The Shaw Group employees were both terrified and amused when they saw the message from their boss.

But the man who had just tagged Jasper Shaw panicked. His hand slipped, and he accidentally kicked Jasper Shaw right out of the group chat.

Inside the Shaw Group’s internal employee group chat, everyone went wild.

[@Lawson, you absolute legend! I bow to you!]

[Legend!]

[Oof. He’s done for.]

Lawson: "..."

’I really didn’t do it on purpose.’

In the apartment, Jasper Shaw lounged on the sofa, his eyes narrowing dangerously as he stared at the red exclamation mark next to his group chat.

Chloe Sinclair came out after washing her hair and saw that Jasper Shaw had already ended his conference call and was staring intently at his phone.

Curious, she walked over and happened to see the notification that he had been kicked out of a group chat.

"Who kicked you out of a group chat?"

Chloe Sinclair was a little surprised. She couldn’t believe there was anyone in the world with that much nerve.

The corner of Jasper Shaw’s mouth twitched, but he acted as if it didn’t bother him. "Some of the guys at the company."

Chloe Sinclair raised an eyebrow. Though she didn’t know what happened, she felt a certain admiration for the man who had kicked Jasper Shaw out of the group chat.

"He’s certainly a brave one."

Chloe Sinclair was genuinely impressed.

After that little interlude, the two of them went to the underground garage to get the car and head to the old mansion.

Although they left early, the traffic was terrible, and it was already ten o’clock by the time they reached the old mansion.

Grandfather had been waiting anxiously at the door for what felt like an eternity. As soon as he saw the Bentley pull through the main gate, he hurried over, moving surprisingly fast with his cane.

You would never guess the old man was already in his eighties.

"Grandfather, please slow down."

Chloe Sinclair had just stepped out of the car when she saw Grandfather moving with such speed that her heart skipped a beat in worry.

Grandfather chuckled and hurried over to Chloe Sinclair, saying cheerfully, "I was starting to think you two weren’t coming back this year."

As he said this, a hint of loneliness crept into his eyes.

Ever since Jasper Shaw came of age, he had moved out of the old mansion to live by himself and rarely had time to visit home.

As for Joseph Shaw, that was another story entirely. Grandfather would have preferred if his troublesome son never came back at all.

He had resigned himself to another lonely New Year, but then his grandson had called that morning to say that both he and Chloe Sinclair would be coming.

Those words had kept the old man waiting in eager anticipation since five in the morning.

He had wished upon the stars and moon, and finally, they were here.

Chloe Sinclair knew her grandfather was lonely and explained, "The traffic was bad today, so we’re a little late."

Hearing Chloe Sinclair’s explanation made Grandfather even more cheerful. He didn’t mind their tardiness in the slightest.

"Not at all, not at all. All that matters is that you two came."

With that, he ushered Chloe Sinclair into the house.

He had completely forgotten his own grandson was even there.

The moment she stepped inside, the heat hit her. Feeling a little warm, Chloe Sinclair took off her coat.

Jasper Shaw entered right behind her and said, "Chloe, you chat with Grandfather for a bit. I have to go upstairs for a video conference."

Chloe Sinclair knew Jasper Shaw wanted to give them some time alone.

So, she nodded.

After Jasper Shaw had gone, Chloe Sinclair asked, "Grandfather, how has your health been lately?"

"Don’t worry, this old man is still in great shape. Nothing’s bothering me."

Chloe Sinclair saw the healthy, rosy complexion on her grandfather’s face and, seeing that he did indeed look well, finally relaxed.

"Oh, by the way, about the quantum communication technology project... my second brother was hoping to get involved, and I was wondering..."

Before Chloe Sinclair could even finish, Grandfather’s eyes lit up, and he shot to his feet in excitement. "Your brother wants to join the research?"
