Chapter 419: If You’re Being Threatened, Just Blink

She was stunned, not expecting the old man to have such a strong reaction. For a moment, she was too surprised to speak.

Only then did the old man realize he had gotten a bit too excited. Feeling slightly awkward, he slowly sat down on the sofa.

"Is your brother really coming?" the old man asked uncertainly.

Chloe Sinclair nodded. "Mhm, I’ve already arranged it with my brother. He’ll be coming to Emberfall after the New Year."

The joy on the old man’s face was impossible to hide. He nodded repeatedly, clearly overjoyed.

Chloe had come mainly to spend the New Year with the old man, so she didn’t say much about her experiments.

She handed the gift she had brought with her to the old man.

"Grandpa, I heard you enjoy tea and chess. This is a New Year’s gift I prepared for you."

Chloe’s gift wasn’t particularly expensive, but what made it special was that these items were some of the old man’s absolute favorites.

When the old man looked over, his eyes showed a hint of surprise.

"Where on earth did you get this Da Hong Pao?"

It was no wonder the old man was surprised; this particular Da Hong Pao was incredibly hard to find on the market.

Even with his numerous connections, he had a hard time finding Da Hong Pao of such exceptional quality.

What’s more, Chloe had brought a generous amount—a whole large bag.

Chloe smiled and said, "I had someone help me keep an eye out for it and only managed to buy it recently. I figured you’d enjoy it, so I brought it over. I’m happy it’s really to your liking."

The old man let out a hearty laugh. "Well now," he said cheerfully, "this is my very first New Year’s gift this year."

It wasn’t just to his liking; it swept away the last trace of loneliness in his heart.

However, Chloe was a little surprised to hear him say that.

She was taken aback for a moment, truly surprised.

"You..."

The old man, unconcerned, saw her expression and shook his head. "There aren’t many people around the old estate. That boy, Jasper, he’s dutiful, but he has no clue about social niceties. Expecting him to give a gift is practically impossible. As for Joseph Shaw..."

At the mention of that name, the old man let out a heavy, cold snort, looking as if he disdained to even say it.

"He did send me something for the New Year—some fifty-nine-yuan floral tea he bought at the supermarket. I had it thrown out at the gate."

’I wouldn’t have accepted it even if it were tea worth fifty-nine thousand a pound!’

Hearing this, Chloe didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

"From now on, whenever we have time during the holidays, Jasper and I will come back to spend them with you."

Chloe, for her part, wasn’t worried that the old man would take things too hard.

Although the old man had no one to keep him company at the estate, he had chess buddies all over the city and more than enough friends, so there was no fear of him getting lonely.

But Chloe’s earnest display of affection made the old man’s heart soften.

"I heard that you and Jasper are officially a couple now?"

The old man had always known how his grandson felt, but he was also a little worried.

After all, this grandson of his was a bit lacking in the emotional department and had a somewhat difficult personality.
