From Trash to Treasure: The Sinclair Family's Beloved Genius
Chapter 491 - 488: A Good Match, My Ass
Chloe was a little surprised to hear that. She glanced over and, sure enough, spotted the man in the back seat of the Bentley parked diagonally across the street.
She could only manage a helpless smile. "Excuse me, I should get going."
Nathan Trenton didn’t mind. He nodded, and after watching Chloe Sinclair get into the car, he turned and headed back into the university.
The moment she sat down in the car, Jasper Shaw looked up. "What were you and your senior talking about? You look so happy, hmm?"
Chloe froze for a second, her gaze on Jasper Shaw’s face a little dazed.
She was puzzled for a moment, then suddenly found the situation amusing.
"Are you jealous of my senior?"
Jasper Shaw hadn’t expected Chloe to figure out his little scheme. He felt a bit awkward at being caught red-handed.
And yet, he couldn’t help but feel wronged. "You probably spend more time with your senior than you do with me. What kind of boyfriend spends less time with his girlfriend than some outsider does?"
Chloe had no way to argue with that.
Ever since her rebirth, she had been determined to reach greater heights on her own to avoid repeating the hardships of her past life.
The nonstop experiments made her wish she could split herself in two just to get everything done.
The time she spent with her family, and with Jasper, was far too little.
Jasper’s words served as a wake-up call for Chloe. By the time the realization hit her, her back was soaked with sweat.
She looked at the man before her, his eyes full of grievance, and felt a pang of guilt. "My senior and I only discuss academic matters. Don’t read too much into it."
After a pause, Chloe thought about her upcoming schedule.
"Don’t worry. Owen Warren’s team is already about seventy percent done with the new leukemia drug. It should be finished this month. I’ll probably be busy for a few days after that, but then I’ll have more time."
She didn’t tell him why she would still be busy for a few days after the drug’s development was complete.
Jasper, however, wasn’t focused on that. He thought Chloe had misunderstood his intentions.
He’d only meant to play the victim a little so she would have lunch with him today, but he hadn’t expected to make her worry so much.
So he decided to just keep quiet.
’But inwardly, he felt a sliver of secret delight.’
Yesterday, afraid something might happen to Chloe, he had assigned extra people to keep an eye on her.
Before Chloe and Nathan Trenton had even come outside, his men had already reported to him on what had happened in class today.
It had nearly driven him mad with anger.
’What did they mean, Chloe and Nathan Trenton were a good match?!’
’A match, my ass!’
’He was still a month shy of thirty. How was that old?!’
"By the way, that thing I told you about yesterday... did you find anything?"
As the Bentley drove on, Chloe had a good idea of where Jasper was taking her.
"No news yet. But the matter involves confidential information, so I’ve reported it to the police for a full investigation. There should be an update soon."
Chloe was surprised to hear that the document was actually confidential.
But considering the nature of Jasper’s work, it made sense.
She was smart enough not to ask what kind of confidential information it was. Instead, she offered a reminder. "They probably didn’t expect that father of yours to be so foolish. The investigation shouldn’t be too difficult now. Even if they fail this time, after they lie low for a while, they’ll definitely try to create another opportunity for themselves."
Jasper understood immediately.
Chloe didn’t know what was in that confidential file, but as the one in charge, he knew better than anyone.
Since the other party had gone to such great lengths to get the file, they would definitely try other methods in the future.
An idea quickly formed in Jasper’s mind.
The Bentley pulled up to a well-known Sichuan restaurant, and Jasper led the way inside.
Both he and Chloe liked spicy food, so everything they ordered was quite hot.
"You have a sensitive stomach. You should eat less spicy food."
Chloe’s delicate brow furrowed as she looked at the table, which was covered in chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorns.
