zane Jordan, make sure Timothy Sutton never gets out.”

A minute later, Jasper Shaw hung up, put his phone away, and turned to go back into the room.

In the span of that single minute, Chloe Sinclair had already shifted into a new sleeping position.

Jasper Shaw shook his head with a resigned sigh, then got onto the bed. His large frame took up only a tiny portion of the king-sized bed, and even then, half of his long legs dangled off the edge.

They slept soundly through the night.

However, while Chloe Sinclair and Jasper Shaw slept soundly, Timothy Sutton was not faring so well.

The moment he arrived at the police station, he demanded to see his lawyer.

But as it turned out, his lawyer of many years had seen the news trending online, promptly resigned, and skipped town.

Under the police’s persistent questioning, Timothy Sutton finally confessed to everything.

The officers who heard his confession were absolutely furious.

The interrogating officer slammed his hand on the table. “Are you even human? Don’t you know that shoddy construction costs lives when things go wrong? I suppose since you’re not one of the dead, you think it’s no big deal? Let me make one thing crystal clear for you: from this day on, you can forget about ever stepping foot outside of prison again!”

The shoddy construction project had drawn the ire of the higher-ups. Even if the police hadn’t stepped in, the authorities above would have certainly ensured a heavy punishment.

There was no escape for Timothy Sutton now.

Overnight, in the dead of night, the Sutton Group’s building was sealed by the authorities.

The next day, people passing by were shocked to find the main entrance to the Sutton Group completely covered in official seals.

The employees arriving for work were completely baffled.

A passerby who was in the know said bluntly, “Your company’s boss was taken away by the police yesterday. Heard he broke the law.”

“I can’t believe it was so fast. It’s only been a few hours.”

“All I can say is, good riddance. He got what he deserved for causing so many deaths!”

The employees were still reeling from the shock when, just as they were about to leave, a group of police officers arrived.

They were then brought in for questioning, adding to their confusion.

The overnight collapse of the Sutton Group caused a massive uproar on social media.

But the person having the worst time of all was Yuna Sutton.

First, she noticed that Wyatt Thorne had started ignoring her. Worse, she could see a flicker of disgust in his eyes—something that had never been there before.

She even saw him spending a lot of time with the “campus belle” from the computer science department, the two of them often talking and laughing together.

She tried to find Wyatt Thorne several times, but it was as if he was avoiding her. He was nowhere to be found.

Yuna Sutton was absolutely furious!

On her second day back at school, a male student mustered up the courage to block her path, though he seemed hesitant to speak.

Yuna Sutton assumed he was trying to ask for her number, so she rejected him without a second thought.

“Sorry, but I’m already interested in someone.”

The student shook his head. “No, that’s not it. I just wanted to ask you something.”

Yuna Sutton scoffed internally. ‘I’ve seen this trick a thousand times.’ Still, she gave a magnanimous nod. “Ask away.”

The younger student hesitated for a long time. Just as Yuna Sutton’s patience was wearing thin, he suddenly asked, “Sutton, I was just wondering… is everything being said online true?”

Yuna Sutton frowned. “What are you talking about?”

“Everyone online is saying your father, Timothy Sutton, caused a lot of deaths with a shoddy construction project. They’re calling him a murderer.”
